Personal branding oftewel welke uitstraling qua kennis, deskundigheid en ervaring wil je naar buiten stralen / profileren? Niet echt een issue dat tot nu heel erg populair was onder informatieprofessionals, maar nu zoveel bibliotheken op de rand van sluiting/opheffing staan, misschien toch eens over nadenken of daar niet meer een op de toekomstgericht tintje aan gegeven kan worden. Wensen van gebruikers van openbare bibliotheken in de VS tonen oa aan dat hoewel de vraag naar bijv. eBooks stijgt men niet bereid is om daarvoor de gedrukte versie op te geven. Veel van de wensen komen bekend voor en zullen ook voor de Nederlandse situatie gelden, maar waar ze ook in de VS mee worstelen is het dilemma voor welke zaken moet de realisatie van de wensen dan plaatsmaken? Cicero was suggesting a garden in the library, where he could spend his time in a natural setting, reading, writing, and conversing with his colleagues. This ancient idea can also apply to contemporary thinking about libraries and their landscapes. How do we thoughtfully place a library in the landscape? And how can we create outdoor spaces that work in concert with the library interior?
When a new public library is planned, it is not only the design that must be considered. The placement of the building in its setting (its landscape) and the design of the landscape together with the building are fundamental parts of the planning process. Unfortunately, architectural endeavors sometimes focus almost exclusively on the building itself. How the building might relate to its setting is often an afterthought. As a result, important opportunities to enhance both the building and its site are overlooked. Via Karen du Toit

Automatische filters hebben als nadeel dat bepaalde content vaak niet gevonden wordt, maar een rgoede edacteur of curator kan dit fixen. Met het huidige niveau van zoekalgoritmes kunnen we ons niet zelfstandig voeden met alle content die we nodig hebben. That is, the things that I consider important to my privacy, someone else might not care about. As librarians we usually key in on Confidentiality Threats. We want our patrons records safe. We also don't share that information with ANYONE else. In general, we are fierce about protecting our patrons’ privacy. This is something that has always set us apart from everyone else. Amazon won't do it. Google won't do it. Do I even need to say Facebook won't do it? People who come into the library or use our web sites don't worry about what's going to happen with their information (or at least they shouldn't need worry about it).
