How the industry kept scientists from asking: Does sugar kill?
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Do you believe everything food manufacturers, grocery store manufacturers, big food brand corporations tell you, advertise, and market to you and your family about sugar and other fake foods?  Let's hope not. Marketing like this is called deceitful manipulation.

Health tips: Do your own due diligence, read labels, become proactive and avoid or reduce your consumption of this "sweet poison". Eat fruit, use healthier alternatives in small amounts like organic dates, figs, coconut sugar, and grade B maple syrup, Use cinnamon,  vanilla bean, coconut butter, and carob for sweetness.

How Much Sugar Starbucks Actually Pours Into Your Drink

How Much Sugar Starbucks Actually Pours Into Your Drink | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Discover the shocking amount of sugar in your favorite Starbucks beverage--by best-selling author of 60 SECONDS TO SLIM and WEEKEND WONDER DETOX, Dr. Michelle Schoffro Cook, PhD, DNM.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

You know sugar isn't a healthy food and neither are its fake replacements. You know that sugar shows up in many foods in sneaky hidden ways. Therefore it's a no-brainer to realize that your  favorite coffee/tea place also adds huge amounts of sugar to its beverages. How huge? Read the article, you might want to make your own caffeinated beverage or better yet drink healthy filtered water with lemon or slices of frozen fruit. Your choice of course. It's your health. Be wise and save your money. Sugar feeds cancer and causes inflammation in your body which leads to chronic diseases, colds and sickness.

Health Tip:  A 6 ounce cup of coffee is okay without added enhancers like sugar or Nutrasweet. If you want a coffee with added ingredients, make your own with  organic  cinnamon, light coconut milk, liquid stevia or other real food spices. Another alternative is to get your caffeine fix from real dark organic chocolate/raw cacao. A few pieces a day are just the ticket. Make a green or fruit smoothie with no sugar and add raw organic cacao and/or raw carob. Now that's a delicious healthy beverage that will help your body, not harm it.

Added sugar lurks in your soy milk, frozen pizza and more!
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar, sweet poison is everywhere; hiding in everyday common foods you might be consuming.  Unfortunately, if you're eating any processed foods, whether organic or not, sugar and its fake varieties are bound to be included in the list of ingredients. Your best bet is to cook for yourself,  buy organic and read  labels, or avoid all processed foods.

Health Tip:  Today there is an abundance of healthy recipes available for even the most rushed person who's never cooked anything in their life before. For desserts organic, fruits are your best option for sweeteners. Also use herbs and spices to give flavor such as cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Combine organic dates, and hemp seeds in a food processor or by hand for an easy healthy raw dessert which can be eaten anytime of the day. For lunch meals, use lentils, beans, peas, some veggies, whole ancient grain of your choice, a salad, and some fruit. For breakfasts, think healthy green smoothies, oatmeal with fruit, and nuts, or for on the go eat an avocado. Dinner can be a healthy salad laced with nuts, nutritional yeast,  or peas for added protein,  or a soup and a green wrap sandwich such as collard greens filled with your favorite filling. These are just suggestions. The possibilities are endless. Remember, if you're just starting to cook your own meals, be adventuresome and try new foods and new ingredients.  You'll never know how good food can taste, if you never cook it yourself.

Research Reveals How Sugar Causes Cancer

Research Reveals How Sugar Causes Cancer | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
If you use sugar then this article is a MUST read! New research reveals how sugar causes cancer. Please help us to share this news as you will not see it on TV - please share and like this post.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar, the sweet poison is nutritionally deficient lacking any semblance of important nutrients your body needs. It is a well known fact that sugar feeds cancer.

