Forever Young - How to build a longer-lasting human? [VIDEO]

The twenty-first century will be shaped by a revolution in biology that will enable us to read the genetic code of life as easily as we would read a book. We have gained the power to control the destiny of our species and the ability to manipulate and build humans at will. This fascinating new series will take us on an incredible journey into the future of being, and give a glimpse of things to come in the new age.

Forever young - Imagine yourself 150 years old, pregnant and still going strong. Is this scenario the stuff of science fiction? Scientists predict that in fifty years time every organ in the body, except the brain, will be replaceable. Even the heart can be renovated. The future won't just be a healthier short life. The search for eternal life is now being taken seriously. A number of tantalizing and remarkable discoveries indicating how to stop the human body ageing are about to turn science fiction into reality. The key lies inside every cell in our body. Scientists now believe they will be able to extend the human life span to 150 years. Is this the first step of immortality?

...wildcat, how long do you think until dolphins connect to the machine? they ought to be capable of logos, give them AR-lenses and brain-interfaces, and they´ll adapt sapiens writing and language, then they can program and interaction design it to better suit their minds and cognition...

...before biological intelligence manages to create artificial intelligence, we will probably have all sentient intelligence connecting to the machine and redesigning their specialized interfaces for the feedback loops...

...I just thought, since this feels more achievable then AI, there ought to be more discussion going on in these connected times, know of any?...

sort of enjoyed this:

Wildcat2030's comment, September 14, 2012 4:51 AM
Hi Joe, three issues stand in front of these ideas (of which I am much in favor), the scientific ( we do not yet have an advanced enough understanding of neural interfaces ) the technological (having the science is one thing having the the funds to create the correlated tech is quite another) and finally the ethical issue (to my mind the most problematic). in principle I think we can achieve AR for mammals such as dolphins in the next 20yrs(-\+). I am not aware of a particular discussion on this particular topic though the sci-fi Uplift series has a deep understanding of the issues.
