A Primer on Baking with Alternative Sweeteners - Bon Appétit | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Everything you need to know about baking with less sugar and alternative sweeteners, like honey, maple syrup, and coconut sugar.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Are you trying to cut back on your sugar use? It seems this is the latest craze as even basketball teams are doing it. Word must be getting out that consumption of too much sugar, HFCS, artificial sweeteners, and hidden sugars leads to inflammation and chronic diseases, including cancer and dementia.

Health Tips:  Keep it simple when baking desserts and make it raw. Organic fruit, dried fruit, anything from raisins, figs, dates, prunes, persimmons works wonderfully. There's coconut sugar, grade B maple syrup, molasses, and raw honey as well. A little is all that's needed. Cinnamon, raw carob, a touch of lucuma add more sweetness.

Here is why Aspartame is the Most Dangerous Substance Added to our Food Supply. | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Here is the reason why Aspartame (and other artificial sweeteners) can make you sick and diabetic.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that artificial sweeteners as well as sugar, fructose, and hidden sugars found in highly refined processed non food cause inflammation and chronic diseases? These are all sweet poisons which are addictive at high levels of consumption.

From this new study published in 2014, comes the research that  found that "depending on your gut microbes , you are either able to handle artificial sweeteners, or you react to them in a negative way".  The view that the artificial sweeteners couldn't be digested has radically changed.

Health Tips:  Liquid Stevia is a far better replacement for your beverages. Use small amounts of organic grade B maple syrup and dried fruits for your homemade nutrient dense desserts. Or just eat a few pieces of organic fruit.

You Need To Know This In Order To Control Your Sugar Consumption And Related Health Problems - Herbs Info | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Do you - or anyone you know - have uncontrolled weight gain, diabetes or pre-diabetes, cancer or tooth decay? Please share this essential chart to help your friends who are battling against any of the many health issues that might be caused by sugar.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that sugar, aka sweet poison is making you sick, tired, fat, foggy, and addicted to consuming more and more? Sugar is a toxin which feeds and causes cancer and a host of other chronic diseases diabetes, heart disease, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Most people consume the astounding amount of 150 pounds of sugar in a year including artificial sweeteners, fructose, and hidden sugars found in highly refined processed non food. Sugar accelerates aging, increases inflammation, and fuels tumor growth; a metabolic disaster waiting to happen. Make sure to lower and eliminate your consumption of all kinds of sugar and processed food to reduce your risk of developing chronic disease/cancer.

Health Tips:  Eat more fruit and less sugar. Try new fruits in season. Use your crock pot for tantalizing warm fruit delights like apples or pears, and figs. Make pancakes with fruit, or cranberry carrot loaf bread,  or gluten free  nut muffins or bars with fruit. Use dried fruit in energy balls. Or just eat fruit by itself, spice roasted citrus with cashew cream,  or cold fruit slathered with nut butter.

You can always make chocolate bark with dried fruits to spice up your mood and day. Or make fruit smoothies, citrus carrot dressings, fruit cobblers, watermelon gazpacho, strawberry parfait, berry fig custard, coconut apple sauce, banana nut pudding - all real whole plant based food to enliven your appetite.

This Horrifying Video Will Make You Never Want to Drink Soda Again | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
More and more Americans are turning away from sugary soft drinks as they discover just how unhealthy soda can be. In an experiment where Coca-Cola and Coke Zero
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Are you still drinking sodas? After watching this video, you just might want to reconsider your beverage of choice. Drinking filtered water with frozen berries and/or Stevia is a better choice.

No matter which way you down it, sugar and other artificial sweeteners are bad news. From constant cravings, dizziness, weight gain, to blood sugar spiking to diabetes, heart disease, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, tooth decay, and cancer, this is one refined food you need to ditch quickly.

Health Tips:  If you change just one habit, make it to stop buying and drinking soda.  Instead, eat real whole plant based food and drink filtered water with herbs, frozen fruit, Stevia, lemon/lime slices, or plain. Eat more cold soups. Make yourself a delicious chia seed pudding with fruit and eat that in place of drinking sodas.

Homemade Green smoothies and green juices are good choices  to have in place of commercial bought drinks. And also stay away from those so called nasty energy drinks which also contain too much sugar and caffeine.