Health Tip: Eat regular meals throughout the day and include as many veggies as possible. When you start craving sweets, eat a piece of fruit with some protein. An organic apple with peanut butter or a banana dipped in almond butter and cinnamon are healthier choices. Check to make sure you aren't deficient in important key minerals (magnesium, chromium, zinc, and vanadium). These minerals are involved with glucose metabolism and insulin production and can cause cravings. Sleep is critical too - get 7-9 hours/night.  And please do not use any artificial industry created sweeteners which cause more harmful effects to your body.  Rely on  a few pieces of fruit instead. Want to make a sweet dessert? Think  baked apples/pears, organic walnuts stuffed with organic dates, frozen bananas dipped in organic nut butter with cinnamon and organic raw dark cacao or raw carob. The possibilities are endless - use your imagination or ask your kids to help. There's tons of healthy recipes online.

Here's an information packed article about recent research that backs up the Warburg effect (In the 1930's Otto Warburg described how most cancer cells metabolize sugar. He even won a Nobel Prize for this theory.) And yet here we are in the 21st century still battling cancer while sugar consumption is at an all time high. For much of this nonsense,  you can attribute it to food manufacturers deceitful marketing.  "Research Reveals How Sugar Causes Cancer" from HealthyandNaturalWorld by Jenny Hills.

RiseEarth : Why Sugar Is Wrecking Your Health & How To Quit | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it

Via Evieira
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar, the sweet poison is racking up its victims in insidious ways. Sugar has the backing of Big Food Corporations and the U.S. Government which allows these manufacturers to market to young children and uninformed, unsuspecting adults.

Holistic Health professionals and some scientists have known for years about the dangers of sugar consumption, but no one was listening. Now with the rapid rise of Diabetes, people are becoming more aware of this epidemic and more health professionals are speaking up and demanding change.

This excellent article highlights the different names of sugar that manufacturers use to deceive the public. A video trailer of the Sundance film "Fed Up" is included.

Health Tip: Do your body and you a huge favor. Avoid hidden sugar in processed foods by reading labels, being informed, and limiting sugar as much as you can. Eat real whole fruit with no labels and wholesome sweetness from Mother Earth.

Artificial sweeteners may tip scales toward metabolic problems | Science News | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
The artificial sweetener saccharin meddles with the gut’s microbial community, setting in motion metabolic changes associated with obesity and diabetes.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Health Professionals for years have warned their patients, clients that artificial sweeteners are harmful for the human body. There have been studies done which are listed in PubMed and on other databases such as GreenMedInfo and in journals as well. There are peer-reviewed  and published research  linking aspartame to 40 adverse health effects.

So it comes as no surprise that a new multi pronged study in the journal Nature finds that saccharin "meddles with the gut's microbial community setting in motion metabolic changes that are associated with obesity and diabetes".The researchers say that other zero-calorie sweeteners may cause the same problems.

Read the full article as the last paragraph opens up another piece of the puzzle:  Artificial Sweeteners May Tip Scales Toward Metabolic Problems from ScienceNews.org.

Artificial sweeteners as the name implies are fake, artificial, and not real food. Of course neither is sugar which is a drug/toxin. Eat fruit for sweet tastes and use sparingly raw organic honey, organic liquid Stevia, and organic Grade B Maple syrup.

Is Big Business Covering Up the Truth About Sugar? | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
A new report by the Center for Science and Democracy shows that big companies with sugar interests are using misinformation to cover up the truths about sugar.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Are you aware that big companies with sugar interests such as food and beverage manufacturers and industry supported organizations, such as trade groups, front groups, and public relations firms have engaged in widespread misinformation and untruths to ensure the U.S. public's consumption of high levels of sugar continues?

Read the article detailing the Center for Science and Democracy new report, titled "Added Sugar, Subtracted Science: How Industry Obscures Science and Undermines Public Health Policy on Sugar".

Make no mistake, sugar is a proven toxin that stimulates your brain to produce more dopamine, the "feel good" hormone. Street drugs like heroin have the same effect, putting one's body into a state of addiction.

More bad news for sugar - Research confirms it is a leading cause of heart disease
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar, the sweet poison has now been confirmed as a leading cause of heart disease. "And interestingly the researchers determined that the increase in cardiovascular risk factors is not attributable to weight gain, commonly associated with excess sugar intake. Sugar directly raises heart disease risk independent of weight gain."

