My Scoop | Dams and their capabilities | Scoop.it

While the Three Gorges Dam has many helpful oppurtunities for China, it has many environmental and economical drawbacks. There have been millions of people forced to relocate to new homes because the massive dam. Also, the dam went way over the budget that the Chinese Government origanlly set for it. There have been good impacts thoughs such as the energy and power it has given to China.

Some negative drawbacks are the fact that so many people have gotten relocated. Not only have the original people had to leave, but more and more people are being relocated due to massive landslides and banks collapsing. Also, the reservoir is very polluted which is casuing warmer water temperatures. Also the cost to build the Three Gorges Dam was very high.

The posiitves of the Three Gorges Dam are the energy it has harnassed. It has solved an energy crises that was in much need of a solution. During the flood season, the dam can harnass as much energy as 14 nuclear powerplants. Also, the energy produced will even out the price of the original dam.

Danger May Force Thousands To Move From Three Gorges Dam

Danger May Force Thousands To Move From Three Gorges Dam | Dams and their capabilities | Scoop.it

Even more people may be forced to leave the area surrounding the Three Gorges Dam.  When the river and dam reached full capacity there was a series of serious landslides and bank collapses.  This would add roughly 100,000 people to the list of people forced to relocate after the dam was created.

While The Three Gorges Dam is a successful energy project, it has caused many environmental problems.  Many factories have been submerged which has caused trash and other pollutants to flow into the reservoir.

Three Gorges Dam Fully Operational

Three Gorges Dam Fully Operational | Dams and their capabilities | Scoop.it

The Three Gorges Dam is a Dam on the Yangtze River in China.  It is the worlds largest power station.  It forced 1.4 million people to relocate and caused a shift in China's geology.  With these problems, come rewards. It has the power equivalance of 14 nuclear powerplants.

The three gorges dam displays the extraordinary things man can do to manipulate the environment.  This man made dam also shows how much technology influences our geographic space.