Here's a diet that actually works—and has the science to prove it

Here's a diet that actually works—and has the science to prove it | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Unlike low-fat regimens, which a giant new study finds are pretty worthless.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that by consuming plant based real whole foods daily with no processed refined fake food, you don't need to be on any diet, whether low fat, high fat, low carb, high carb? Most diets don't work anyway, but they do cause the yo-yo effect - fat off, fat on again and other health issues.

The article makes clear what we now know that fat isn't the problem, but sugar is. Of course there's differing camps on which fat is the healthiest. Yet all of these groups agree that trans fats (formerly known as hydrogenated) are dangerous to your health. This curation site promotes only plant based healthy fats like camelina, extra virgin olive, hemp, and coconut oil, avocados, and raw nuts.

Health tips: Are you aware that sweet potatoes can be stuffed and eaten as a main dish? Use one small sweet potato, add cinnamon, and nut butter and you have a tasty dessert without using any sugar. There are oodles of healthy plant based recipes using only fruit and/or spices online. Try one or two new recipes a week with no added sugar to help you cut down on your sugar usage.

Viral Alternative News: This Poison Destroys Your Bones but Everyone Drinks It (Even Daily) | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with the intake of soft drinks? "Drinking just one can of soda a day, appears to raise the odds of getting fatty liver disease by 45%". This information comes from Dr Michael Greger and his new book "How Not to Die".

The NIH-AARP study which followed hundreds of thousands of people for ten years found that frequent consumption of sweetened beverages may increase the risk of depression in older adults. Even adding sugar to your beverages may negate the positive effects on mood of the tea or coffee. Adding aspartame found in NutraSweet and Equal appeared to increase the risk of depression.

Sugar in all its forms from high fructose corn syrup to artificial sweeteners causes free radical damage which leads to chronic inflammation which then leads to chronic diseases.

Health Tips:  Eat real whole plant based food and get your sweets from small helpings of dried fruit and whole fruit. Drink filtered water plain, with flavored Stevia,  or with sliced lemon/lime or frozen fruit pieces.

You Asked: What's the Healthiest Sweetener?

You Asked: What's the Healthiest Sweetener? | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Why sweet and good-for-you might not go together

Via Institute for Responsible Nutrition
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that the healthiest sweetener you can consume is just a very few organic dates and raisins? This information most likely isn't the answer you were expecting. If you are among those people who eat more plant based real whole food, exercise and have adopted  a healthier lifestyle than chewing on a few fruits probably won't make much of a difference for your body's health.

However if you're in the sickness/chronic disease group that the majority of people around the world find themselves today, then you want to do everything possible to avoid consumption of any type of sugar, whether it be high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, artificial sweeteners, and even fruit. Yes fruit.

According to Dr Brian Clement, Director of Hippocrates Health Institute, "you can't eat fruit if you're fighting a disease". This information flies in the face of many other health professionals who advocate consumption of fruit is fine. To be more informed and educate yourself, read Dr Brian's newest book, "Sweet Disease:

What Sugars and Other Artificial Sweeteners are Doing to Your Health”. This subscriber is in no way receiving any monetary payment for this recommendation, It's to help you educate yourself.

In 2014, the percentage of people in the U.S. who were obese was up to 37.7%. Folks there's an epidemic occurring and people need help. A huge way you can help is to stop purchasing processed refined, GMO food. High Fructose Corn Syrup is GMO as well as deadly for your body. Write to your Senators and call them. Sign petitions for Labeling of GMO foods. About 93% of all corn and soybeans in the U.S. is GMO. Big Food companies will listen when their bottom line is decimated by you the consumer. Stand up for your right to eat #CleanFood. If not now, when?

Health Tips:  One of the best ways you can begin to slow down your sugar habit is to adopt a more plant based real whole food regimen, excluding fruit and not buying any or almost any processed refined non food. Yes, this isn't easy, but you have to start somewhere. Take baby steps at first and work with a good nutritional health advisor and/or Functional/Integrative health professional. Dr John McDougal has good information on his site that is Free.

Clean out your kitchen cabinets/pantry. Eat as much raw greens and veggies as you can. Steaming lightly and or dehydrating food works well. Add sprouted organic food and fermented food to this new food lifestyle. Add organic herbs and spices to flavor your food and give it zing. Involve your family and friends and make it a supportive fun activity. Your taste buds will acclimate to the new food you're eating very quickly.

