Social brand awareness, social engagement, social advertising, social ROI – see the pattern?
Social is the way to go.
The power of social networks is that your clients are already there. A frequently updated Twitter account or Facebook page is a way to engage with them where they already hang out.
Promoting your business on social networks has numerous advantages – virality, cost-effectiveness and massive visibility, to name just a few.
This Infographic visualizes the reasons why social media should be a critical component in every business’ strategy.

Here are 20 Tools that curate content online. With all the information we have at our fingertips, how do we decide what is good info versus worthless drivel? Through curation.
If you use Pinterest, you're already curating content. In this post you discover other tools that allow you to curate in interesting ways.
So, are you curating content, and if so....what tools are you using? Obviously, I use Scoop.it as wells as a FireFox Addon, ScribeFire. Check it out and let me know what you think.
This is a blog post by David Meerman Scott on SocialMediaToday.com. In this post he refers to a study by HubSpot on BRB customers. It shows that the coversion rate of visitor to lead is 2.6%, which is four times higher than Twitter and seven times better than Facebook.
There's a link on the post to a free ebook from HubSpot on Learning Linkedin From the Experts: How to Build a Powerful Business Presence on Linkedin.
Are you leveraging your business at LinkedIn?
I love WordPress. I've been building WordPress websites for a long time. This is a great infographic on how popular WordPress is as a CMS (content management sytem).
The three top self hosted WordPress sites are Think Progress, TNW, and of course, Mashable. 22 of every 100 domains created in the US run WordPress.
Is your site a WordPress site? It could be. Most hosts offer a one button installation of WordPress. You could be up and running in no time at all, and in complete control of your content! Check it out.
Facebook defended its support for the CISPA, a controversial cyber security bill critics often compare to the unpopular SOPA.
If you've been concerned about the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), there is another one, Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA). In this post Joel Kaplan of Facebook explains their stance.
Check it out and let me know if you agree with Facebook on this, or not!
So many times I hear small business owners share about how overwhelming social media can be, just to keep up. John Paul shares his "Five Fingers to Social Learning." Reading his post should help you simplify things just a bit. I'm paying particular attention to the "Middle Finger - Share the Luv." How about you? What resonates?
In the early 90s I published a local, small business newspaper. I've always fancied myself as a "guerilla reporter." This is an interesting infographic I found about the decline of the media industry.
If you have a smart phone you probably consume most of your media via your phone. You watch videos, update your status, check Twitter and surf the web. It's getting harder and harder for traditional media to find you.
Check it out and let me know what you think!

In a one-minute video on YouTube, well-known life-hacker Timothy Ferriss describes how to get the shell off a hard-boiled egg without all that annoying peeling.
Want to be a YouTube star? Imagine millions of people watching your videos, which can be embedded on your blog. Imagine your videos are so cool your viewers are sharing them, making them viral.
This post by FastCompany gives you some great tips on how to create the ideal videos. They start with how long your video should be and move on to content, goals and schedules.
If incorporating video is part of your marketing plan you should read this post.
Take a closer look at the best practices of a social media engagement strategy, so you can develop an engagement plan for your brand or client.
This post offers some solid information on developing a social media strategy. One comment I often hear is "how much should I be engaging on my page?" In the Level of Engagement section there are three suggestions on frequency depending on what your goal is for your page.
Also shared are suggestions for frequency of posts and what type of content to post. So do you have a Facebook Fan page for your business yet?
Google said Tuesday it will require users to allow the company to follow their activities across e-mail, search, YouTube and other services, a radical shift in strategy.
Google is doing this in the name of providing a better experience, tailored to your interests. For instance, if you were to search for information on your favorite football team, you could find the next time you peruse YouTube you see advertising for that particular team.
What bothers me the most is Gmail. I have know for quite a while that if you send email to a gmail acccount with others CC'd on that email, Google stores all those CC'd email addresses.
I like Google products a lot, but this does make me pause for a moment. How about you? Are you using Google products, and if so, would this stop you from using their products?
Chris Brogan shares 97 tips for building a solid and valuable platform. Some ideas may resonate with you and other ideas won't, but now is the time to start focusing on your content and elevating your online visibility.
While I agree that Google+ Business pages are not as robust as Facebook. After working with my Google+ account, I can see the difference it makes in increasing visibility. I think small businesses should start learning to use Google+.
This article has some great info and tips. I hope you find it useful.
When Mark Zuckerburg coined the term “social graph” to refer to the network of relationships among Facebook users, the contest began for companies to capitalize on how we influence each other’s buying decisions.

