At Ten Penny, bar is well-stocked, but diners need to bring a discerning eye to the menu | Dangers of Fast Food | Scoop.it
Ten Penny debuted in December at the corner of 10th Street and Penn Avenue, well-positioned across from the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and at the edge of the Cultural District's booming restaurant corridor. It's a good-looking place. During a recent Friday lunch, diners relaxed in stylish gray leather banquettes by the windows as March Madness played on TVs over the bar. Floor to ceiling shelves -- stacked with boxes of kosher salt, red stock pots and Ball canning jars -- create a dining room room-within-a-room, with farmhouse tables atop adjustable steel legs. Some parents are actually "proud" of their child's weight, and brag about feeding them Happy Meals. This also shows America's lack of education on the obesity epidemic and how our nation is poorly represented by these individuals who see nothing wrong with this crisis among children.

Lift the cloak of secrecy around this E coli outbreak

Lift the cloak of secrecy around this E coli outbreak | Dangers of Fast Food | Scoop.it

An eight-month outbreak of an uncommon type of E coli food poisoning left 250 people ill and one dead, with cases continuing to emerge until July of this year – but the public has only been told now. After six months of investigation by the Health Protection Agency, which has only just acknowledged the outbreak, the infection has ultimately been linked to people handling loose raw leeks and potatoes in their homes.

This article makes you kind of afraid to go out to eat and eat meat. You never really know if the meat is affected or not until after you eat it. Although, I do think meat should be checked if it is completely cooked before serving it. I know I do not want to die from eating infected meat.

Tami Yaklich's comment, March 20, 2013 8:26 AM
"Every day, nearly one-third of U.S. children ages 4 to 19 eat fast food, which likely packs on about six extra pounds per child per year, and increases the risk of obesity, a study of 6,212 youngsters found."
Tami Yaklich's comment, March 20, 2013 8:28 AM
Use ethos - Dr. David Ludwig, director of the obesity program at Children's Hospital Boston - blames the link between fast food and kids on advertising that targets children.
Tami Yaklich's comment, March 20, 2013 8:28 AM
Studies show that kids who eat fast food consume more sugar and carbs than kids who eat home-cooked meals.

Can the Federal Government Regulate Fast-food Industry?

Can the Federal Government Regulate Fast-food Industry? | Dangers of Fast Food | Scoop.it

After Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation was published in 2001 and became a New York Times bestseller, the movie with the same title and other food-related documentaries such as "Super Size Me" (2004) and "Food Inc." (2009) became smash hits, which may reflect the enhancement of people's awareness of healthy food in the last decade. However, an article in Time Magazine Online shows that today's food situation in the U.S. has not improved since then. It has even become worse. Especially a social problem like the relation between childhood obesity and fast food draws more people's attentions...

Fast food, particularly food from McDonald's does not decay as "normal" food does. Also, you have to plan a trip to the gym after each value meal you consume just to ensure you don't gain weight from that one meal. It's been proven that dog food might be healthier than fast food.