Study Says Sugar's Harm Is Not About Weight, It's Just 'Because It's Sugar.' Is This True? | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
This has certainly been the decade of jumping the sugar ship – and largely with good reason. The studies to illustrate what excess sugar can do to the body keep rolling in. And a new one in the journal Obesity goes a little further by trying to tease apart the difference between cutting out sugar and losing weight. It argues that sugar isn’t bad because it makes you gain weight. It’s bad because it brings about other, more sinister changes to the body – metabolic changes that are distinct from weight.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the U.S.  A FaceBook post said that "there's always room for more than one piece of pie" on Thanksgiving. That may be true, depending on what ingredients are in the pie.

If you've been reading this curation site, then you know that excess sugar consumed on a daily basis doesn't just cause you to gain weight. It causes a metabolic disaster in your body which leads to fatty liver disease, obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and heart disease.

Ingredients you can use:  a small amount of grade B organic maple syrup or coconut sugar, or raisins, or dates, or mission figs, or bananas.  Add ins:  carrots, or pumpkin puree, sweet potatoes, and spices:  cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, or pumpkin pie spice. Just one junk food SNACK 'is enough to trigger metabolic disease'

Just one junk food SNACK 'is enough to trigger metabolic disease' | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Eating an extra 1,300 calories, in the form of chocolate bars, cakes or savoury treats, increases a person's chance of developing metabolic syndrome, Dutch scientists have warned.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that eating a processed refined junk food snack just once a day every day increases the likelihood of you developing metabolic syndrome, according to Dutch scientists?

Metabolic syndrome is a  cluster of health conditions that include high blood pressure, insulin and leptin resistance, high LDL, liver dysfunction, and obesity.

Health Tips: Are you craving chocolate, you're most likely deficient in magnesium, the essential electrolyte mineral. Try consuming one or two small pieces of dark chocolate (100-70% raw cacao) with no sugar and a small piece of fruit for the sweet taste.. The dark chocolate will help up your magnesium levels while the small piece of fruit will satisfy your sweet tooth. You can even add raw nuts or homemade nut butter (no sugar) for an awesome plant based real wholesome food treat that serves your body instead of harming it.

Sugary drinks raise risk of heart attack, heart disease by more than a third

Sugary drinks raise risk of heart attack, heart disease by more than a third | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
A new study urges action to reduce consumption of sugary drinks, as they are confirmed to contribute to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and gout.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Consumption of sugary drinks by half the U.S. public is the topic of this new study which urges action as these beverages have been shown to contribute to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and now gout.

Nothing new here for readers of this curation site. Sugar is an addictive toxin that ages you and causes inflammation. All sugars, whether hidden in processed refined non food, artificial sweeteners, or fructose when eaten or drank n excessive amounts cause massive damage to your body. Did you know that sugar feeds and causes cancer?

In recent times in the U.S., people, maybe like you have eaten about 20 teaspoons sugar/day in form of fruit to about 150 pounds of sugar, per person, per year. That's half a pound of sugar for every person which is staggering in terms of your health.

Sugar and other toxins destroy your brain, your gut, your heart, and your liver. When your brain isn't working well, symptoms such as brain fog, moodiness, depression, anger appear. Sugar and toxins destroy the lining of your GI tract by eating little holes in the epithelium, allowing for leaks into your bloodstream. These toxins then find the fattiest organs in your body.

Maybe it's your largest organ, your skin and eczema appears, maybe your pancreas which triggers diabetes, or maybe your lungs and cancer spreads, or the fattiest organ in your body: your brain.

Health Tips:  Drink green juices, green smoothies homemade, drink lots of filtered pure water with lemon/lime slices or frozen fruit slices. Drink organic herbal teas rich in plant compounds. Eat low sugar fruits like tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers. Consume an apple or some blueberries, cranberries, strawberries with some plant based protein. Consume healthy fats, organic avocados, nuts, organic camelina gold oil, coconut, and/or olive oil.

A history of sugar – the food nobody needs, but everyone craves

A history of sugar – the food nobody needs, but everyone craves | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Like many great challenges of the 21st century, the science identifying the problems with sugar seems clear. What's lacking is the will to address them.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that sugar has a rather sordid history fueling the rise of the African slave trade, centuries of wars, and colonial expansion?  Sugar also is a metabolic disaster waiting to happen.

