Shutdown: NASA Says Ta Ta for Now on Instagram | Truthdig.com

Shutdown: NASA Says Ta Ta for Now on Instagram | Truthdig.com | Current events | Scoop.it

The space agency waved a cheeky goodbye from the social image site Tuesday, saying “we won’t be posting or replying to comments during the U.S. government shutdown.”

NASA broke that rule almost immediately to let a concerned commenter know that vital services would continue and it wouldn’t be stranding any astronauts in space.

Speaking of comments, there are lots of them, mainly variations on the :( emoticon. As of this posting, NASA had 239,100 followers on Instagram, even though it joined the service less than a month ago. It’s been a great way for the agency to share some of its breathtaking images, from rocket launches to views of Earth from space.

How A Government Shutdown Would Affect Small Businesses | Current events | Scoop.it
As the U.S. government could be headed for its first shutdown since 1995, small-business owners are divided on the matter.

Wyatt Mullins's insight:

This article is about how much the govt shutdown is costing the US. They shut it down to find a way to fix the debt that we have but instead it is just costing them money. It costs $1.6 billion for a week, $300 million a day, and about $12.5 million an hour. But, IHS says that it will not effect an economic growth at all. Also they are saying that the GDP will grow the same and not be effected by this govt shutdown.

I think that the shutdown is very worthless because they are only digging our country into the ground. They are trying to aide the poor and get everyone to have a job but the real problem is all the lazy people in America. By shutting down the govt they are putting people out of jobs and making the economy worse. If Obama would just let them do what they want and not focus so much on penis lesser group of America this problem would be resolved.

I agree with Courtney that the article does give evidence that this isn't actually a lot of money compared to our GDP. I find it unnecessary to lose more money than our national debt. We are pretty much making our debt even deeper down the hole. It doesn't even seem like we are losing more money than our national debt. The government should be able to fix this problem.