Read this important article.which refers to 49 nutritional intervention trials conducted since 1965 - 2013 and skewed research results from studies funded by the food/sugar industries.

For health conscious individuals  and people just learning about sugar and it's destructive bent, it's best to totally eliminate/avoid any refined sugar and processed foods. Remember it's a choice. Choose wisely to lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases, plus Alzheimer's and cancer.

Cancer & Sugar - Strategy for Selective Starvation of Cancer

Cancer & Sugar - Strategy for Selective Starvation of Cancer | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Whereas many within the mainstream medical community insist on promoting the belief that the link between certain types of food with an increased risk of cancer is "weak" or only "nominally significant," the scientific evidence continues to accumulate indicating sugar feeds cancer.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you most likely know that sugar is a sweet poison that harms your body in numerous ways.

Does this get your attention? Researchers at the University of California,. S.F. say that sugar poses a health risk contributing to around 35 million deaths globally each year. Some say it now should be considered a toxic substance like alcohol and tobacco. Plus because of its link with the onset of diabetes, a tax on foods containing sugar is warranted.

Sugar's harmful effects extends to a plethora of chronic diseases such as metabolic syndrome, heart disease, hyper and hypoglycemia, GERD, and Cancer. Yet mainstream doctors and specifically oncologists fail to help their patients stop feeding their cancers with sweets.

Many alternative medical doctors and other health care practitioners know that the most logical, efficient, safe, necessary and inexpensive way to treat cancer is to cut off the supply of food feeding the cancer.

Since 1923. it's been known that tumor cells use more glucose than normal cells. In research published in June of 2012 in the Journal Molecular Systems Biology, " Dr Thomas Graeber and colleagues, demonstrated how glucose starvation - depriving cancer cells of glucose - activated a metabolic and signalling amplification loop that leads to cancer cell death as a result of the toxic accumulation of reactive oxygen species."

Refined sugars are strongly linked to cancer. These sugars cause inflammation in the body. Make sure to click on the link for the video. Reducing and abstaining from some simple carbohydrates is essential. These sugars are found in fruits, fruit juices, sodas, white bread, white pasta, white rice, milk, and milk products, most snack foods and sweets. And the simple sugars that are added to processed foods,. And let's not forget High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) plus fructose by itself is also damaging as it accelerates aging.

Read the full article to get the complete skinny on all the ways that sugar causes cancer, increases inflammation, and devastates your immune system.

Remember the food you eat does indeed make a difference in how your body will feel and react. Be well, be aware, and be safe. The choice is always in your control.

Eggs Don’t Cause Heart Attacks — Sugar Does - Dr. Mark Hyman

Eggs Don’t Cause Heart Attacks — Sugar Does - Dr. Mark Hyman | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
It’s over. The debate is settled. It’s sugar, not fat, that causes heart attacks. Oops. Fifty years of doctors’ advice and government eating guidelines have been wrong. We’ve been told to swap eggs for Cheerios. But that recommendation is dead wrong. In fact, it’s very likely that this bad advice has killed millions of Americans. …
Sandi Cornez's insight:

According to the FDA, sugar is still classified (GRAS) generally regarded as safe. That classification lets the food industry add unlimited amounts of sugar to your food. The American Medical Association recommends 5 to 7.5% of sugar - still too much. Yet most North Americans are consuming much more.

Are you aware that tomato sauce has more sugar than a serving of Oreo cookies or that fruit yogurt has more sugar than a Coke, and that most breakfast cereals, even whole grains, are 75% sugar? Dr. Hyman saiys, "that's dessert, not breakfast".

Sugar triggers inflammation which causes heart attacks, obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Cancer, and Dementia, and is the leading cause of liver failure in the U.S.

Still think sugar is just empty calories?

According to Dr. Hyman, sugar sweetened soft drinks, sports drinks, juices, teas and coffee are the biggest culprits.  More than 37% of sugar calories come from sodas. The average teenage boy consumes 34 teaspoons of sugar a day, or about 544 calories from sugar. This sugar overload isn't just putting kids at risk for heart attacks, it's killing them before their 20th birthday.