Are you aware that the predominance of sweet taste sensors in the tongue helped your hunter gatherer ancestors by tipping them off as to the presence of starch which they needed (roots, tubers, fruits, veggies - complex carbs). In this way, they also had information as to which plant was safe to eat. Poisonous plants are never sweet.

When people finally found out many centuries later how to refine two starches (cane and beets), down to the substance known as sucrose, (table sugar), then glucose from the starches was no longer being released slowly. Sucrose is digested by enzymes in saliva and raises glucose levels in a matter of seconds. And the amount of glucose available was unlimited.

People then (Europeans) knew nothing about the harmful consequences to their health. And many many people today also seem to know nothing about the dangerous consequences to their health and well-being. Sugar accelerates aging and contributes to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome.

Health tips: Eat real whole plant based organic foods in their natural state; an apple vs apple pie. Use spices to add sweet flavor to your food. Cinnamon, vanilla bean,/powder, carob are some good spices to use. Add a few raisins, figs, dates, or prunes to your treats.

Your taste buds can and do change when you take the first step by starting on your new journey to a more vibrant, healthier, thinner, energized you. Begin new lifestyle habits today with plant based whole food and movement. You'll be so glad you took that baby step.

How DO energy drinks perk us up?

How DO energy drinks perk us up? | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
While energy drinks provide a quick boost, they have been linked with heart attacks, anxiety, headaches, according to an infographic created by online games company bwin.com.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Have you grabbed a so called energy drink lately? How'd you feel after you drank it? Since "energy" drinks first hit the market years ago, there have been conflicting reports of their health benefits from manufacturers vs their harmful effects on your body from health/science researchers.

Most of these type of drinks are loaded with sugar from 13 teaspoons to  20 teaspoons  and also very high dangerous amounts of caffeine. With these excessive amounts of sugar, you're setting your body up for chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome. And most diabetics don't even know they have the disease because it typically displays no symptoms in its early stages.

Yes there's some other healthier ingredients, but why would you want to drink something that could possibly kill you with that much sugar and caffeine?

And kill it has. Numerous stories, articles have documented the deaths of many younger persons, otherwise healthy teens who have drank more than one or two of these drinks in a day and who tragically died. Many high school systems in the U.S. have banned these drinks from their campuses.

Health Tips:  Drink filtered or pure spring water everyday. Yes, if you want a cup of coffee, drink it or make your own. Try green tea too. Start to eat more plant based real whole foods in place of processed refined junk foods. Plant based foods, especially dark leafy greens give your body the true energy vitality it requires without resorting to drinking these dangerous beverages.

Make sure you're taking enough magnesium, a key mineral for cellular energy dynamics. And take vitamin B complex which reduces fatigue. Your body uses B vitamins in almost every point in the body's energy cycle.

6 Healthy Foods That Are Packed With Sugar

6 Healthy Foods That Are Packed With Sugar | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Sugar is a dangerous drug. Overconsumption is associated with obesity, diabetes, heart disease, premature aging, inflammation, hormonal imbalance, depression
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Here we go again on the sugar roller coaster. Did you know that sugar can be equated to being a drug because your body  becomes addicted to its effects and you want more and more and more. The more sugar you consume, the more free radical activity your body experiences which leads to chronic inflammation and disease.

Maybe you're really trying to eat healthy but you may be stressed due to home, life, kids, pets and/or your work. Life can be hectic and you may not take the time or even have the time to really check labels. When shopping you quickly scan the products and see the words "healthy", "natural", "sugar-free", and even "non-GMO". The item goes into your grocery cart and then into your kitchen cabinet.

Unfortunately, what you may not realize is that most big food manufacturers cannot be trusted. Their bottom line is profit from you purchasing their products. When you read the words "healthy" etc, you believe the item is healthy. Think again. It's a disgrace that these food items are even allowed on the shelves. But you have the buying power to change the rules of the game. Start doing your food due diligence and when profits go down, changes happen.

