This article emphasizes the importance of deciding to be happy.  In the eyes of the author, if one is intent on being happy, then no matter the situation, they will end up being happy.  This is a simply concept that can be applied outside of happiness.  We can also choose to be more loving, spiritual, and hard-working.

As a straight, white man, it is easy to ask what this article has to do with me and my life.  However, the reasoning in this article (not all of which I agree with) points to some similar arguments that I have made on this particular social issue and others like it.

In an online editorial, the editors of Christianity Today have gone on the record against spanking. The subtitle of the article says that “misuse of biblical teaching on discipline can have deadly consequences.” The editors then go on to list several instances of fatal child abuse that have been linked to parents who take a literal interpretation of scriptural passages on discipline.

This article takes a very macro-level look at the topic of spanking as a form of parental punishment and what the Bible says about it.  These opinions are probably those that were shared by my parents as I was growing up.

I’m not sure if this particular article belongs under a Christian collection of articles, but I do appreciate the sentiment that it conveys. Most people try to do their best to make life better for themselves and their friends and families, but Christian’s have a special imperative to fight moral and cultural entropy.
