WASHINGTON — CVS Caremark , the nation’s second-largest drugstore chain, plans to stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products at its more than 7,600 retail stores by Oct. 1, a landmark decision that would make it the first national pharmacy company to cease tobacco sales.

C&W: Full Recovery Finally Here

A number of economic indicators have risen to their highest level since 2007 over the past couple weeks, indicating that the U.S. economy has shifted from recovery into the early stages of an expansion, according to Cushman & Wakefield.


For the first time in more than 6 years, employment is at a record high. Unemployment trends continue to trend lower, and the number of job openings jumped 6.9 percent in April to the highest level since 2007.

Day of reckoning looms for billions in D.C. area commercial real estate loans

The strength of the D.C. area's commercial real estate recovery, and the economy as a whole, will get an informal stress test over the next two years. The value of commercial real estate loans coming due is going to surge starting in 2016, The Washington Post reports, citing data from real estate services firm JLL.

Bolstered by continued demand for large, core properties, the value-weighted U.S. Composite Index advanced by 2% in April 2014, while the equal-weighted U.S. Composite Index, which is more heavily influenced by smaller, second-tier properties, declined by 0.8% for the same month, according to this month's Commercial Repeat Sale Indices (CCRSI) from CoStar.

Three Point Jump for Architecture Billings Index

On the heels of consecutive months of decreasing demand for design services, the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) has returned to positive territory.


As an economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate nine to twelve month lead time between architecture billings and construction spending.
