Food Fraud: 10 Counterfeit Products We Commonly Consume

Food Fraud: 10 Counterfeit Products We Commonly Consume | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it

Coffee, olive oil and fish are just some of the adulterated and intentionally mislabeled foods regularly passed off as something they’re not.

In a country where we have relatively strict labeling regulations, many food manufacturers still manage to swindle shoppers by adding fillers or diluting the real deal with less expensive ingredients, without the knowledge of the consumer. And in fact, it’s become so prevalent that the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention, a nonprofit that sets standards used by the FDA, set up a database to track the infractions. Called the Food Fraud Database (FFD), it describes food fraud as the "deliberate substitution, addition, tampering or misrepresentation of food, food ingredients or food packaging, or false or misleading statements made about a product for economic gain." It has a shocking number of entries.

Sandi Cornez's insight:

Good catches. Best advice: be discerning when you shop. Read labels carefully. Buy organic. Do research on brands you're not familiar with. Purchase fresh foods as often as possible. You can make your own orange juice.

Researchers have finally discovered the key to naturally stripping sugar from all our foods | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
The global sugar-industrial complex is about to face a serious challenge—from a mushroom. A young start-up based out of Aurora, Colorado is poised to disrupt how sugar is used in packaged goods. Three years after its founding, MycoTechnology is not yet a formidable force in the competitive food space, but its founders have forged deals with some of the larges
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know there's a new player in town which may give the sugar industry a run for its money? The new player turns out to be a mushroom which is from the fungi family known as Mycelium.

MycoTechnology is the new startup which is making waves with some of the largest food companies in the world. This new company, based in Aurora, CO aims to change how sugar is used in packaged food.

Food scientists have been working for years to figure out how to keep products tasting great while cutting back on sugar. Don't freak just yet, but apparently invisible fungi molecules will be on your tastebuds while you chew the packaged food.

MycoTechnology has figured out a way to block naturally occurring bitter flavors that food companies use sugar to mask. The company is calling its creation a "bitter blocker". Read the full article for all the details.

Health Tips:  Consuming invisible fungi molecules is most likely much better than consuming boatloads of sugars, artificial sweeteners, fructose and the like. However, just keep in mind that these packaged foods are still refined processed foods. from many of the same food companies that have used deceptive advertising/marketing practices to get you to purchase their products.

The packaged food may contain less sugar or no sugar, but still contain ingredients that your body can't use for its necessary functions like additives, chemicals, and GMOs. Refined processed non foods are not your friends. Resolve to eliminate or reduce drastically your consumption of any sugar. Your health, your life depends on it.

Eat more medicinal mushrooms with greens and veggies. Eat more bitter tasting foods as these foods have more nutrients.. Biologically you have the same body as your cave ancestors did.

Beverage Industry Finds Friend Inside U.S. Health Agency

Beverage Industry Finds Friend Inside U.S. Health Agency | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that it's up to you to take back your health?  Conflicts of interest abound in the world of Big Food as well as in other industries. You are responsible for doing your due diligence when it comes to knowing what's in the food/beverage you are consuming  and who's funding each study about health/nutritional  benefits.

Most people in the U.S.  think that American  health agencies are on their side, especially the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Well guess what, it's time to think again. Read the full article.

Health Tips:  Sugar and all its derivatives, especially fructose are not your friend. Big soda companies and their allies and lobbyists in Congress and elsewhere are only interested in their bottom line. And you, the purchaser are left holding the can (the can filled with chronic disease, obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, and more sickness).

One gets that many of you for some odd reason like the taste of these beverages; otherwise why would you subject your body time and time again to these poison filled cans. Why, especially when there are much better alternatives available for you to try.

You might consider trying something new, even sparkling water, teas, filtered pure water with lemon/lime slices, or frozen berries. Perrier water, and carbonated water drinks seem to be the rage right now for some people. You can also DIY for healthy sodas. Recipes online.

Why Splenda Is Worse for You Than Sugar

Why Splenda Is Worse for You Than Sugar | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Why Splenda is worse for your health and your gut than traditional sugar
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that sugar whether organic or not, artificial sugars like Splenda, high fructose corn syrup (now called fructose), and other sugar derivatives are all harmful for your body when consumed in excess? All sugars are sweet poisons which cause chronic disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's disease.