Earlier in another post, you read on this site about this man from Australia,  who consumes the amount of sugar an average Australian eats -" 160 grams or 40 teaspoons a day" - but the kicker is he eats so called "healthy" food. And it's not just Australians that eat this much sugar, hidden or otherwise,' people in the U.S. and other parts of the world do as well. Maybe even you.

Health Tips:  Shop in the perimeter of your grocery store where the produce (veggies/fruits) and bulk aisles are located. If you do buy processed food, buy organic, unrefined and do read the labels carefully. Organic and non-GMO can be loaded with sugar.

If you can't read the word, don't buy the product. If there's more than 5 ingredients, don't buy the product. If you read lactose, sucrose, or any other word ending in "ose", that's indicates sugar. Avoid buying product. If sugar is the first ingredient, don't buy the product. Your body will thank you.

Ten foods that CLAIM to be healthy that are packed with sugar and fat

Ten foods that CLAIM to be healthy that are packed with sugar and fat | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Australian dietitian Alison Ginn has revealed the top 10 foods you think are healthy that are actually bad for you, including 'healthy' flavoured water, breakfast biscuits and low-fat yoghurt.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that big food manufacturers play sneaky word tricks on packaged processed food to deceive you into buying their product/brand? Don't be fooled or your health will suffer as a result. Fight back with your purse/wallet. Get in the habit of learning their lingo so you know the difference between "fake-food-speak" and real whole plant based food-truth.

Health Tips:  Anything with the words "sugar, HFCS, sugar free, ending in ose" are to be avoided. Sugar and its derivatives (artificial, hidden) feed and cause cancer, cause your blood sugar to spike, malnourish your brain, and are connected to so many of today's epidemics. Your best bet is to opt for whole fruit.

What about vitamin water, fruit juice, gatorade, energy drinks you ask. Skip all of them. Again sugar and all sorts of chemical additives, toxins, and tons of caffeine are lurking inside that fancy dressed up bottle, can, or cup. Just drink real filtered water, homemade green juice with lots of fresh ginger root and one fruit. If you want coffee, make it yourself and take a thermos to work. Same with tea. Many of the commercial teas are loaded with GMOs. Buy loose leaf certified organic.

Skip anything fried because you really don't know what oil was used and of course the same pan is always used. Pan fry or sauté in camelina oil which has the highest smoke point and is rich in omega-3s. Healthy fat is good for you. Stay away from vegetable oils like corn, soybean, cottonseed, safflower, fake canola as these are GMO derived and contain omega 6s. Consuming too many omega 6 fats and not enough omega 3s causes inflammation.

Stay away from yogurts filled with GMOs and sugar. You can make your own yogurt with any of these plant based foods: coconut meat, coconut flakes, buckwheat (ancient grain), or raw nuts and use a high quality probiotic. Add fresh cut up fruit or chia seeds.

Do you like vegetable chips? Make your own and bake them or dehydrate them. You can make beet, sweet potato, kale, carrot, squash chips using camelina oil and nutritional yeast. Absolutely delicious.

High Sugar Consumption Linked to Breast Cancer

High Sugar Consumption Linked to Breast Cancer | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
A NIH–funded study found that high sugar consumption (the amount in a typical Western diet) is linked to an increase in breast cancer tumor growth and spread of
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that  a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health conducted by the University of Texas found what we already have known for years that high sugar consumption and the Standard American diet (SAD) are directly linked to cancer and other chronic diseases? Time to wean yourself off your sugar habit.

Sugar is connected to so many of today's epidemics from diabetes, heart disease, obesity, metabolic disorder, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, dementia, to cancer. The SAD is composed of non food, toxic chemicals, hidden sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

This high dose of sugar affects your brain as it becomes malnourished and shrinks. Imbalanced chemicals in the brain can express themselves in symptoms such as moodiness to brain fog, difficulty concentrating, to depression, rage, and instability.

Health tips:  Try to avoid these foods: sugar, artificial sweeteners, gluten as in wheat, simple carbs (white flour, commercial baked goods, boxed popcorn, salad dressings, etc), dairy, processed food, alcohol, soda, energy drinks, and too much caffeine.

A new study reveals an alarming link between diets high in sugar and a skyrocketing risk of breast cancer.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Health tips:  Consume real whole plant based food with little to no processed food and no sugar. Consider adding a new green, veggie, and fruit to your meals each week. Find a recipe you like and prepare it using your new choices. Mix and match your foods.