My client, Judie Keyes sent this link to me. Laura Rubenstein, Transform Today, interviewed Judie on how Judie used LinkedIn to market her business.
Take away tip... when Judie receives an invitation to connect on LinkedIn, she checks out the profile. If the person contacting her is in San Diego, she suggests they get together in person.
The other tips is that Judie keeps in touch. She reaches out regularly through email and offers information to her connections.
How are you using LinkedIn to further your business?
You all have them. They are the friends who no longer participate in social media. For some reason they've abandoned their Facebook Profile.
You need active friends on Facebook to make it fun and to help share your message. After all, you're using Facebook to help promote your business right?
This is a great tutorial on how to remove friends from Facebook. The tutorial walks you through putting them into a list and deleting the list. However, Penny Butler shares some cool tools that help you handle the task efficiently.
Let me know if this helps.
It seems like a match made in heaven, Pinterest Video boards. Grant Crowell goes through a step by step process for preparing your videos for pinning on Pinterest using Vimeo.
Of course, I love tip #5, Curate Fresh Videos with Fresh Descriptions. #9, Create a Pinterest Specific Video Campaign is another great tip.
Feel free to share how you're using Pinterest to leverage your business.
Two new social media platforms, the very hot Pinterest, and the not quite as hot, Google+. I'm often asked about both and, while I was slow to embrace Pinterest, I have embraced it.
However, Google+ is a Google product, so anything you do is bound to help you with search engine optimization (SEO). I advise working with Google+, and it can be as easy as "plusing" a blog post you see while surfing.
In this post HubSpot give some great statistics for both platforms. They also offer a free ebook on Google+ vs. Pinterest. Check it out. I love this site!
"Untangling the Social Web" is a multi-part whitepaper from Integer that attempts to quantify the relationship between social media and busi...
Personas are a great tool for helping you craft your biz stories and connecting more effectively with your customers.
Personas are basically little stories you create about your main customer types (with lots of pics!).
This article shares 4 social networking Personas and how they interact on line. With this information you can start crafting your stories to connect with the Personas that fit best with your business.
Oh, and by the way -- which Persona are you? I'm the Professional I think :)
As the author says, "Take a few minutes to review the full whitepaper (it’s free!) Think about your customers and which of the four types suits them best. Then, take a look at your social media posts over the last few weeks. Are you speaking to your audience? If not, it’s time for a new plan."
But before you do that, also check out Carol Pearson's book "The Hero & The Outlaw" (http://www.amazon.com/The-Hero-Outlaw-Extraordinary-Archetypes/dp/0071364153/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331399222&sr=1-5) which is all about how to identify and use specific archetypes of your customers and how to shape your marketing content and stories towards them.

On March 30th Facebook is giving our pages the same design as our new personal profile timeline. There are some pros and some cons when it comes to the new timeline.
This is a great overview of the new timeline and its components from TechCrunch. You can easily preview your page's new timeline before deciding to publish it immediately, or wait until the mandatory change.
The cover (the large banner at the top of your profile) has a few rules that come with it. It would seem like the perfect place for a call to action, or a website address, wouldn't it. That would be in violation of their terms of use though. There are a few other restrictions too.
Many of us have custom pages for our Facebook business page. We've set one of those custom pages as our default, meaning anyone landing on our Facebook page and is not a current fan will see the custom page.
You can still create custom pages, you just can't set them as the default page. This means it will be harder for your page visitors to find your custom pages.
One of the nicest features is the addition of Messages, allowing your visitor to send you a private message.
There are other new features, so check out the full article at TechCrunch.
For those of you who are my subscribers, I'll be holding a free webinar to answer your questions about the new Facebook timeline. Details are at the Cutting Edge Cafe. (http://cuttingedgecafe.com)
Managing your online reputation is more essential than it has been in the past. With so much social media, blogging and other online activity, keeping track of what's being said about you is imperetive.
Of course, leveraging current communication channels is the tip I resonate with. Check the three tips out and let me know what you think, agree or disagree? Is your online reputation important enough to monitor?
A look at being uncomfortable in our shares once in a while. Don't be afraid to, as Seth Godin said, "Poke The Box."
If you haven't heard by now your Facebook timeline IS going to change within a week or two. Almost everyone I've asked is upset about the change. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it.
Some things to be aware of will be the increased number of status updates in all caps demanding to know how to go back to the previous timeline. Not going to happen.
Also be aware of the potential scams that will pop up with links for you to click, which will likely take you to sites with malware ready for your computer. Don't click the links! The timeline is here to stay.
The new timeline will make it easier for your friends to find your status updates, photos and shares from years ago. No more scrolling, reloading and scrolling more to find what happened in 2008. With one click you'll see it. Now is the time to clean up your profiles, getting rid of pics and other content you may not want easily accessed.
On Monday, January 30th at 5pm PT I'll be sharing the new Facebook timeline and answering your questions. Register here for details: http://bit.ly/q5ZoYo
Here's a post about Pinterest. I've just started using it and find it's a different type of curation. Check it out.
Here are some reasons why you'd want to look at an online book launch and partnering with others to take you to the top on Amazon. Lynn shares the benefits of such a joint venture.
Amy Porterfield walks you through three strategies to creating more compelling and engaging content at Facebook. In this post she shares that unless we engage successfully our message will fade in Facebook's News Feed.
I like that she took her readers through a step by step process of using Facebook ads to promote blog posts.
