Peter Mellow's insight:

Using this now with a standard iPad. Works great! Previous apps that I have used to turn my ipad into a 4th monitor ran over bluetooth or Wifi and lagged a bit. The refresh rate with this app is great. Highly reccommended.

BROOKLYN, New York – I’m sitting on the floor at The Academy of Talented Scholars (PS 682) in Bensonhurst, watching kindergarteners create robots on an iPad.

It’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen, and I don’t even like children.

The exercise is part of the curriculum led by co-teachers Stacy Butsikares and Allison Bookbinder, focused on helping the 5- and 6-year-old students come up with ways to solve problems.

The first step is to identify a problem happening in the school. The kindergarteners come up with ideas like kids horsing around in the lunch line, or not throwing trash away properly, or making too much noise at recess. Students are instructed to create a robot that could solve the problem, and draw the robot on a piece of paper.

Once the robot is sketched out, the real fun begins. Using the app The Robot Factory, these pint-sized problem-solvers bring their robot ideas to life.

Encouraging and introducing the students at a young stage to use mobile devices for school is crucial.  Motivation is a key factor that takes in place when applying educational methods to technology.  There are students that want to learn all this, because it is in them they are the 21st century the future of education.  It is important to invest in these systems for the students and teachers, and let them lead the world of tomorrow.

So, you have actually obtained an iPad and it’s beginning to get a little sluggish on you. Quit me if this sound familiar- first, you do your ideal to maximize as significantly storage space as you can collect by erasing old, unused apps. Next off, you determine to unload your photo collection and information to iCloud, or whatever other preferred cloud service you choose. Still not enough? While these are really user-friendly, and also helpful actions, there are still a couple of added approaches available to you to bring your iPad back to life and make it seem like it’s a newer device once more. In no particular order …

5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) | Reality

5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) | Reality | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Focusing on iPad-versus.-laptop comparisons stifles the ability to see how the iPad facilitates student-centered learning. iPads are devices meant to compliment computers, not replace them.

So, people who seek equivalent functionality become frustrated, and fail to realize the intrinsic benefits and features of the iPad’s native design.

Instead, schools should focus their energies on what iPads do best to engender active learning. iPads enable students to kinesthetically connect with their work (especially important for young learners). These tactile elements – using fingers to zoom, rotate in, pinch close, or swipe across – as well as increasingly interactive and immersive apps, facilitate hands-on learning.

Teacher’s use of iPads in higher education

Teacher’s use of iPads in higher education | Curtin iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Teacher’s use of iPads in higher education.  Daniel Churchill & Tianchong Wang

Mobile devices (e.g. iPads or galaxy tab) are increasingly being used in educational contexts. There has been growing investment in higher education institutions in Hong Kong by the HKSAR Education Bureau in relation to educational uses of mobile technology. However, current research into educational applications of this technology is limited. This article reports results of a qualitative study that investigated how higher education teachers use iPads to facilitate their practice. The study results provide insight into both the educational affordances of iPad technology and the ways in which teachers’ personal or private theories mediate these affordances. The study outcomes contribute to theoretical understanding of higher education teacher changes through adoption of mobile technology. Furthermore, the outcomes provide a set of recommendations for applications of iPads and similar technologies in higher education and ways to support teachers to effectively adopt such technology in their practices.