Dietary sugar accelerates breast cancer risk | Northern Californian | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that recent studies are showing that sugar, specifically fructose and sucrose accelerate growth of breast  cancer and may spread to other body areas?  These findings support other studies that infer that people, maybe like you who consume more of a Standard American diet (SAD) of processed highly refined non food and large amounts of sugar, have a higher risk of cancer.

Health Tips: In place of sugar in your porridge, add loads of cinnamon, a few raisins, or frozen berries, nuts, carob, and slivers of dark chocolate with no added sugar. Cinnamon and coconut milk make every cup of unsweetened cocoa a special treat.

Eat one new whole fruit a week and create ways to use it in your meals. Eat more savory and spicy foods to up level your tastebuds. Add more grated ginger to your foods for a top of the day bite sure to please even a finicky eater.

This junk-food-funded elementary school curriculum is bonkers

This junk-food-funded elementary school curriculum is bonkers | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Kids are learning that they can exercise away Big Macs and Pepsis. Scientists beg to differ.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know there's no way on this planet for you or your kids to exercise away a junk non food regimen? Don't tell that to the Big Food corporations who are bankrolling a so called health foundation which is promoting an educational campaign on energy balance to school districts and other organizations. And their mission is to "help reduce obesity".

Sounds good, right? Guess again as the theme is "there are no good foods or bad foods - just keep eating all the fake sugary  food you want. "Too bad there's no real science connected with this program.

Health Tips:  There is no moderation when it comes to consuming sugar and highly processed refined non food. These ingredients all lead to chronic inflammation which then leads to chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and cancer.

In the new year make a health conscious decision to radically reduce these items from your meals. Then stick with it. and don't beat yourself up, if you have a little relapse. Start again and keep on with it as this will be the very best gift you can give yourself and your family.

Begin with your swapping out highly processed for lightly processed or make it yourself. In place of sugar, eat fruit, raw, cooked, dried in small amounts. Use cinnamon, vanilla bean, carob, lucuma, maple syrup, coconut sugar, Stevia to add more sweetened flavor, again in small amounts. You can use more cinnamon as this spice is highly rich in antioxidants. you can also use spicy herbs for a different taste sensation.

Yes do continue or start an exercise program and move throughout your day. Drink lots of filtered water as water fills you up and helps your body's elimination process.

How Aspartame Effects the Brain

How Aspartame Effects the Brain | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Various effects of artificial sweeteners, including neurological effects, have been suspected. For example, aspartame—the chemical in Equal and Nutrasweet
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that Aspartame, (NutraSweet) AminoSweet, Splenda, and saccharin (Sweet N Low, Equal) have been poisoning your brains for years, not to mention the effects to your gut? These artificial sweeteners contain a combination of chemicals 1. aspartic acid, which is an amino acid with excitatory effects on brain cells 2. methanol, and 3. phenylalanine, which when broken down produces a compound that is a potent brain tumor causing chemical.

Aspartame consumption causes a variety of symptoms including panic attacks, slurred speech, depression, and migraines. All these sweeteners are found in most processed non food product including sodas, sugar free products, yogurts, chewing gum, flavored water, cereal, sauces, and the little packets in restaurants.

Health Tips: Avoid these artificial sweeteners like the plague, and while you're at it, eliminate all processed refined toxic non food from your home. This advice may sound like a broken record or in today's lingo, a broken DVD, but the message is clear; the more real whole plant based foods you consume, the healthier you , your body, brain, gut, organs, heart will be.

Remember there's always plant based stevia, coconut sugar, maple syrup, and small amounts of dried and fresh/frozen fruit to sweeten your food. Vanilla bean, cinnamon, lucuma, raw carob, and coconut butter sweeten as well.

Does Sugar Promote Heart Disease and Cancer? - Herbs Info

Does Sugar Promote Heart Disease and Cancer? - Herbs Info | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
High sugar consumption, Fructose in particular, has been implicated in the development of both heart disease and cancer... [read more]
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Sugar whether you love or despise it, it's ubiquitous in our culture today. It's found in almost every commercial processed refined food. High consumption of sugar for the average person  eating all this non food causes massive health problems. Even for people, maybe you, who eat towards the healthier side of the plate, sugar can be toxic.

