"Some things never change" is not a quote heard very often in the field of educational technology, where we are constantly striving to stay caught up with the development of everything digital. Still, it can be a very true statement in the classroom.

As a stylus aficionado, I want to let everyone in on a little secret. When it comes to styluses, the tip is almost entirely unimportant – you are going to get the same writing results with almost any stylus.

MediaShift Idea Lab . How to Ditch Big Cameras And Make Films (and Edit Them) with an iPad | PBS | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

The Tiziano Project recently launched our new platform for collaborative storytelling, StoriesFrom. We debuted the platform at the Dokufest International Film Festival in Kosovo, where we simultaneously led a two-week filmmaking workshop taught entirely on the iPad.

While The Tiziano Project has been completing field training programs since 2007, this was first program we have completed using the iPad.

During the program, our students produced five short films that were actually screened at the festival and can be viewed here on StoriesFrom.

How Big a Deal Is Apple's iTunes U Course Manager? | Inside Higher Ed

How Big a Deal Is Apple's iTunes U Course Manager? | Inside Higher Ed | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Have you gotten your head around Apple's iTunes U Course Manager?

Let me explain how I understand Course Manager, as I remain somewhat confusedabout exactly what this does and how big a deal this platform might be.

In the future I expect that the features available in Apple iOS Courses will improve. FaceTime seems like a natural addition - so students and instructors could easily jump into a video chat when spending time with the educational content. Some sort of assessment and survey engine should be a relatively straightforward addition. Perhaps Apple will add polling, so the iOS Course can be used to complement a face-to-face class.

Despite these challenges, I see the evolving Course Manager and iTunes U Courses as a compelling development. We have struggled to find a robust way to deliver a combination of text and multimedia curricular content that is organized around a course narrative to mobile devices.

Apple seems to be offering us, or at least those of us fully in the Apple universe, a solution.

Voice Dictation on the new iPad is getting better and better and is now a favorite feature.

Voice Dictation on the iPad has steadily grown on me and is now one of my favorite features on the new iPad. I’ve always felt that it was a more interesting and useful feature than Siri, but when it first came to the new iPad I just didn’t remember to use it often enough to get great benefit from it.

Learning and Teaching with iPads: Developing iPad learning workflows for best learning outcomes

Learning and Teaching with iPads: Developing iPad learning workflows for best learning outcomes | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Rethinking the approach to learning with an iPad was one of the key points that arose from our recent iPad study tour in Queensland.
Many of the schools talked about the development of 'Learning Workflows' where work is created in one app, then built on in another App and so on.

Using the iPad where many Apps are generally single function, requires a different approach to create useful learning outcomes that moves the integration of the iPad in learning from the Subsitution model to the Redefinition model.

Students publish ed-tech textbook on iBookstore | eSchool News

Students publish ed-tech textbook on iBookstore | eSchool News | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it
At Georgia College, educational technology could spawn more educational technology.

A group of graduate students at the Milledgeville, Ga.-based campus have used Apple’s iBookstore to publish a video- and image-laden eTextbook filled with information and advice for educators hoping to better incorporate technology in their classroom lessons.

The eBook, “Using Technology in Education,” is a student-created textbook available for the iPad and available for free in the iBookstore, which was introduced in January.

Nine graduate students in Associate Professor Chris Greer’s Advanced Technology for Teachers course researched, filmed, and photographed the text and images used in the ed-tech textbook, covering myriad topics from social media use in education and document cameras to advances in assistive technology and eReaders.
