"QR Codes ("Quick Reference" Codes) are essentially 2-dimensional barcodes. They can contain hundreds of times more data than conventional 1-dimensional barcodes. Initially created for use in the shipping industry, they are gaining popularity for marketing to people with smart-phones." Personal Branding for Librarians | American Libraries Magazine

Personal Branding for Librarians | American Libraries Magazine | De Informatieprofessional | Scoop.it

American Libraries Magazine, the magazine of the American Library Association, delivers news and information about the library community.

Placements & Salaries 2013: The Emerging Databrarian - Library Journal

Placements & Salaries 2013: The Emerging Databrarian - Library Journal | De Informatieprofessional | Scoop.it

"The real achievements for the 2012 library and information science graduating class came in the form of emerging jobs and new responsibilities, according to the approximately 1,900 graduates who responded to LJ’s annual Placements & Salaries survey, representing 30.7 percent of the 2012 graduates from the 41 participating programs.

Several new job titles appeared among the survey responses, including emerging technologies librarian, e-learning and distance learning librarian, and e-lending librarian. Social media manager and project manager were also among the popular job titles, and individuals who found positions in academic institutions were as likely to be instructional designers and user experience designers as they were to be reference librarians."

Annemarijs's insight:

"As Zombie Fighters we can't be afraid to have honest conversations with our colleagues who are stuck.  Like my friend and colleague Jennifer Northrup said in a recent post on her blog, there's no need to be confrontational or to go on the attack.  However, we can't be passive either and hope that Zombie Librarians will simply be inspired by our stellar examples."

Annemarijs's insight:

Practical Tips For Online Privacy | LISNews - from a librarian's perspective

Blake:

"Staying Safe Online" that will cover a million and one tips on how to keep you and your computer safe.

Privacy is a relative term. That is, the things that I consider important to my privacy, someone else might not care about. As librarians we usually key in on Confidentiality Threats. We want our patrons records safe. We also don't share that information with ANYONE else. In general, we are fierce about protecting our patrons’ privacy. This is something that has always set us apart from everyone else. Amazon won't do it. Google won't do it. Do I even need to say Facebook won't do it? People who come into the library or use our web sites don't worry about what's going to happen with their information (or at least they shouldn't need worry about it). They should know we are doing our best to guard their privacy. Keeping all our IT resources secure should be a large part of guarding that privacy."
