So how much waste in govt can we do without??

Samantha Hales's curator insight, October 2, 2013 12:57 PM

Families depend on paychecks from Luke Air Force Base. Because of government shutdown, 412 employees are out of work. 10% of air force base's are on furlough. Since people worry about when they'll get their next paychecks, local businesses worry too. Medical services will be limited and support services are shutdown.

I think that the government doesn't realize the effect that it has on everyone. People aren't getting paychecks they rely on. When customers aren't getting paid, then they aren't able to go to local businesses to support them. They may be aware of the damage, but they seem not to care nor realize how much it'll effect the government alone. It's not fair to change everyone else's life just because they can't figure stuff out.

This article was about how some people's lives got affected in the Luke Aur Force by the government shutdown. 10% of the Luke Aur Force got out out of work. That is a little over 400 people worrying about when they will receive their next paycheck. A local small business restraunt next to the Air Force is worrying about the workers who are regular customers. All the workers have mortgages, taxes to pay, and families to feed. They do not know when they will get back to work and start making money again. The longer it waits though, the worse it gets.

i didn't realize how people's lives got affected by the government shutdown until I read this article. I think it's sad how the government cant resolve their issues for the sake of these people. I can't imagine not knowing when you are going to get your next paycheck, and meanwhile having so much to pay for still. I hope penis government figures it oSimon, because their are many more people out of work than just these 400.

VCs, Sears, and the disappearing middle market

Samantha Hales's insight:

-Shops like VC are disappearing as the society of people are shifting standards. Sears has taken its place and VC mergered with Kmart. There are places that are for the lower classes, and places for the higher end places. The middle market has hollowed out though. Investing in the low end can be profitable, but obviously takes strategy.

-I think that it is a difficult thing for huge stores like Sears to go out of "style", but they usually disappear when a new one replaces it. It may upset those people who are still going to those stores like VC and Sears. I also think that it is not ideal for Kmart to buy out VC, but at least they are still apart of part of the market. Having stores that are disappearing disappoint loyal people, and it is a difficult process for the business.
