Digital devices that can be used to assist blended learning...

iPads and other tablet devices have dominated technology news in recent years. This is mainly due to the unprecedented uptake of these technologies; records are still being broken. The devices have inevitably found their way into educational settings as educators globally seek ways to leverage the interest in new technology towards improved pedagogy. These devices are capable of supplementing, and often replacing, traditional desktop and laptop computers. They have the added dimension of being enabled with locative, motion, audio-visual and spatial capabilities, along with mobile multimedia capture and creation features. Multi-touch and gestural forms of input are also possible. This combination of interest and capability is driving a huge shift towards mobile learning.

7 Things You Should Know About iPad Apps for Learning

7 Things You Should Know About iPad Apps for Learning | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

A thorough and informative article from the folks at Educause and their rightly famous 7 Things series. -JL

"The iPad combines robust computational functionality with a screen large enough to serve as a legitimate replacement for printed textbooks and other course materials. Where the iPad applications have led, other tablets and their attendant applications can be expected to follow, creating a more competitive and diverse market for tools of this type. Applications that live in the spaces where education and entertainment overlap can capture the imagination, enticing students to learn on their own."

Exploring Tappestry: A Storable Social Network for Learning | David Kelly

Exploring Tappestry: A Storable Social Network for Learning | David Kelly | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

KF: A reasonably comprehensive report on Tappestry - a new social network for learning.

"What did you learn today? With Tappestry, you can track what you have learned and catalog it. Then you can tell everyone. Don’t be shy, you might just meet someone. You can use Tappestry to create and curate your own learning stream. Tappestry is a great place to store your learning and your thoughts and check in those little “A-ha!” moments you have. Think of it as your own learning journal or notebook for things you pick up over the course of your day all woven together to create your own distinct learning fabric, your Tappestry."

Fron iTunes:  "This application is currently optimized for the iPod Touch and iPhone device families. iPad users can download and install the application, but the user interface hasn’t been designed for tablet users specifically at this time."

Crop Images on iPhone & iPad Easily with Photos App | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

"The Photos app in iOS includes a built-in crop tool that works very well for quick edits on the go with the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Perhaps even better, there’s a constraint tool that lets you instantly crop images to a variety of common photo proportions, ranging from a perfect square, 4×3, 8×10, 5×7, 16×9, and others taking the guesswork out of the process. No additional downloads or apps required, it’s all featured in the default Photos app."