Healthy fat as in Omega-3 fats, nuts, healthy oils (olive, coconut, seed oils) have been unfairly blamed for years. Trans fats are still harmful.

Read the full article for Dr. Hyman's recommendaitons for how to cure the U.S. sugar addiction.

Break a sugar addiction in a week using three simple steps

Break a sugar addiction in a week using three simple steps | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Break a sugar addiction in a week using three simple steps
Sandi Cornez's insight:

You've heard the expression, "where there's a will, there's a way". Knowing what I know about sugar and more importantly, knowing and feeling the harm it was doing in my body, it was very easy for me to stop buying any food products that contained sugar and/or sugar like ingredients ending in the letters "ose". Now I wasn't a huge consumer of sugar to begin with. I had stopped baking with sugar many years ago. I didn't eat very much processed foods. I did read labels as I've been in the habit of reading labels for years now.

Over a period of one month, I basically stopped eating anything with sugar in it. And during this time, I also stopped eating fruit. Gradually the fruit was added back and I ate it in the late afternoon or evening with protein. Today I eat fruit again and have no health issues.

This article speaks on breaking a sugar addiction (which I didn't have) and (which many people do have); breaking a sugar addiction in a week using these three simple steps. I do agree with the steps. However, I have some issues with whether people who are truly addicted to sugar can break their addiciton in a week. Remember it took me four weeks (a month). You may be different. What I do know is that it takes persistence and consistency and that for many people this avoidance isn't easy, especially when people are bombarded at the grocery store, on the TV commercials, billboards, family members etc.

Sugar is addictive. It is a toxin, a drug which is similar to drugs. And it messes up your brain just as street drugs do.

Fruit, organic or pesticide free is a wonderful substitute for sugar laden foods. Fruit is nature's way of providing sweetness to our body. Vegetables are critical, again organic, pesticide free (if you're eating the skin, buy organic, if not you can buy conventional). Both veggies and fruits are what is known as complex carbohydrates; which break down slower in the body than do simple carbohydrates (white flour, sugar, white pasta, white rice) This means that the body doesn't send those craving messages to the brain.

For people totally addicted to sugar (those of you on the Standard American Diet (SAD), a better substituten than eating pies, cakes, cookies or a tub of icecream is homemade whole grain bread drizzled with raw honey (a little goes a long way and is very sweet). Of course who is the one going to make the homemade bread as this article suggests. I would suggest buying a dense European style whole grain bread without added sugar and either drizzing raw local honey on it or speading raw almond butter or even organic peanut butter on it. It's delicious and will satisfy your sweet tooth.

In a tub of commercial vanilla icecream there is approximately 260 calories, 14 grams of fat, and 28 grams of refined sugar. And for those of you eating soy type ice cream desserts, check the labels because they are also loaded with fat and sugar. Frozen yogurt is another of those deceptive sweets. This was my favorite many many years ago.

The brand of dense European style bread that I like is Certified Organic 100% Rye Bread with sunflower seeds. There are 110 calories in 1 slice, total fat is 1 gram, with 0 grams of sugar. And it is absolutely the most delicious tasting bread. I spread organic raw almond butter on it for a yummy satisfying treat.

In place of craving crunchy snacks, substitute my favorite - nuts and seeds. Raw nuts and seeds (organic) along with healthy trail mixes with unsweetened fruit and healthy fats are a wonderful choice.

You can also make your own kale and beet chips in place of fried potato chips or other processed bag chips.

And for a special treat you can make sweet healthy desserts using raw cacao or carob (70-100% organic), organic dates (just a few), organic walnuts, and organic coconut. Raw cacoa is loaded with antioxidants which help to neutralize free radicals which cause inflammation in your body. Dates are naturally sweet and delicious, walnuts are one of the best nuts to consume and help your brain, and coconut is one of the healthy fats.

Diet and sweetened drinks increase risk of depression by 30 percent

Diet and sweetened drinks increase risk of depression by 30 percent | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Diet and sweetened drinks increase risk of depression by 30 percent
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Truthfully is there any wonder why in the last 50 years there has been a dramatic increase in cases of clinical depression? All one has to do is look at the consumption of sugar ingested daily by most people in the U.S.

