Why we need badges in science

Why we need badges in science | ePick & Mix | Scoop.it
In the world of research, as with most vocational settings, there’s a lot that gets done that goes unrecognized. That unrecognized work can not only be crucial for getting to the actual research outcome put forward in the form of publications, but also for reflecting important skills gained.
Yet, outside of the traditional means of credit—such as degrees, publications, role titles—there is no real way of recognizing this skill with the same issuing authority as with which one receives a degree o

The Best Language Learning Apps For 2015 - Te@chThought

The Best Language Learning Apps For 2015 - Te@chThought | ePick & Mix | Scoop.it

 - TeachThoughtSkills like vocabulary and foreign language speaking are right in the sweet spot of what unattended and automated–often considered the very worst kind–can do.

But it needn’t be that way. Handing a student a tablet as they practice basic skills with an app–especially one with adaptive design–is a perfectly legitimate use of edtech as far as we’re concerned, and language learning is very much a part of that.

So with that in mind are ten of the best language learning apps for 2015, updated to include those with social dynamics, like HelloTalk, recent entries like Rosetta Stone, and stalwart Duolingo. We’ve also made an effort to include multiple languages, including Mandarin, French, Spanish, and English.

Dorothy Retha Cook's curator insight, February 9, 11:19 AM

It truly is a blessing to be alive! I am not a teacher /home school administrator anymore but a parent having to re learn things I once knew but in new ways. Thanks for all the shared informative education information it truly has and is a blessing, may God bless each and every one of you individually then collectively together for this great thing you have done for one of His least little ones me . I ask your prayers that I will be restored so I can teach my children in the manner that need be as special needs students sense my state of North Carolina Public Schools are depriving them of their human right to attend public school and they are receiving no education at all for several years now for 1 of them.  Again thank you

How to install iOS 8.1 on your iPhone and iPad — Even if you're low on storage! | ePick & Mix | Scoop.it
iOS 8.1 will run on iPhone 4s and newer, iPad 2 and newer, and iPod touch 5. If you have enough available storage space on your device, you can install it using Software Update. If you're already running iOS 8, storage shouldn't be a problem. If you're still on iOS 7, you'll have to pay closer attention and may need to update using iTunes instead.

Pam Anderson's curator insight, October 21, 2014 11:04 AM

I know that storage runs low as we use our iPads and iPhones more and more as cameras and download more and more apps.  Now maybe I don't have to spend time deciding which apps and pictures to delete just so I can upgrade to the latest iOS. Just hook up to iTunes on your computer.  It's so simple I forgot I could do it!
