Terry Heick: The iPad’s Past, Present & Future In Learning Environments | WiredAcademic

Terry Heick: The iPad’s Past, Present & Future In Learning Environments | WiredAcademic | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Education has an odd reputation for both resisting change, and short-sightedly jumping on emerging edu-trends. This odd juxtaposition colors much of the school reform debate, and bleeds into its adoption of technology as well. In many schools, iPads are being used in extraordinary ways to unleash student learning, while in others it’s characterized as a luxury, lacking priority in an instructional setting where the curriculum and instruction may not considered to be up-to-snuff.

So, you have actually obtained an iPad and it’s beginning to get a little sluggish on you. Quit me if this sound familiar- first, you do your ideal to maximize as significantly storage space as you can collect by erasing old, unused apps. Next off, you determine to unload your photo collection and information to iCloud, or whatever other preferred cloud service you choose. Still not enough? While these are really user-friendly, and also helpful actions, there are still a couple of added approaches available to you to bring your iPad back to life and make it seem like it’s a newer device once more. In no particular order …

Scotland study: Tablet devices in schools beneficial to children

Scotland study: Tablet devices in schools beneficial to children | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

The research focused on four central themes in order to evaluate the overall effectiveness of these devices in assisting with learning, and was carried out by researchers from the Technology Enhanced Learning Research group at the Faculty of Education at the University.

1. Impact of tablet devices on teaching and learning generally The study found that benefits included greater motivation, engagement, parental involvement and understanding of complex ideas.

2. Leader and management issues (stemming from a deployment of devices) The study found that teachers are ‘equally engaged’ by the use of such a device, which has a low learning curve enabling them to use it immediately as a teaching tool and a learning tool for themselves.

3. Professional development of teachers and how teachers cope with using new technology The research found that ‘use of the device is contributing to significant changes in the way teachers approach their professional role as educators and is changing the way they see themselves and their pedagogy’.

4. Parental engagement The study showed that parents become more engaged with the school and their child’s learning when the iPad travels home with the student.

"Finding interesting ways to evaluate, reflect and report on work and projects can be tricky. Many students struggle to engage with the reflection properly as it is often a dry, unentertaining end to any unit or project. But that’s where the Green Screen App can help. (How-to help sheet below)

Remember:

People don’t learn from experience.
People learn when reflecting on experience.
People learn more when they can witness their own reflection."

I'd Love Disappointments like Apple's iPad Sales Figures

I'd Love Disappointments like Apple's iPad Sales Figures | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it
The iPad is a mature device now. It’s not on a one or two-year upgrade cycle and I’d be willing to bet my relatively meager salary that the enormously well-remunerated Cook isn’t even remotely worried.

The iPhone is still an incredible engine for growth within Apple. The iPad is still the tablet that defines how we think about all other tablets. The future of the Apple Watch is far from clear, but it appears to be fitting the company’s well-established playbook for first generation products.