A quick story. A number of years after I had stopped eating foods with any refined sugar in them, I ate a piece of milk chocolate that was loaded with sugar. It was a sample that I had been given at a networking event. I gave a piece to my business partner who was with me. Almost immediately after ingesting the sample, I began to snap at her for no reason. She noticed right away that my mood had definitely changed. Now you may not notice the harmful effects as quickly as I did as you may be still ingesting some sugar or a lot of sugar daily.

Sugar is a poison, a toxic substance that can wreak havoc in your body.

A research team presenting to the American Academy of Neurology has found that drinking sweetened beverages, and especially diet drinks is associated with an increased risk of depression in adults while drinking coffee was tied to a slightly lower risk. This study was a very large sampling of over 263,000 people between the ages of 50-71. Ten years later the participants were questioned whether they had been diagnosed with depression since 2000. A total of over 11,000 diagoses were made.

The scientists found that people drinking four or more cups of soda per day were 30% more likely to develop depression. Participants drinking four or more cups of sweetened fruit punch were 38% more likely to develop drepression as compared to those not drinking sweetened beverages.. And the risk was greater for people who drink diet soda than regular soda, diet instead of regular fruit punches and diet rather than regular iced tea.

5 Good Reasons to Avoid Refined Sugar

5 Good Reasons to Avoid Refined Sugar | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Refined sugar is bad news for our health. If you’ve been wanting to cut back on sugar but needed some good reasons, we’ve got you covered.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Refined sugar and/or processed foods all need to be avoided. Refined means the nutrients have been stripped away and then manufacturers replace missing vitamins, minerals with others plus chemicals and additives.. Is this crazy or what? Eat real whole food that is unrefined.

Health Tips:  Swap out sugar, a neurotoxin that feeds cancer  with healthy organic raw dates, figs, bananas, pineapple, mango, berries or other fruits of your choice. You can also use coconut sugar, Grade B Maple syrup (a little as it's 50% fructose), and lucuma found in most healthy markets. Use these sparingly. If you do use organic cane sugar, use just 1/4 cup  and add some applesauce  or a banana to your recipe.

We're eating how much?!
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar, also known as "sweet poison" has become one of the worst foods you can consume for your health. And it's not just table sugar but the hidden sugars found in all kinds of processed foods. Adults and children are consuming more of this harmful substance every year with rising rates of obesity, increases in chronic diseases such as Diabetes and heart disease. And of course sugar and its derivatives age you in well defined ways.

Health Tip:  Do your best to eliminate or reduce your sugar consumption as much as you can. Read labels to find sneaky sugar hidden in processed foods. Purchase  real whole food from Mother Nature. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves help to sweeten desserts. Use healthier sweeteners such as raw organic dates, berries, apples, pineapples, mangos, bananas, and figs.

Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar is a known sweet poison and so are sugar free artificial substitutes which have been created in labs by people. This is not food that your body recognizes.

Research done at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel was focused on 3 big fake sweeteners: Aspartame, founding diet drinks,  Saccharin, found in Sweet n'Low, and Sucralose, found in Splenda. All of them raised the risk of Diabetes.

Very interesting side note from the lead researcher, Professor Eran Elinav is that "the link between use of these artificial sweeteners through the bacteria in your gut to a tendency to develop the very disorders they were designed to prevent".

Shocking Foods That Are Loaded With High Fructose Corn Syrup (Sugar)

Shocking Foods That Are Loaded With High Fructose Corn Syrup (Sugar) | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it

With obesity at an all time high and related diseases like diabetes and metabolic disorder making so many people sick, should we pay more attention to our food labels?

There are so many "diet" foods that have staggering amounts of added sugars in them that people are consuming and assuming are safe to eat.

This is a list of some shocking foods that contain added sugars in the form of high fructose corn syrup that you may have thought were healthy.

Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar, the "recreational drug" (from Dr Mark Hyman) is in practically every processed food you can eat or do eat. Many people know by know that refined sugar and its alternative substitutes are toxic to the human body.  For many people consuming sugar is a death sentence as sugar and high glycemic index foods  (a rating system that measures blood sugar response to certain foods)  trigger the release of extra insulin into the bloodstream. Excess blood sugar creates a "browning" as in baked goods. This "browning" is called Glycation, which is in tissues and organs in your body. This glycation generates large amounts of free radicals and inflammation. Glycation accelerates the wrinkling of the skin, the aging of organs and tissues, and lessens blood circulation to all parts of the body, especially the eyes.

The increase in metabolic diseases such as diabetes is a direct result of the massive consumption of sugar and refined carbohydrates (processed foods that have  beneficial fiber removed).

Read this important article about the "Shocking Foods That are Loaded  with High Fructose Corn Syrup (sugar)". from The Weight Loss Lie by Wally. These are the so called "hidden" sugars that you would not expect to find in these particular foods.

Health Tip: If you are addicted to refined sugar and even organic sugar, stop buying processed foods. If you're healthy, eat a mostly plant based "live-t",exercise, and feel younger than you're age, then eat sugar sparingly. Maybe once a month. Or do as this curator does and completely eliminate sugar. Eat organic fruit. Your taste buds will adapt so that you can taste what real food is supposed to taste like. And you will be healthy and experience zestful living.

10 Disturbing Reasons Why Sugar is Bad For You

10 Disturbing Reasons Why Sugar is Bad For You | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Added sugar can cause harmful effects on metabolism and contribute to many diseases. Here are 10 disturbing reasons why sugar is bad for you.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Added sugar is the number one worst ingredient for your body and your overall health and well being. Sugar is an addictive toxin that can have harmful effects on your metabolism and contribute to many diseases, some of them being chronic diseases.

Here are 10 disturbing reasons to avoid sugar like the plague.

1. Added sugar contains no essential nutrients and is bad for your teeth.

Okay you've heard this so many times in so many ways, yet it's worth repeating. How do I know? Because I've seen what it did to my body and my health and to the bodies and health of others dear to me. You've seen it as well.

When people eat empty calories with no protein, essential fats, vitamins, and minerals - just pure energy (from sugar), this becomes a major problem and can create deficiencies in needed nutrients.

Sugar is bad for your teeth because it provides digestible energy for the bad bacteria in the mouth.

2. Added sugar is high in fructose which can overload your liver.

Here's a quick primer on what sugar is made from. From you'll better understand why sugar is so bad for your health.

Before sugar enters your bloodstream, it is broken down into two simple sugars: glucose and fructose. Glucose is found in every cell on the planet. If we don't get it from the food we consume, then our body makes it. Fructose is different. Our body does not produce it in any significant amount and there's no physiological need for it.

Fructose can only be metabolized by the liver in any significant amounts.

This isn't a problem if you eat a little bit from fruit or have just finished an exercise workout. In this case the fructose will be turned into glycogen and stored in the liver until we need it.

However, if the liver is full of glycogen (which is much more common) eating a lot of fructose overloads the liver, forcing it to turn the fructose into fat.

When eating large amounts of sugar repeatedly, this process can lead to fatty liver and many other serious problems.

This doesn't happen with fruit, except for people who only eat fruit and no other foods.

And because everyone's body is different there are variables. Some people who are healthy, cannot tolerate eating too much fruit. Know your own body, be aware of what you are consuming and digesting.

If you're eating the Western Standard American Diet (SAD) with processed foods, high calories, high unhealthy fats, and are inactive, then wake up because your body is in a state of severe nutritional deficiency and the fructose you eat will be converted into fat in your liver. Get yourself a guide someone who can help you to know which foods serve you and which do not.

3. Overloading the liver with fructose can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. NAFLD is becoming a growing problem in Western countries associated with metabolic diseases.

When fructose gets converted to fat in the liver, it goes out as VLDL cholesterol particles. Not all the fat gets out. Some of it can remain in the liver.

