Is It Plagiarism or Collaboration?

Is It Plagiarism or Collaboration? | Teacher Tech Tools | Scoop.it

Perhaps instead of focusing our concerns on technology as a wonderful aid to plagiarizers, we should focus on its ability to foster creativity and collaboration, and then ask ourselves (we are the clever adults here) how we can incorporate those elements into our formalized assessments.

Is It Plagiarism or Collaboration?
Bibhya Sharma's curator insight, February 21, 8:05 PM

There is a very thin line between plagiarism and collaboration where group assessments are concerned. I also feel that in this digital age, the type of assessments, activities and questions should be re-defined and reworked. I also try to provide "wrappers" in the class especially on ethics.

How To Weave Growth Mindset Into School Culture - Mind/Shift

How To Weave Growth Mindset Into School Culture - Mind/Shift | Teacher Tech Tools | Scoop.it
“ Adilene Rodriguez admits she has always struggled with academics. Especially in middle school she hated getting up early, found her classes boring and didn’t really see where it was all going. When she started her freshman year at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, California, just south of Oakland, she was a shy student who rarely spoke up in class and had little confidence in herself as a scholar. Rodriguez is now a senior and her approach to school has changed dramatically over her high school career. She attributes her shift to her freshman science teacher, Jim Clark, who taught the class about growth mindset from the very beginning and backed up the discussion with action. “He would tell me, ‘You need to push yourself, that’s how you’re going to grow. Be confident. You’re not always going to be successful on your first tries, but you can get there,’ ” Rodriguez said”

Carol Dweck"s book Mindset is a great resource for teachers who want to learn more about this topic.

Allan Shaw's curator insight, June 15, 10:29 PM
"She also tries hard to model a growth mindset to her students by being open about her own struggles as a parent and a teacher. “They’re not used to teachers apologizing,” Rodgers said. “But I tell them I’m going to make mistakes all the time. And I think showing that helps them realize they can actually make mistakes.” When teachers and administrators say they want kids to have a growth mindset, the school environment has to back up that rhetoric. At Arroyo, the emphasis on growth mindset came alongside a shift to standards-based grading. Kids can see that mistakes along the way aren’t negatively affecting them and keep working to master the concepts. “When you believe it; they believe,” Rodgers said. “If I didn’t believe this, they wouldn’t buy what I’m selling.”"

5 Ways to Launch Your Genius Hour Projects to the World - A.J. JULIANI

5 Ways to Launch Your Genius Hour Projects to the World - A.J. JULIANI | Teacher Tech Tools | Scoop.it

"In the past couple of weeks, I’ve been asked the same question multiple times after speaking, “Do you still believe Genius Hour and 20% Projects are the best way to engage students?” My initial response was to shout YES, without really thinking about my answer. But, as someone who ran the 20% Project with my students, wrote Genius Hour into our 9th grade English curriculum, has written a book on the subject, and speaks on its merit around the country…I thought it deserved some more thought. My answer, after much reflection, is still YES but with a small hesitation. A Genius Hour or 20% Time Project involves three of the main components that engage students (for clarification purposes, my definition of student engagement is “high attention” and “high commitment” throughout the learning process). The three components are: * Student Choice * Authentic Audience * Intrinsic Reward

When those three traits are present in the learning process students are most likely to have high attention and high commitment."

The Padagogy Wheel - It’s Not About The Apps, It’s About The Pedagogy -

The Padagogy Wheel - It’s Not About The Apps, It’s About The Pedagogy - | Teacher Tech Tools | Scoop.it
The Padagogy Wheel is designed to help educators think – systematically, coherently, and with a view to long term, big-picture outcomes – about how they use mobile apps in their teaching. The Padagogy Wheel is all about mindsets; it’s a way of thinking about digital-age education that meshes together concerns about mobile app features, learning transformation, motivation, cognitive development and long-term learning objectives.

The Padagogy Wheel, though, is not rocket science. It is an everyday device that can be readily used by everyday teachers; it can be applied to everything from curriculum planning and development, to writing learning objectives and designing centered activities. The idea is for the users to respond to the challenges that the Wheel presents for their teaching practices, and to ask themselves the tough questions about their choices and methods.

2016 Must Have List of Apps for IDevices - Digital Sandbox | Teacher Tech Tools | Scoop.it
“ I can’t believe that it was February, 2015 since I came out with a list of Apps that every school should consider having on their idevices. Anyone who has been to the App Store will know all too well the number of apps represent a mountain of options. How do we choose our apps for “THE LIST”? While exploration has its place, we assess all apps against a criteria. I wrote about this process on another blog post. We like a tight list as it leaves plenty of space on the idevice to do actual work, speeds up the efficiency of the device and is easier for staff/students to learn. Besides, who needs 10 audio, image or phonics apps?”
