Education has an odd reputation for both resisting change, and short-sightedly jumping on emerging edu-trends. This odd juxtaposition colors much of the school reform debate, and bleeds into its adoption of technology as well. In many schools, iPads are being used in extraordinary ways to unleash student learning, while in others it’s characterized as a luxury, lacking priority in an instructional setting where the curriculum and instruction may not considered to be up-to-snuff.

How might efforts to curate benefit from the portability and ubiquity of mobile devices? Tools like Evernote and GoodReads allow for easy and valuable curation. But the harder questions are pedagogical and curricular.

Excellent article- "The critical task is not finding information or stimuli, but organizing, cataloging, archiving, and developing habits and practices to exercise control over our surfeit of opportunity." So we need to help students get organized (a few key tools highlighted here for this) and "closely and intentionally examine what they read, watch, see, hear, and collect." Delete the scoop?

You are visiting the portal of a brand-new initiative around so-called MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Most of the MOOCs movement is based in the US. Some European universities join US initiatives, and recently the UK and Australia have launched national initiatives. OpenupEd is the first MOOCs initiative which goes Europe-wide, with the support of the European Commission. At the start around 40 courses, covering a wide variety of subjects, are available, in 12 different languages. OpenupEd has been initiated and is coordinated by the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) and mostly involves open universities. The 11 launch partners are based in France, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, and the UK, and outside the EU in Russia, Turkey and Israel. Jennie Magiera is a digital learning coordinator of 25 public schools in Chicago. She identifies Schoololgy as being her favourite iPad App for fostering collaboration. It is free and includes important discussion features including interactions displayed on a timeline.
This can be useful for teachers to monitor student questions and answers to problem based learning in the classroom. Students are able to see and respond to each other’s posts while providing the teacher with good knowledge of student learning and understanding of the content. It also provides opportunities for all students to have input.
This resource could be used with students to support the Australian Curriculum: Technologies processes and production skills sub-strand of Creating and interacting online - 4.7 Manage the creation, sharing and exchange of information with known audiences and apply agreed social protocols to protect people when communicating online.

Change colours or fonts, and design the page as you like. The result you'll get is a linear presentation with great visual potential, perfect for storytelling purposes. Stampsy is an interesting graphic tool currently for the iPad. It has a few necessry tools such as Headline, Text, Images, Colour Palette, Various Fonts, and best of all it is limited to 10 pages. If Powerpoints were limited to 10 pages I wonder how much real information would be lost? No doubt we'd see the important information. Check it out.
