We use this feature of SharePoint on a regular basis to provide BI and reporting.  This is one of those features few people know about.  Data can be collected in SharePoint lists, exported to Excel, data connections are created automatically, and refreshing of the data is done through "refresh all".  This creates a 360 degree relationship between the source data, analysis, and display of the same information back into SharePoint.  Keep an eye on your server memory as low memory will cause loading issues.
