The Content Grid v2 [Infographic] | Eloqua Blog | Education Tech & Tools | Scoop.it

"The Content Grid v2 picks up where its predecessor left off. Intact is the prescriptive connection between content type and distribution channel. New is the perspective of the buyer, a multi-stage purchase funnel, and a comprehensive collection of KPIs (like they say, “What isn’t measured, isn’t purchased.”). Although v2 contains significantly more information than the original, the new design is infinitely more simple. This achievement is a tribute to the unrivaled design team at JESS3 – and the clarity of client/agency communication that comes only with time and trust." -- from the Source.

The World Beyond the Word ~ Stephen's Web

The World Beyond the Word
August 19, 2012
Keynote presentation delivered by Stephen Downes to Destination: Innovation, Banff, Alberta.

In order to manage the deluge of data produced by modern technology, a rapidly changing society, and challenging environmental and economic systems, we need to relearn what we understand as social and scientific literacy. The students of today and the innovators of tomorrow will speak languages we barely recognize today. What are the fundamentals of these new literacies, how do we learn them and teach them, and how do they redefine innovation in the future? In this talk Stephen Downes describes a future in which learning is a creative act and the environments and technologies that will be needed to support this learning.

The Horizon Report – a Must Read and Resource for Emerging Use of Technology in Education (NMC)

The Horizon Report – a Must Read and Resource for Emerging Use of Technology in Education (NMC) | Education Tech & Tools | Scoop.it

“The NMC’s Horizon Project may very well be producing the single most important body of research into emerging technology within the world of education. With over one million downloads of its 26 editions and 35 translations in the past ten years, the NMC Horizon Report series provides the higher education, K-12, and museum communities across the globe a key strategic technology planning tool that is continuously refreshed and updated. The NMC and the Horizon Project are best known for its flagship Horizon Reports that focus on higher education and K12 globally, but the research into the uptake of technology goes far beyond what is published in those key publications. The NMC does extensive work regionally around the world as well, working with ministries of education and other key groups to produce specialized reports for Latin America, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, and is currently working on projects in Singapore amd Brazil, and planning projects for both India and Africa. The Horizon research is truly global in scope and reach." - from Source

Learning with social technologies: Workplace learner experiences of wiki and blog and perceptions of PLE

Abstract.

As social technology use is increasing in e-learning, so is the need to complement theoretical work with studies of learner experiences of the new dynamics of e-learning to guide this development. We studied how 15 learners experienced social media tools in a long continuous professional development (CPD) pilot training tailored for a large insurance company. While the training included some contact lectures, it was mainly conducted through blog, wiki, chat, and discussion forum tools. As we have already discussed forum and chat use in another paper on a shorter CPD training (with 40 learners) and this study confirmed the results, we focus here on learner experiences of wiki and blog.
While the wiki process was widely misunderstood, wiki and blog experiences organically led learners to consider their uses as a personal learning environment.

As to blog, the learners who saw it as a tool for self-reflection perceived it positively while others did not, underlining that the benefits and goals of using social tools need to be explicated. Furthermore, social learning process needs to be designed and maintained, as busy workplace learners tend to focus on fulfilling requirements. Simply adding social technology does not necessarily lead to social e-learning.

"Once I have found a research output that interests me, I import it, and its bibliographic information, into my reference manager of choice, Zotero. I have tried nearly every reference manager over the last few years including Endnote, Mendeley, Sente and Papers 2, but for me none of them come close to Zotero. Zotero is a freely available tool that comes as either a plugin for Firefox, or in a standalone version." - Source

Curate Educational Content Discovery and Collection with instaGrok Search

Robin Good: Instagrok is a web-based app that makes it easy to find relevant information on a specific topic, and to collect the bits that are of most value to you.

Instagrok presents itself with a search interface in which the results are represented as a dynamic mindmap whose nodes can be explored by simply clicking on them.

In addition, on the right side of the screen Instagrok provides an aggregated selection of:

a) key facts

b) educational web sites articles on the topic

c) video clips

d) images

e) quizzes

f) glossaries

Any information item in these sections can be easily collected and stored inside your personal Journal, an automatic bibliography-builder which captures any and all of your peferred items.

Key facts, web site content, glossaries, images and video sections offer lots of useful materials instantly, while I am a bit more skeptical about the value and effectiveness of quizzes.

Though the interface leaves lots to be desired and has a typical "academic" feel, the content and results that were offered me in my tests were quite good and the use of pins to build an annotated journal of resource son a topic seems to me to be very effective.

Free to use.