Sugar is a highly addictive substance, which has been shown to be more addictive than cocaine. Sugar causes changes in your brain identical to those with drug and alcohol addiction. Artificial sweeteners have been poisoning brains for years.

Artificial sweeteners have been shown to disrupt your gut flora that inhabit your digestive tracts. According to Dr. Robert Lustig, it's wise to avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners because they also increase your risk of multiple myeloma.

Health Tips:  As you know by now, it's wise to avoid, eliminate, and drastically cut back on your sugar, artificial sweetener, fructose consumption. Fructose goes directly to your liver and is stored as fat. Your brain isn't getting the hormone leptin which tells it you're full. You keep eating because you can't stop. That's an excellent reason to not consume any refined processed non food.

Eat plant based real whole food with fiber. Your body requires fiber to function. Sugar, artificial sweeteners have no fiber. Eat your complex carbs, veggies/fruits, nuts/seeds, legumes (beans, lentils, peas) which are loaded with essential fiber. fiber helps move the food you consume through your body faster.

Diet Soda and Diabetes: Things to Consider

Diet Soda and Diabetes: Things to Consider | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Diet soda does not contain sugar, but is it good for people with diabetes? This articles gives information on diet soda, sweeteners and alternatives.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that any form of excessive sugar consumption creates a metabolic disaster in your body and brain? Whether you’re eating large amounts of table sugar, artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, now known as fructose, or alternative healthier sweeteners (grade B maple syrup, coconut sugar, dried fruits), your body can’t handle the massive ingestion of sugar.

If you add in highly refined processed non food with its own set of baggage, large amounts of breads, pasta,  and white potatoes, you’re  priming your body/brain for chronic diseases (prediabetes, diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity), cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease).

Today more people are waking up to the dangers of drinking liquid calories; sodas, sugar sweetened juices, coffee shop drinks, and other sugar laden beverages. Make your own healthier beverages and/or add organic liquid Stevia (a few drops) to your own no sugar drinks.

Stevia is 300 times sweeter than sugar so just a few drops is sweet enough.

Health Tips: If you’re healthy, you can eat real whole fruit  for your sweet treat or add tiny amounts of organic grade B maple syrup, dried fruit (dates, raisins, figs), or coconut sugar. Add in carob, cinnamon, and vanilla bean for more sweet flavor. Or for a different flavor add small amounts of cayenne and 1 organic date.

If you have one or several chronic diseases, please consider avoiding or reducing any sugar. To stop your sugar cravings, take 4-5 tabs of chlorella (high protein). Remember sugar is not your friend.

If only this awesome news about candy weren’t funded by the sugar industry

If only this awesome news about candy weren’t funded by the sugar industry | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Next time you read about a study that delivers sweet health news about some junky foodstuff, take it with a grain of salt.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that often the sugar industry publishes information about studies about sugar? This is similar to when the Dairy council or the Beef producers  promote the so called health benefits of their industry.  Many studies are published about food, science, and health which have  been funded by people with conflicting interests. Read them and then do more research to get the truth of the study.

As you've read many times on this site and in other articles/posts; sugar is an addictive sweet poison that when consumed in excess messes with your brain, gut, and body. Sugar feeds and causes cancer.

With sugar and artificial sweeteners, there is no moderation. This  is junk food and when you continually eat it, it creates chronic inflammation which leads to prediabetes, diabetes, heart disease, and depression, metabolic syndrome (obesity, fatty liver disease), and Alzheimer's disease.

Excess consumption of sugar puts your body on a metabolic roller coaster with mood swings which affect your behavior, attitude, thinking, decision making, and focus. Heard of brain fog?

You're ten times more bacteria than you are cells in your body. Your gut bacteria regulate your neurochemistry, metabolism, and moods. When they get sick, so do you.

Today there are numerous threats to your health from sugar, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, OTC drugs, antibiotics, drugs, proton pump inhibitors, fluoride, GMOs, chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, toxins, factory farming, and the list goes on. Sign petitions for change, call your Legislators, write them. Vote with your fork. Demand change.

Health Tips: Do the best you can in regard to the food you consume, the water you drink, the air you breathe, the beauty/cosmetic products you use, the furniture/household items you purchase. Change what you can to a healthier alternative. Check out Environmental Working Group (EWG), Center for Food Safety, Food and Water Watch on social media.

