Today, the start of school means it’s time to load up your Mac or iPad with a bunch of new apps. Primary school teacher Tanya Barlow is the ICT coordinator at Warranwood Primary School, in Melbourne’s north-eastern suburbs.

When it comes to apps for students, she looks for “apps that allow students to practise 21st century learning skills such as collaboration, communication and creative thinking – personalised and personal learning that allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding”.

I simply could not help scooping the BaiBoard app (sentiment towards the name of the tool) but I also see it as a perfect tool for real-time presentation of collaborative work done by a group of students. The app offers you a zoomable multi-page whiteboard and lets you collaborate even on PDF documents. And it is free!

Pearletta Wilson's curator insight, August 30, 2013 11:57 AM

Looks interesting - just wonder if it will be useful for our sessions. I'll need to think of a suitable purpose before I suggest it as an app for our ipads.

Louise Robinson-Lay's curator insight, May 17, 2013 6:07 PM

The iPad is so much more than a consumption device. Here are some great tips for using it more collaboratively.

Kim Sheehy's curator insight, May 28, 2013 5:54 AM

Jennie Magiera is a digital learning coordinator of 25 public schools in Chicago. She identifies Schoololgy as being her favourite iPad App for fostering collaboration. It is free and includes important discussion features including interactions displayed on a timeline.

This can be useful for teachers to monitor student questions and answers to problem based learning in the classroom. Students are able to see and respond to each other’s posts while providing the teacher with good knowledge of student learning and understanding of the content. It also provides opportunities for all students to have input.

This resource could be used with students to support the Australian Curriculum: Technologies processes and production skills sub-strand of Creating and interacting online - 4.7 Manage the creation, sharing and exchange of information with known audiences and apply agreed social protocols to protect people when communicating online.

David Miller's comment, May 28, 2013 12:36 PM

Will iPads in the classroom make the grade for students and teachers?

Will iPads in the classroom make the grade for students and teachers? | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

High school teachers have a new disruption to deal with in the classroom: the coming of the iPocalypse. At schools across the country, teachers are being told they must use iPads, which will upend everything they’ve learned over the years about how to teach students. For some, it must feel like the latest, ignominious blow to a profession often under siege.
