Anatomy of Learning : This is how We Learn

Learning is one of those topics that the more you learn about it the more you want to learn. As teachers and educators we all have  at least some basic knowledge of some of the  foundational theories on Learning including Behaviourism, constructivism, constructivism, and the list of isms goes on and on. What is of particular interest to us is to explore how students learn and what strategies they use to learn. Knowing about such theories help us take informed decisions as to what can be done to meet the different learning styles of our students.

How Google Builds Its Maps—and What It Means for the Future of Everything

How Google Builds Its Maps—and What It Means for the Future of Everything | A little bit of everything... | Scoop.it
An exclusive look inside Ground Truth, the secretive program to build the world's best accurate maps.

Behind every Google Map, there is a much more complex map that's the key to queries but hidden from view. The deep map contains the logic of places: their no-left-turns and freeway on-ramps, speed limits and traffic conditions. This is the data that Google uses to navigate you from point A to point B.

Last week, Google showed me the internal map and demonstrated how it was built- the first time the company has let anyone see how the project it calls GT, or "Ground Truth," actually works.

Google opened up at a key moment in its evolution. The company began as an online search company, but then the mobile world exploded. Now, where you're searching from has become almost as important as what you're searching for. Google responded by creating an operating system, brand, and ecosystem that has become the only significant rival to Apple's iOS.

And for good reason. If Google's mission is to organize all the world's information, the most important challenge -- far larger than indexing the web -- is to take the world's physical information and make it accessible and useful...

Read the entire article for a fascinating look at how Google utilizes mapping systems, geo data, mobile technology, and visual representation to manage massive amounts of data from varying sources, including one of the most important to the success of Google Maps- human intelligence.

A lot of people miss this because they're too busy serving the needs of others.  Love and take good care of yourself.  You'll feel good about yourself and will be more available to give love and serve others.  You will be at your best for the people you love and value the most --- and will be healthy and happy as well.

Competencias digitales del alumnado en entornos tecnológicos

Competencias digitales del alumnado en entornos tecnológicos | A little bit of everything... | Scoop.it

Open Data Emerges as a Global Movement

Open Data Emerges as a Global Movement | A little bit of everything... | Scoop.it

“Open data” — the philosophy and practice of making the data collected by government agencies freely available to the public — is critical to increasing citizens’ engagement with their governments. Since 2010, hundreds of nations, regions, and cities across the world have launched their own open data initiatives.

For example, datacatalogs.org maintains centralized lists of local, regional, and national data catalogs. Europe is heavily represented: nearly every country publishes open data, geospatial files and maps and statistics. Within each nation, local councils, regional governments, and autonomous regions are publishing their own locally-relevant open data. Spain, Italy, and France each boast over a dozen internal data catalogs created by local agencies...

Whether or not open data portals eventually lead to open, transparent, and accountable democratic governments is still up for debate, but they remain indispensable to the citizens, researchers, and journalists using data from these sites.

Read the complete post for a better understanding of open data in a concise, yet informative article with numerous links and specific initiatives referenced for further research...