Eat berries and other fruit for your sweet. Add organic liquid Stevia a few drops, to your healthy desserts. Stevia is 300 times sweeter than sugar so very little works fine. If you're healthy, add a little Grade B organic maple syrup, a few dates, or small amount of organic coconut sugar to your baking recipes.

When you begin eating less sugar or any other unhealthy food, and eventually eliminate from your meals  you'll notice your tastebuds have changed and you won't want to eat this much too sweet sugar. Give it about three weeks and you'll notice a definite difference.

To stop your sugar cravings eat organic chlorella tabs - high protein. And do begin to consume organic plant based real whole foods with dark leafy greens every day which will begin to help detox your system.

Where Does Sugar Hide? - Hippocrates Health Institute

Where Does Sugar Hide? - Hippocrates Health Institute | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Where Does Sugar Hide? By far the largest source of added sugars (which includes both table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup) in the North American diet comes from sugar-sweetened beverages—soft drinks, sports drinks, energy drinks, and tea and coffee to which sweeteners have been added. Statistics paint a large part of this disturbing health story. …
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that there's no coincidence between the dramatic rise of obesity and diabetes in the U.S. since the 1980's and consumption of sugar sweetened beverages? North Americans are ingesting huge amounts of liquid calories which are fueling the chronic inflammation epidemic.

Health tips: Guess what? Alcohol, and not just beer contain sugar too. Read the article to find out what happens if you exercise before having an alcoholic drink.

Fructose as you know from reading this site is worse than sucrose (table sugar). Fructose goes directly to your liver. Eat ripe fruit if you're healthy. Use liquid Stevia sweeten with a few drops for desserts. Stevia is 300 times sweeter than sugar and comes from a plant.

11 Weird Things Sugar Does to Your Body

11 Weird Things Sugar Does to Your Body | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Sugar might help you get through those hill sprints, but in excess, this sweet carb wreaks a bunch of not-so-great stuff throughout your body.

Via Institute for Responsible Nutrition
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that excessive sugar consumption causes a cascade of metabolic injury to your body? Most people are now ingesting about 20 or more teaspoons/day or 150 pounds of sugar/year. This is insane.

Your body wasn't designed to handle the insulin spike that happens very quickly when you eat highly refined processed food stuff loaded with hidden sugars, high fructose corn syrup, and/or artificial sweeteners. Back in the Paleolithic days, your human ancestors ate starches aka complex carbs in the form of tubers, roots, fruits, and veggies.

Mother Nature is smart as she developed taste buds to detect the presence of starch. Starch was very important as it was a fuel supply. It released glucose into the bloodstream slowly. And here's the catch. The taste buds detecting the sweet taste of starch covered two-thirds of the tongue.

For the hunter-gatherers detecting sweet starch was critical for fuel and it also helped them with food safety. Poisonous plants are never sweet. But you and millions of other people live in a different age where sucrose (table sugar) is digested by enzymes in saliva and raise glucose levels in a few seconds. And the supply is unlimited.

Being on a sugar roller coaster not only ages you, but causes chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's disease. Sugar affects all your organs, including your brain. You may experience mood swings, brain fog, poor memory, fatigue, anxiety,  headaches, and depression.

Health tips: Isn't it time to switch from sickness to zestful-living? Try plant based real whole food and eliminate or greatly reduce your intake of sugar and all its derivatives. Learn to make your own food and avoid highly processed non food stuff.

Grow your own sprouts, eat more dark leafy greens, add some algae, sea veggies to the mix. Eat ripe fruit if you're healthy and eat more veggies, legumes, nuts, seeds, and some whole grains. The more of these types of food you consume, the more your taste buds will crave these plant foods.

The Sugar Cancer Connection Doctors Aren't Telling You

The Sugar Cancer Connection Doctors Aren't Telling You | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
What is the harm of sugar addiction? Get the truth about the sugar cancer connection and why it contributes to diabetes, obesity, and declining health.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that no matter what you call it,  sugar and all its derivates, including hybrid fruit (unripe) when over consumed can be deadly to your health?  Sugar feeds and causes cancer.

