Vote now for the 2015 Feminist Celebrity of the Year

Vote now for the 2015 Feminist Celebrity of the Year | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it
The Ms. Foundation for Women celebrates all feminists all year long. Women and men who believe in social, economic and political equality are working every day to change the conversation and build a more equal society for ALL genders. Their work makes all the difference.
In 2014 we teamed up with Cosmopolitan.com for our first EVER Feminist Celebrity of the Year survey. You voted and we recognized those who used their impact, influence and notoriety to promote true equality.  These celebrities not only publicly identified as feminists but worked to change the national and international dialogue around diversity, inclusiveness and intersectionality.
Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

Surprise, some men are on the list.

If you must know, I voted for Margaret Cho.

Movember Is More About Protecting Masculinity Than Protecting Men

Movember Is More About Protecting Masculinity Than Protecting Men | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it
Remember, remember, the scourge of Movember? We’re halfway through the advocacy month that calls for men to grow the manliest mustaches they can muster to
Deanna Dahlsad's insight:

"As November babies and gender critics, we take Movember as a personal affront.

There’s a school of thought that says any act in service of a good cause is a good act. So why do we hate Movember? Are we grumpy contrarians and feminist killjoys who hate things precisely because other people love them? Probably, but there are deeper reasons for our Movember naysaying, too. Below, we investigate in conversation."

I like how it says that it becomes epidemic of children being without their dad. But also, it is really upsetting that there are no real man in their community. Also, there are no work and nothing to do. Because of that women have to do everything. This is another example of gender differences and where women have to do everything in order to survive.

NakedTruth.ca: What is a SWERF?

NakedTruth.ca: What is a SWERF? | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it
SWERF stands for Sex Worker Exclusionary Radical Feminist.

You know her. She calls herself a feminist and her life work revolves around eliminating sex work jobs.

She thinks men should all be ashamed for being men (naturally visual beings).

The name explains itself, but it is interesting to note that the SWERF mentality IS slowly dying like causes steeped in hatred usually do.

How To Identify If You Are a SWERF

Perhaps you are wondering if YOU are a SWERF. Perhaps you hang around with people in the rescue industry, or you have a good friend who has been saying a lot of things about "prostituted women" lately.

Perhaps you have been CALLED a SWERF and you're wondering

I may be a SWERF because I do still think there is something wrong with people selling themselves to provide sex. I'm not a radical feminist but I do think our culture is still very much male dominated. You can see it very clearly when you look at the type of humour on TV. Not much of it seems that funny to me. But, I'm not a guy. Anyway, if sex weren't for sale would men ask for it in more accepted ways or would they choose to become aggressive and take sex instead? That would be up to the type of man they are and the culture they grow up in.

Prostitution Law and the Death of Whores

Prostitution Law and the Death of Whores | Dare To Be A Feminist | Scoop.it

Twenty years ago I first asked two questions that continue to unsettle me today. The first is answerable: What does a woman who sells sex accomplish that leads to her being treated as fallen, beyond the pale, incapable of speaking for herself, discountable if she does speak, invisible as a member of society? The answer is she carries a stigma. The second question is a corollary: Why do most public conversations focus on laws and regulations aimed at controlling these stigmatized women rather than recognizing their agency? To that the answer is not so straightforward.
