Creating a Community of Learners With Coding - Edudemic | Current Trends in Technology | Scoop.it
Professional coders work collaboratively, and rarely does a computer scientist create a program solely on their own. 10 Strategies To Get Your Students Coding - TeachThought

10 Strategies To Get Your Students Coding - TeachThought | Current Trends in Technology | Scoop.it

"Teachers struggle to teach budding minds important concepts, but the fact is that America is lacking in science and engineering. In a video aimed at students called What Most Schools Don’t Teach, Mark Zuckerberg tells students: “The whole limit of the system is there just aren’t enough people who are trained and have these skills today.”

The skills Zuckerberg is referring to are computer science and engineering. The ability to code will contribute an estimated 1.4 million jobs to the American economy, but there may not be enough American students to fill the demand. If you are like the growing numbers of teachers who want to introduce coding to the classroom, read on for tips to get students excited about coding."

Tons of Classroom Examples Using Augmented Reality

Tons of Classroom Examples Using Augmented Reality | Current Trends in Technology | Scoop.it

Augmented reality allows someone to add another layer to an existing image.  For example, imagine holding your phone over a poster on the wall as if you were going to take a photo of that poster, and then instantly a video starts playing to offer you additional information about that particular poster.  Pretty cool, right?  The first time it happens, it seems like magic.

Just in time for back-to-school!

Using our Canvas LMS, I also utilize the survey feature to obtain feedback after the first four night classes. There are five questions that help inform my teaching:

  1. The class met all stated learning objectives on the agenda.
  2. The learning exercises in this class supported the learning objectives
  3. The class provoked me to think about the topic in a new way.
  4. This class gave me practical information that I can use "as is" or adapt and use as a student or future teacher.
  5. What questions do you still have?