Many of you  use agave from the plant thinking this is a better alternative. Think again. Agave is 50-55% fruit sugar, but the way it's eaten today it becomes 90% fructose. There is no raw agave, And no matter the name, fructose is still fructose. It goes straight to your liver and stresses your pancreas, heart, and liver.

Here's some interesting facts for you. Table sugar is called sucrose. White sugar is 50% both sucrose and glucose. Brown sugar is the same. Maple syrup is 60% sucrose. Xylitol is essentially the same. It comes from white birch trees. Honey is 30% sucrose and 40% fructose. Date sugar is similiar. Coconut sugar is 70% sucrose and 30% glucose. this information comes from Dr Brian Clement, Nutritionist,  Hippocrates Health Institute.

Health tips:  A little of any so called healthy sugar goes a long way. If you are healthy with no chronic diseases, no candida, then eating whole fruit is best. Use liquid organic, non-GMO Stevia in teeny amounts for your beverages, desserts.

Are you aware that when you eat potatoes, pasta, and bread, you're eating sugar?  Same with grains. Soak and sprout your grains like quinoa, buckwheat, millet. You can even sprout your greens and drink the juice.

Do Artificial Sweeteners Affect Blood Sugar and Insulin? | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it

Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that when you avoid buying processed food, you can completely eradicate consumption of artificial sweeteners and other sugar derivatives? the reason is two-fold. Sugar and its derivatives feed and cause cancer and other chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Artificial sweeteners and other sugar derivatives are prevalent in almost every highly refined processed food.

Are you aware that Aspartame is associated with an increased risk of depression? A number of studies have shown a correlation between artificial sweetener use and weight gain.

8 Deceiving Names for High Fructose Corn Syrup

8 Deceiving Names for High Fructose Corn Syrup | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
The food industry is attempting to hide the ingredient "high fructose corn syrup" from the public by renaming it “fructose.”
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that food manufacturers are trying to fool you again by changing the name of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) to just "fructose"?  "Fructose" manufactured this way is still HFCS and not the same as fruit which also contains fructose.

Fruit has essential fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals in addition to the fructose. The fiber helps to slow down the rate of fructose entering your bloodstream. Just remember to eat fruit in moderation and not eat for example four apples or bananas at one time.

Sugar and its derivatives feed and cause cancer as well as cause your blood sugar to spike, malnourish your brain and lead to chronic diseases.

Health tips:  Be sure to read labels carefully. If anyone of the substituted names or just sugar is listed in the first five ingredients, buy another product. If possible, reduce your consumption of processed food and buy ingredients to make your own plant based meals.

Ten foods that CLAIM to be healthy that are packed with sugar and fat

Ten foods that CLAIM to be healthy that are packed with sugar and fat | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Australian dietitian Alison Ginn has revealed the top 10 foods you think are healthy that are actually bad for you, including 'healthy' flavoured water, breakfast biscuits and low-fat yoghurt.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that big food manufacturers play sneaky word tricks on packaged processed food to deceive you into buying their product/brand? Don't be fooled or your health will suffer as a result. Fight back with your purse/wallet. Get in the habit of learning their lingo so you know the difference between "fake-food-speak" and real whole plant based food-truth.

Health Tips:  Anything with the words "sugar, HFCS, sugar free, ending in ose" are to be avoided. Sugar and its derivatives (artificial, hidden) feed and cause cancer, cause your blood sugar to spike, malnourish your brain, and are connected to so many of today's epidemics. Your best bet is to opt for whole fruit.

What about vitamin water, fruit juice, gatorade, energy drinks you ask. Skip all of them. Again sugar and all sorts of chemical additives, toxins, and tons of caffeine are lurking inside that fancy dressed up bottle, can, or cup. Just drink real filtered water, homemade green juice with lots of fresh ginger root and one fruit. If you want coffee, make it yourself and take a thermos to work. Same with tea. Many of the commercial teas are loaded with GMOs. Buy loose leaf certified organic.

Skip anything fried because you really don't know what oil was used and of course the same pan is always used. Pan fry or sauté in camelina oil which has the highest smoke point and is rich in omega-3s. Healthy fat is good for you. Stay away from vegetable oils like corn, soybean, cottonseed, safflower, fake canola as these are GMO derived and contain omega 6s. Consuming too many omega 6 fats and not enough omega 3s causes inflammation.