Studies show the people with NAFLD consume 2-3 times the fructose as the average person

4. Sugar can cause Resistance, a stepping stone to Metabolic Syndrome and Diabets.

Bottom line when people a lot sugar it can cause resistance to the hormone, insulin which can contribute to many diseases.

5. The Insulin Resistance can progress to Type 2 Diabetes

When our cells become resistant to the effects of insulin, the beta cells in our pancreas, make more of it.

This is crucial because chronically elevated blood sugars can cause severe harm.

Eventually as the insulin resistance becomes progressively worse, the pancreas can't keep up with the demand of producing enough insulin to keep blood sugar levels down.

This is the time when blood sugar levels climb over the top and a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes is made.

Are you aware that people who drink sugar sweetened beverages have up to an 83% higher risk of Type 2 Diabetes?

6. Sugar can give you cancer.

I can't speak for you, however just reading this wakes me up pretty fast to know I can do something to change my food habits. And I did many years ago. You can do the same.

Bottom line there is considerable evidence to show that sugar, due to its harmful effects on metabolism, can contribute to cancer.

7. Due to its Effects on Hormones and the Brain, Sugar has unique Fat Promoting Effects

Not all calories are created eqial. Different foods have different effects on our brains and the hormones that control food intake. Studies show that glucose doesn't have the same kind of effect on satiety (fullness) as glucose does.

Botton line fructose doesn't cause satiety in the brain or lower the hunger hormone ghrelin nearly as much as glucose does.

8. Because it causes massive Dopamine Release in the Brain, Sugar is Addictive

Sugar is like abusive drugs in that it causes a massive release of dopamine in the reward center of our brain. Biochemically our body is not adapted to take in this much sugar.

9. Sugar is a leading Contributor to Obesity in Adults and Children

Bottom line because of the effects of sugar on hormones and the brain, sugar dramatically increase the risk of obesity or becoming overweight.

Are you aware that each sugar sweetened beverage that your child drinks is associated with a over the top 60% increased risk of obesity?

10. It's not the fat, It's Sugar which raises your cholesterol and gives you Heart Disease.

New studies are showing that saturated fat is harmless. Read the article for links. I know there are conflicting studies in this arena. Use your own intuitive wisdom. What works for one person may not always work for another because our bodies are different.

If you are healthy and eat healthy ard are active,, then usisng a small amount of coconut oil and olive oil, eating nuts and seeds, and the healthy fats as in avocado are in my humble opinion perfectly okay. Again use your own intuitive wisdom. Check in with your body, how is it feeling. Your body will tell, it will show you.

Remember for people who can't tolerate sugar, it's best to avoid it completely. For other people, there are healthy alternatives to use in moderation.

Six ways turmeric heals your overburdened body

Six ways turmeric heals your overburdened body | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Six ways turmeric heals your overburdened body
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Anti inflammatory tumeric and its compound curcumin have been researched more than any other nutrient.

According to this artilcle curcumin has a difficult time getting past the stomach and into the small intestines where it can be absorbed into the blood. There are a couple of ways to get the most beneficial absorption.

Tumeric, an ingredient of curry is traditionally mixed with healthy fat and heated. A hint for how to prepare tumeric powder. Buy organic and either high quality or one that has certification on the label. Put 1/4 cup mixed into a 1/2 cup of pure, filtered, or ionized water and simmer for a few minutes on medium heat stirring constantly to form a slightly thick moist paste.

Let it cool and put it into a glass jar and it will keep for weeks in the fridge. Dissolve a small portion of the paste in a bit of warm milk or coconut oil. You can add pepper to take advantage of piperine's nutrient absorbing properties.

An easier way for those of you who don't want the hassle of preparation is to take curcumin capsules (high quality from science based companies). Empty the contents, add a small amount of warm pure virgin olive oil or coconut oil and add pepper if you're capsules don't have that listed in the ingredients.

Enteric coated capsules can bypass the stomach and into the small intestines where their contents can be absorbed.

Read the full article for all the six benefits of taking curcumin.
