The fight to keep personal information secure over the internet is hastening.

 

According to Dominic Barton, the global managing director at McKinsey & Co., Cyber security does not prevent attacks on our networks. It's not to say that what companies are doing to protect themselves is going to waste, but it is less effective and more needs to be done.

We learn from this article that companies will not stand a chance fighting against cyber-attacks on their own. They must receive support from law enforcements and other policy-makers, to help win the battle.

Black markets that sell computer hacking tools and services like stolen credit card numbers continue to grow, posing a growing hazard to governments, businesses and individuals, a study by RAND Corporation said.

Is this the reason why businesses and individuals are so concerned about having their personal information stolen on the internet?

 

Tools that are used to 'hack' internet services to gain access to other people's private information are becoming more and more accessible. It is not hard these days for someone to gain the necessary tools to become a 'hacker', and this article clearly demonstrates this. It is evident that black markets around the world are having an increasingly devastating impact on modern society.  We as individuals need to be more cautious when entering our personal information on the web and diligent in regularly checking our security settings.

It won't be long now before the United States Department of Justice passes a law whereby they can 'hack' criminal suspects' computers to discover whether or not they have committed a crime.

 

There are many different viewpoints on this topic. Some would say that this is an invasion of privacy, whereas others would say that this is a brilliant idea for catching the 'bad guys'. Personally, I think we should prevent those individuals from committing more crimes, and this is one way in which we can make this possible.
