The Smart Way to Use iPads in the Classroom

The Smart Way to Use iPads in the Classroom | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it
The school has an unconventional take on the iPad’s purpose. The devices are not really valued as portable screens or mobile gaming devices. Teachers I talked to seemed uninterested, almost dismissive, of animations and gamelike apps. Instead, the tablets were intended to be used as video cameras, audio recorders, and multimedia notebooks of individual students’ creations. The teachers cared most about how the devices could capture moments that told stories about their students’ experiences in school. Instead of focusing on what was coming out of the iPad, they were focused on what was going into it.
Kim Flintoff's insight:

Focusses on K-12 but there are some key insights that can extend into any learning context.

John Pearce's curator insight, April 17, 2:27 AM

Yet another important read which makes the point that it's important "to recognize that it’s the adults and students around the iPads."

and price point.
Kim Flintoff's insight:

Of course this tends to assume that the educator has their head around this in the first place...

Using Physical and Virtual Printers with iPads - iPads in Education

Using Physical and Virtual Printers with iPads - iPads in Education | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

The list of AirPrint enabled printers is growing but many of us just don't have one. Several app developers have jumped in to fill that void and in doing so, offer features way above and beyond simple printing from your iPad. And if you think this is only about paper based printing then think again. We'll also look at virtual printers for delivering content from an iPad to other computers, people and applications.

But, over the past few months, something has changed. The elite, pace-setting universities have embraced the Internet. Not long ago, online courses were interesting experiments. Now online activity is at the core of how these schools envision their futures.
