Apps and Sites That Work on All Devices for BYOT

Apps and Sites That Work on All Devices for BYOT | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

"“Honestly, I think we should be delighted people still want to read, be it on a Kindle or a Nook or whatever the latest device is.” By J.K. Rowling

With more and more schools launching, ‘Bring Your Own Technology’ or ‘Bringing Your Own Device’ (BYOT/BYOD) I created a symbaloo of all apps and web tools that work on all devices to help educators get started. Even though I am a firm believe, it doesn’t matter what site/app the students use to show mastery of a concept, some educators need a starting place and many have loved this symbaloo so I, of course, want to pass it along."

Via John Evans
Jim Harmon's curator insight, June 19, 5:50 PM

BYOT is a bit of a sticky wicket, but with proper planning, and an awareness of the differences of devices, it can be a reasonable and cost-effective alternative to a 1:1.

To Get the Most Out of Tablets, Use Smart Curation | MindShift | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it
How might efforts to curate benefit from the portability and ubiquity of mobile devices? Tools like Evernote and GoodReads allow for easy and valuable curation. But the harder questions are pedagogical and curricular.
Andrea Walker's curator insight, June 12, 9:06 PM

Excellent article- "The critical task is not finding information or stimuli, but organizing, cataloging, archiving, and developing habits and practices to exercise control over our surfeit of opportunity." So we need to help students get organized (a few key tools highlighted here for this) and "closely and intentionally examine what they read, watch, see, hear, and collect."

You are visiting the portal of a brand-new initiative around so-called MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Most of the MOOCs movement is based in the US. Some European universities join US initiatives, and recently the UK and Australia have launched national initiatives.

OpenupEd is the first MOOCs initiative which goes Europe-wide, with the support of the European Commission. At the start around 40 courses, covering a wide variety of subjects, are available, in 12 different languages. OpenupEd has been initiated and is coordinated by the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) and mostly involves open universities. The 11 launch partners are based in France, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, and the UK, and outside the EU in Russia, Turkey and Israel.

Please feel invited and explore this portal, discover a course you like, in a language you prefer, and with a model that suits you.

Mark Anderson's Blog | education, learning & technology

Mark Anderson's Blog | education, learning & technology | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

I think a Critical Pedagogy is key when looking at iPad. Pedagogy at its definition level says “The method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept.” Critical Pedagogy goes much further however and links far more, I think, to how the iPad should be used to transform learning (more on transformational learning later).

Critical Pedagogy is a philosophy of education by Henry Giroux as an “educational movement, guided by passion and principle, to help students develop consciousness of freedom, recognize authoritarian tendencies, and connect knowledge to power and the ability to take constructive action.”(Giroux, H. (October 27, 2010) “Lessons From Paulo Freire”, Chronicle of Higher Education. Retrieved 10/20/10).

Stampsy is a sharing platform for people who produce compelling digital media content.

Whether you're a photographer, an editor or an art school student, Stampsy is the place where your creative ideas are shaped into beautiful digital experiences. We call them Stamps and they're a completely new online format for framing your talent and sharing content on the web. At a time of rapidly increasing opportunities for storytelling and visual expression, Stampsy is the place where digital content comes to life.

Via Baiba Svenca
Baiba Svenca's curator insight, May 2, 2:00 PM

Stampsy is a new iPad app for creating digital content. The steps are easy to follow - add images and text to your page using drag-and-drop method. Change colours or fonts, and design the page as you like.

The result you'll get is a linear presentation with great visual potential, perfect for storytelling purposes.

There is a small inconvenience though - you will need a Facebook account to use the application.

The app is free. Download it here https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stampsy/id582398120?mt=8

ghbrett's curator insight, May 8, 9:32 AM

Stampsy is an interesting graphic tool currently for the iPad. It has a few necessry tools such as Headline, Text, Images, Colour Palette, Various Fonts, and best of all it is limited to 10 pages. If Powerpoints were limited to 10 pages I wonder how much real information would be lost? No doubt we'd see the important information. Check it out.

Lee Hall's curator insight, May 15, 12:21 PM