Stay away from yogurts filled with GMOs and sugar. You can make your own yogurt with any of these plant based foods: coconut meat, coconut flakes, buckwheat (ancient grain), or raw nuts and use a high quality probiotic. Add fresh cut up fruit or chia seeds.

Do you like vegetable chips? Make your own and bake them or dehydrate them. You can make beet, sweet potato, kale, carrot, squash chips using camelina oil and nutritional yeast. Absolutely delicious.

Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that  a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health conducted by the University of Texas found what we already have known for years that high sugar consumption and the Standard American diet (SAD) are directly linked to cancer and other chronic diseases? Time to wean yourself off your sugar habit.

Sugar is connected to so many of today's epidemics from diabetes, heart disease, obesity, metabolic disorder, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, dementia, to cancer. The SAD is composed of non food, toxic chemicals, hidden sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

This high dose of sugar affects your brain as it becomes malnourished and shrinks. Imbalanced chemicals in the brain can express themselves in symptoms such as moodiness to brain fog, difficulty concentrating, to depression, rage, and instability.

Health tips:  Try to avoid these foods: sugar, artificial sweeteners, gluten as in wheat, simple carbs (white flour, commercial baked goods, boxed popcorn, salad dressings, etc), dairy, processed food, alcohol, soda, energy drinks, and too much caffeine.

Is Coconut Sugar the Perfect Alternative Sweetener? | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
It may taste great, but coconut sugar may not live up to all of its health claims.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that many so called superfoods like coconut sugar do not live up to their hype? Agave is in this category as well as it is highly processed and is 55% fruit sugar,  but the way it's processed it becomes 90% fructose. According to Brian Clement, Nutritionist, Director of Hippocrates Health Institute, there is no raw agave.

With sugar and in any form there is no such thing as moderation b/c most people today, maybe you , love sweets and have considerable difficulty using very small amounts. Our culture has been conditioned for too many years now to want convenience. Food manufacturers answer was to create food with the essential fiber stripped out, synthetic vitamins added, artificial sweeteners, added sugar, sodium, additives, GMOs, and other toxic ingredients created in a lab.

Quite a number of years ago people consumed about 20 teaspoonfuls of sugar a year. Today adults including kids consume about 140-150 pounds of sugar a year, most of it from highly refined processed non foods/beverages and added sugars while diabetes has increased over 700 percent. Are you beginning to see the overall picture?

In contrast and basically with the same body, your cavemen ancestors ate nature made wild bitter greens, starchy tubers and roots. Your body just isn't equipped to handle the onslaught of a metabolic disaster.

Your cells use glucose with much of it burned up after you consume it. Your liver only has to break down about 20% of it. There is a completely different story with fructose.

Your cells don't use fructose for energy. 100% of the fructose you eat  goes directly to your liver. Your liver is the only organ that has a special fructose transporter. Fructose isn't used as a quick energy source. It gets stored in your liver as fat. Fructose metabolism causes all sorts of  toxic effects in your body from high blood pressure to gout including  chronic diseases, cancer, and alzheimer's disease.

Health Tips:  If you're healthy you can eat ripe fruit and/or use organic liquid Stevia in teeny amounts  for your raw plant based treats or baked goodies. Stevia is 300 times sweeter than sugar so a few drops does the trick nicely, If you use coconut sugar, grade B maple syrup, date paste, please use in very small amounts. Add cinnamon, carob, vanilla bean and/or a touch of cayenne/maca for added taste sensations.

Make sure you take enough magnesium to complement the magnesium you get from consuming real whole plant based food. Reduce and/or eliminate the sugar and add in healthy fats including avocados and raw nuts/seeds. For heavy duty sugar cravings, up your magnesium and take  4-5 tabs of high protein organic chlorella (not from China or Japan).

Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that aspartame, the artificial sweetener that is harmful for your body and brain was approved by the FDA even while knowing it was unsafe for human consumption? Time and time again this agency approves substances that are suspect and often untested, ingredients that are many times banned in other countries, yet given the green light in the U.S. The FDA works hand in hand with the pharmaceutical companies to your detriment.