Glucose is the fuel your cells use for energy. When it's in your blood, it's known as blood sugar. During digestion, glucose seeps through the intestinal wall and enters your bloodstream. However, cells require insulin to convert glucose into fuel. Insulin is produced by the pancreas and is released into the bloodstream when your pancreas senses that glucose levels are rising, usually after meals, so that more cells open up to let in the fuel they need.

Diabetes 2 results when your cells don't respond to insulin efficiently. when glucose levels are consistently elevated, this means that insulin isn't working right and your pancreas makes more of it. When cells don't open up in the presence of insulin, then you have what's known as insulin resistance. This is the first stage of type 2 and when this happens, your cells don't get enough glucose. You may experience varying levels of dizziness and fatigue.

Elevated levels can also cause excessive urination. Through this loss of water, sugar becomes even more concentrated in your blood. Concentrated glucose is a toxin that can damage your heart, eyes, kidneys, blood vessels, and other organs. Excess sugar in your blood also combines with protein and increases oxidation and free radical damage, which speeds up the aging process. This is why people with diabetes often look much older than their biological age.

Health tips: Be carb smart and eat healthy fat. Fat is not your enemy. Sugar is. Load your plate with heart healthy organic greens and veggies, nuts/seeds, legumes, ancient grains.  Have fruit for dessert or in the morning with your porridge, green smoothie, or salad.

Swap out white rice, gluten bread, white potatoes for quinoa, homemade raw carrot cake, sweet potatoes. These are just some examples of foods you can easily substitute to lessen your sugar load.

Consider eating more raw and sprouted foods, and more fermented food. Hearty plant based real whole food soups like bean, lentil, split pea make warming nutritious meals for these seasons of Fall and Winter. Plant based real whole foods are nutrient dense, proving your body with key vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.

9 Reasons to Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup like the Plague | Care2 Healthy Living

9 Reasons to Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup like the Plague | Care2 Healthy Living | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Discover the serious health damage that eating HFCS causes--by best-selling author of 60 SECONDS TO SLIM & WEEKEND WONDER DETOX, Dr. Michelle Schoffro Cook, PhD, DNM.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that no matter how you view it, sugar is sugar is sugar? High fructose corn syrup, hidden sugars in processed refined non food, table sugar (sucrose) are all harmful to your body. Sugar and toxins have destroyed the lining of your gut by eating little holes in the epithelium, allowing for leaks onto your bloodstream.

HFCS goes directly to your liver and massive consumption by most people world wide leads to fatty liver disease. HFCS is the main driver behind the current epidemic of obesity, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, heart disease, cancer, and dementia.

Most of the corn in high fructose corn syrup is GMO. Scientists estimate that about 93% of all conventionally grown corn is genetically modified. What a scary combination; toxic sugar and toxic GMOs. No wonder so many people are so sick today.

Health Tips:  Take back your health because your the only one who can. Mainstream docs just don't know about nutrition and are overworked. Hospitals tout chemo and drugs (more toxins) and give patients sugary foods after surgery. The esteemed FDA isn't going to help anytime soon if you follow their track record.

Decide today to cut back on your consumption of sugar and buy organic to avoid GMOs. Purchase more plant based real whole food and very little processed food. Choose organic fruit for dessert or use fruit in  place of sugar in your desserts.

Here's an easy peasy delicious nutritious dessert anyone can make:

organic hemp seeds, raisins, cinnamon, raw cacao/carob

mix by hand or in FP until a ball is formed

roll into smaller balls

eat and enjoy

Viral Alternative News: A Froot Loops Sample was Sent to a Lab for Tests..What They Found Should Have Every Parent Concerned | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that it's time to wake up from the  devastating nightmare that both sugar and genetically modified foods (GMO's) are creating in our world?  Sugar when consumed in excessive quantities is addictive, feeds and causes cancer, and causes  chronic inflammation leading to diseases.

GMOs are just as deadly. With sugar at least you know what it is. GMOs on the other hand have never been tested by the EPA. Scientists from environmental agencies have done their research and found that the active ingredient in RoundUp (Glyphosate) which is sprayed by conventional farmers buying seed from Monsanto, has been linked to dozens of diseases, endocrine disruption, gut issues, and the list goes on.

