This infographic shares the expected business skills in 2020. Actually, most of these have a general education foundation and are not so different from those expected in 2000 or 2010, in my opinion. Any surprises?

Keeping employees, and getting their best performance, is consequently a function of understanding and approaching workers in concert with their psychological functioning. It requires an acceptance of what people need and derive from work. This framework of what people need and how they function is the six principles for the people side of business.

When employers pay attention to the needs of their employees, help them find the right fit in the company, and care about work/life balance they create an atmosphere where people not only feel connected, they take ownership of their work and the company mission. When employees want to stay, they are more likely to creatively solve problems, build the company, and participate in teams. They need less supervision and operate more autonomously. And, satisfied workers who stay save the incredible cost of new hires and their associated training needs and learning curve.

Attending to the people side of business is not just a nice thing to do for your employees; it is what creates the dynamism and performance of a successful company. The survey confirms it

Looks like great a great classroom tool...and great for TPEP.

Rosemary Tyrrell, Ed.D.'s curator insight, August 26, 2014 7:33 PM

The free version only allows public mindmaps/brainstorms, so if you are in a school setting and don't want student work to be shared, this might not be the right tool. The professional version that allows you to make the maps private is a steep $49 a month.

Mark Sheppard's curator insight, September 3, 2014 12:28 PM

may serve as a useful too when teams/experts are distributed.  Also beats using stickies to map out ideas.

La révolution du « CO » !

La révolution du « CO » ! | davide dalla valle | Scoop.it

Detecting Communities Based on Network Topology

Detecting Communities Based on Network Topology | davide dalla valle | Scoop.it

Network methods have had profound influence in many domains and disciplines in the past decade. Community structure is a very important property of complex networks, but the accurate definition of a community remains an open problem. Here we defined community based on three properties, and then propose a simple and novel framework to detect communities based on network topology. We analyzed 16 different types of networks, and compared our partitions with Infomap, LPA, Fastgreedy and Walktrap, which are popular algorithms for community detection. Most of the partitions generated using our approach compare favorably to those generated by these other algorithms. Furthermore, we define overlapping nodes that combine community structure with shortest paths. We also analyzed the E. Coli. transcriptional regulatory network in detail, and identified modules with strong functional coherence.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, July 26, 2014 6:54 PM

Community is a more complex and organic organizing than teams. Teams are inherently hierarchical with predetermined goals. Communities are fluid and the goals are continuously being negotiated. Schools and classrooms are better served to be thought of as communities with overlapping qualities and permeable boundaries with other communities.

Eli Levine's curator insight, July 29, 2014 6:42 PM