Aspartame is a known neurotoxin, chemical sweetener that been shown to cause detrimental changes within your brain and your gut.  Aspartame affects your brain, appetite, micro biome, and increases the risk for Diabetes. Fructose causes genetic changes in the brain that increases risk of disease

Fructose causes genetic changes in the brain that increases risk of disease | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
(NaturalHealth365) Scientists have discovered that fructose can threaten memory areas of the brain and overall wellbeing by altering our genetics.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that high fructose corn syrup is now called fructose and either way fructose created in a lab is just about the worst so called food you can consume? Fructose goes directly to your liver and is seven (7) times more harmful than sucrose (table sugar).

Your liver metabolizes fructose differently than it does with sucrose. Fructose in the liver turns to fat. It doesn't stop leptin, a hormone that tells your brain you're full. So when you'r brain doesn't get the signal that your stomach is full, your brain thinks you're starving and you keep on consuming food. Only the food you're eating is what's creating the problem in the first place.

Fructose is a sweet poison like sucrose and with excessive comsumption which leads to major inflammation and chronic disease. A little history. High Fructose Corn Syrup was created in Japan in 1966. In 1980 it entered the food market and found its way into almost every processed food.

Health tips:  Reduce or eliminate all sugars. Your body needs fiber. Eat your fruit (fiber rich) with some plant protein and healthy fat like nuts,  The sugar in fruit is natural fructose. And in this arena there's differing camps on how much fruit one might consume if the person is unhealthy. Check with a doctor who is trained in nutrition if you have questions.

Please take plant based sources of DHA (refer to this article). DHA is an omega 3 fatty acid. Most all sources of fish have been mercury poisoned. Plus high consumption of fish has been shown to increase cognitive decline. Check Dr Michael Greger, www.nutritionfacts.org videos.

5 Reasons Diet Soda Is Even Worse Than You Thought

5 Reasons Diet Soda Is Even Worse Than You Thought | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
If you’ve quit regular soda, bravo! But research shows diet soda may be just as bad.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that whenever you read the word "Diet" on a processed food label, then you need to smile and walk away? You've just saved yourself money and more importantly, you've given your body a chance to heal.

The word "Diet" on any processed food is a tactical marketing ploy from food corporations who want to suck you into continually buying their products. Most of these "diet" laden products contain hidden sugars in the form of artificial sweeteners which have been shown to cause detrimental changes within your brain and your gut.

Seriously folks, why would any of you want anything that is artificial, and in food yet? Sugar, artificial sweeteners (Aspartame, Sucralose, Equal), highly refined processed non food stuff decimate your gut by creating damage in your body.

Quitting Sugar Is as Tough as Kicking a Cocaine Habit

Quitting Sugar Is as Tough as Kicking a Cocaine Habit | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
According to a pair of studies by the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, quitting sugar can be as tough for people as giving up cocaine.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know the awful truth about sugar? Yes excessive daily consumption of sugar aka sweet poison is slowing killing you. Sugar alters the chemistry in your brain so you crave more and more of it to get that sugar "high" taste/feeling. Sound familiar?

Sugar causes a vicious never ending rollar coaster ride for your body/brain with the end result being you are hooked. A cascade of inflammatory pain and suffering awaits as you become obese, have blood sugar spikes, become insulin resistant, blood flow in your arteries become blocked and a host of chronic diseases settle in for a long long stay.

Health Tips:  Wake up and smell the roses, taste what food is meant to taste like, and make a concerted effort to not allow yourself to go down this road. Yes everyone who has tasted sweets like it.  The taste buds to detect sweet taste covers two-thirds of your tongue.

Does this mean you have to eat sugary processed food all day long? No. If you're still relatively healthy, then learn to say no to your eyes when you shop. If it's not in your home, you're less tempted to indulge. Eating green protein as in chlorella can help you to help your body stop your sugar cravings.

If you're already addicted to sugar big time, find a functional/integrative medical doctor to help you get off your sugar habit safely. You can get well and when you do, you'll never want anything to do with this sweet poison again.

Are You Addicted to Sugar? - UC Davis Integrative Medicine

Are You Addicted to Sugar? - UC Davis Integrative Medicine | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Are you addicted to sugar? We are here today to explore the issue and take a closer look at sugar’s addictive qualities and give you some tips on ho
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that sugar is an addictive substance which causes changes in your brain's chemistry similar to what happens with drug use? Sugar stimulates the pleasure and reward center of your brain by increasing levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. The more you consume this sweet poison, the dopamine sensitivity diminishes and you need to eat more each time to feel the same pleasure/reward.