Health Tips: Parents stop buying cold cereals and other highly processed refined non foods, and cut out the sugar. Your children deserve better. Buy organic , non-GMO as much as possible. Give your kids bananas rolled in oats, cinnamon, and carob (chocolaty taste). Try some hot cereals like cooked quinoa. Or buy organic quinoa and millet puffs. Add cut up fruit, nuts.

Give your children some nuts or slather sugar free nut butters on fruit/veggies. Homemade peanut butter or almond butter cookies make a nutritious breakfast or healthy snack. Adults love these as well. Make it a family meal.

Obese Kids' Health Improves After Just 9 Days Without Added Sugar

Obese Kids' Health Improves After Just 9 Days Without Added Sugar | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Reducing the amount of sugar that children consume for as little as 9 days is all it takes for youngsters’ health to start improving, a new study says.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know you can improve your health when you eliminate and/or reduce your consumption of sugar?  If the children in this study were able to change their bodies response rate, just imagine what you can do.

Health Tips:  Start slowly to wean yourself off from eating added sugar. Read labels of food in your kitchen cupboards and begin eliminating those that you know are harmful to your health. Add more veggies and fruits to your shopping cart and reduce your purchases of processed chemical enriched foods with hidden sugars like salad dressings, ketchup, pastries, commercial breads, microwave popcorn,  sodas, etc.

Eat more starchy veggies like sweet potatoes topped with cinnamon in place of sugary processed sweets. Add more plant based protein loaded with satiating fiber to your meals (beans, lentils, split peas). Make every meal a nutrient dense meal with plant protein, complex carbs (produce), and an ancient grain (quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, millet, teff).

56 Most Common Names for Sugar You Should Know

56 Most Common Names for Sugar You Should Know | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Added sugar, like glucose and fructose, may be the single unhealthiest ingredient in the modern diet, and a key factor in heart disease and diabetes
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know sugar has many names some of which you may be familiar, some not so much? Most of the added sugar you may eat comes from processed refined non food. As you now know food manufacturers add sugar as well as additives, emulsifiers, and other dangerous harmful ingredients to packaged food. Even organic food is not immune from this practice.

Health tips:  Be aware of sugars from  processed corn (see article) as about 93% of all corn in the U.S. is genetically modified which has been shown to cause diseases. When people stop eating GMO contaminated food, it has been demonstrated, they feel better, their digestive tract improves, they have more energy, less brain fog, better mood, and weight loss.

Consume plant based real whole foods (organic/certified organic preferred) and fruit as your sweetener of choice. By being aware, you can teach others how to protect and prevent health challenges from stealing the best years of one's life.

Is Juice Really Worse Than Soda? | JJ Virgin

Is Juice Really Worse Than Soda? | JJ Virgin | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Juicing that fruit strips away its fiber and many nutrients. An apple is medium-sugar impact, but juice it -- strip its fiber and nutrients -- and it becomes a high-sugar-impact fructose bomb.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that fruit juice is just as harmful to your health as is drinking soda?  Soda contains large amounts of sugar and/or artificial sweeteners (both cause inflammation leading to chronic diseases).

Fruit juice, whether it's commercially produced or juicing have the essential fiber stripped from the  final product. Without this key nutrient, your body can't regulate its cleansing processes. Fiber absorbs acids and impurities in the bloodstream and colon. It cleans your insides and stimulates peristalsis (wavelike motion) that moves food from the stomach to the small and large intestines.

Fruit juice and juicing, without the fiber, skin, pulp, and flesh is just sweetness on steroids. This is akin to eating 4 carrots, 2-3 beets, 3 or 4 apples/oranges at one sitting which you most likely would never do. Juicing also removes the nutrients that bind to fiber. Massive sweetness without nutrients and fiber can spike your blood sugar just like soda.

Health Tips  Juicing has helped many people, however the pulp which contains all the nutrients and fiber needs to be saved and used rather than put in the compost. You can use the pulp to make flatbreads, nutrient rich cookies, or add to your green smoothies or other foods.

DIY Green smoothies retain all the nutrients needed by your body. If you buy your smoothies, ask about added sugar before you consume. If you're healthy, you can juice once a week if you're also consuming platefuls of greens and veggies, and a few fruits. Plant based real whole food in its natural state is the best food for your buck and your health.
