Who knows, it might even drive some sense into an unreasonable client and make him/her change his/her attitude? Wishful thinking, we guess. Enough talk, check them out below....

The Psychology of Web Design #websitedesign

The Psychology of Web Design #websitedesign | Data Visualization & Open data | Scoop.it
“ reat website design is so much more than just delivering content and making it look good. When visitors come to your site, they produce a set of feelings about your website and your organization. The type of feelings they produce – positive or negative – are entirely in your hands and should not be overlooked when designing content.Over the years, there has been a body of knowledge produced to help designers create effective visuals that play into the psychology of their viewers. In order to achieve this, one must understand how different design elements and how we use them affect the mood, attitude and experience the visitor will have while browsing our website.Below are four major areas of website design and development that have the biggest impacts on the psychology of website visitors. These are the tools you’ll need to create a visually-engaging site that encourages visitors to return.”

HyperCities ~ New Learning Times

HyperCities ~ New Learning Times | Data Visualization & Open data | Scoop.it
by Carmen James "HyperCities is a dynamic educational project at the intersection of cartography and information visualization, humanities and technology, geography and digital space. The project has produced grounded cultural narratives in 27 international cities. HyperCities uses Google Maps and Google Earth (among other technologies, like GPS-enabled cameras and cell phones) to allow users to explore historical layers of city spaces. Accessing the cities and exploring them is straightforward. Once a city has been selected, users can select the time period or the area of the city they are looking to explore on the map. Within each frame, users can access everything from scholarly content to community-generated content. Users can also click on historic sites to learn more about them and overlay older maps of the same cities."

Turn Data Into Knowledge

Turn Data Into Knowledge | Data Visualization & Open data | Scoop.it
“ Every day we face challenges – from the personal, such as the quickest way to get to work, or what we should eat, to global ones like climate change and how to sustainably feed and educate seven billion people on this planet, writes Rufus Pollock, Founder, Open Knowledge At Open Knowledge we believe that opening up data – and turning that data into insight – can be crucial to addressing these challenges, and building a society in which is everyone – not just the few – are empowered with the knowledge they need to understand and effect change.”

Fàtima Galan's curator insight, October 8, 2014 8:11 AM

"Data is everywhere and we commonly talk of ‘digital economies’ now, of a ‘networked society’. But making sense of data – turning it into knowledge if you like – and then using it wisely, is still one of the greatest challenges we face as a global and increasingly interlinked society.

...

Reuse and redistribution: the data must be provided under terms that permit reuse and redistribution including the intermixing with other datasets. The data must be machine-readable.

...

Personal data should never be ‘open’ and freely accessible to everyone. Rather, we strongly believe that each of us should control our personal data – both to have access to it and to know (and decide) how it is used.

...

With digital technology – from mobiles to the Internet – increasingly everywhere, we are seeing a data revolution. We are living this revolution both in the amount of data available and in our ability to use, and share, that data. And it is changing everything we do – from how we travel home from work to how scientists do research, to how governments set policy.