Consuming this much sugar and/or all its derivatives, including processed food stuff,  containing hidden sugars, and artificial sweeteners sets your body up for a metabolic disaster. Your body was never designed to handle the onslaught of sugar consumption.

Sugar is acidic, feeds and causes cancer and other chronic diseases including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, and Alzheimer's.

Health Tips:  Consume plant based real whole food. Eliminate processed non food stuff. Eat more root veggies like carrots, beets, and swet potatoes to get your sweet taste. When making desserts add in vanilla bean, cinnamon, carob, a tiny drop or two of organic liquid Stevia, or a small amount of grade B organic maple syrup. Consume some ripe fruit if you are healthy. Remember to drink filtered water throughout your day. Add a lemon/lime slice or a drop of liquid Stevia to your filtered water.

If you're just starting to change your eating habits, understand that your taste buds will adapt as you begin phasing out sugar and processed non food. It takes about three weeks or so. Don't beat yourself up if you consume sugar. Just continue on your wellness path.

If You Cut One Thing From Your Diet, Make It Ultra-Processed Foods | Care2 Healthy Living

If You Cut One Thing From Your Diet, Make It Ultra-Processed Foods | Care2 Healthy Living | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Americans are getting most of their calories and sugar from a specific type of food. Almost 60 percent of all calories and 90 percent of all added sugar in a
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that any type of sugar is harmful for your body including hybrid fruit that is grown today? Hybrid fruit which is picked before it's ripe has thirty (30) times more sugar than original grown fruit.

U.S. adults consume about 150 pounds in a year while children consume about 200 pounds. These are scary statistics and especially when you consider how many of these adults and kids are getting chronic diseases including diabetes, heart disease, and obesity much earlier in their life.

Highly processed non food stuffs contain these sweet poisons as well as dangerous chemicals, additives, and pesticides. Think GMO which have never been tested by any agency of the government.

Health Tips:  If you are healthy you can eat organic ripe fruit. If you have a chronic disease, avoid all sugar (table sugar, aka sucrose, high fructose corn syrup aka HFCS, hidden sugars, and artificial sweeteners, plus avoid unripe fruit. According to Dr Brian Clement, Hippocrates Health Institute, "when you remove sugar from sick people, they improve".

Are you aware that fructose is metabolized in your liver and is more fat producing?  Fructose acts like fat in your body, reducing much needed oxygen.  Insulin doesn't get produced and the  hormones leptin and grehlin don't function properly. Leptin tells your brain you're full, stop eating, but it fails to work when you consume fructose. Your brain thinks you're starving even though you're full, and so you continue eating.

Do you like wine? Well consider, wine has massive amounts of sugar. Try opting for organic green tea or filtered water with half a drop of liquid organic Stevia. Stevia, a plant  is a safe alternative which is 300 times sweeter than sugar. Because it's so much sweeter use just a tiny amount to avoid an aftertaste.

Here's another tip for you. When you feel the craving to have sweets, chew four (4) tiny Chlorella pills which will take away that craving. Chlorella is an algae. Algae is very good for your health.

Highly refined processed foods which have all the fiber and other nutrients stripped out and replaced with added vitamins and chemicals are oh so very bad for your body. Here is why Aspartame is the Most Dangerous Substance Added to our Food Supply. | Dangers of sugar consumption | Scoop.it
Here is the reason why Aspartame (and other artificial sweeteners) can make you sick and diabetic.
Sandi Cornez's insight:

Did you know that artificial sweeteners as well as sugar, fructose, and hidden sugars found in highly refined processed non food cause inflammation and chronic diseases? These are all sweet poisons which are addictive at high levels of consumption.

From this new study published in 2014, comes the research that  found that "depending on your gut microbes , you are either able to handle artificial sweeteners, or you react to them in a negative way".  The view that the artificial sweeteners couldn't be digested has radically changed.

Health Tips:  Liquid Stevia is a far better replacement for your beverages. Use small amounts of organic grade B maple syrup and dried fruits for your homemade nutrient dense desserts. Or just eat a few pieces of organic fruit.
