Clash Crowdfunding Lessons
Crowdfunding may be the ultimate "in your face" DIY (Do It Yourself) disruption. Much like the CLASH's "punk ethos", so well described in The Future Is Unwritten the biopic documentary film about Joe Strummer, marketers must create content and community with authenticity and awesome, daring and original content.

Working on a companion Curagami blog post too. Here is link to HaikuDeck:

Crowdfunding Real Estate: Bill Gassett & MaxRealEstateExposure CrowdFunde Partner #4

Crowdfunding Real Estate: Bill Gassett & MaxRealEstateExposure CrowdFunde Partner #4 | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Bill Gassett & Crowdfunding Real Estate
Great call about crowdfunding real estate yesterday with @Bill Gassett. Bill is a leader in the use of social media, blogging and G+ for realtors. Bill explained that his business tends to be mercenary - they don't inter-link.

Bill does and that is why he has thousands of followers on G+ and his other social nets. I introduced Bill to Scoop.it and he loves it. Next journey we will take together is to add #crowdfunding to his real estate site:
http://www.maxrealestateexposure.com/

CrowdFunde now has 4 partners with one pending. Instead of STOPPING we are going to increase the number of beta partners from 5 to 10. We haven't found a 501c3 nonprofit yet and the more content we have flowing through the engine fast the more CrowdFunde's rising content marketing and crowdfunding tide will help create scale.

SO, our Partner SEARCH is still ON! Learn more details here:

CrowdFunde Creating Crowdfunding's Hub [ScentTrail Video]

Funny How Things Turn Out
Every notice things rarely to NEVER turn out how you think or plan them? After creating CureCancerStarter.org, one of the first cancer research crowdfunding websites, it felt like the SEC was about to blow crowdfunding UP.

That feeling was so strong I wrapped up my foundation and left my Marketing Director position thinking CrowdFunde.com would be all about enterprise crowdfunding (what is up on the website now).

Yeah, not so much as it turns out.

Yes the SEC & Google is about to put the three kinds of crowdfunding:

* Rewards (like Kickstarter.com).
* Donation (like Kiva.org and CharityWater.org and CureCancerStarter.org).
* Equity and debt (where you trade money for shares, should be approved by early summer).

Crowdfunding is so VALUABLE to content marketing and SEO I thought "enterprise crowdfunding" was the way to go. The more I worked the problem the more meshing and mashing is the "lean startup" answer as I share in this video with  a cameo from Lucian the crazy cat.

Wish us luck and please follow us here:

Brief History Of The Next Big Thing & Next Big Thing Predictions by @PeterSweeney Primal

Brief History Of The Next Big Thing & Next Big Thing Predictions by @PeterSweeney Primal | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
In business, vision isn’t some mythical ability to see the future. It’s about being able to recognize a pattern and appl…
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Great Post But Upside Down
This is a great post by Primal's founder Peter Sweeney, but it is upside down for what I want to accomplish today. Sitting there thinking I wish the bottom were the top I realized I have the tools to make that happen (lol).

Crowdfunding feels like a "next big thing" with tentacles in everything from banking to ecommerce so it passes the very good Next Big Thing Test Peter's post creates:

"How to Recognize The Next Big Thing?

If the history of The Next Big Thing teaches us anything, it’s that new media invariably dominates old media; regardless of how hard the incumbents try to keep new media down.

Equally clear, the essence of The Next Big thing won’t be technological. Cloud, data, augmented, geo, semantic, mobile, distributed, implicit, programmable networks are statements of technological enablers, not human experiences."

Ideas Peter sees as Next Big Thing:

* Interest networks (niched & more personal social media).
* Computational Services.

* Automated Assistants.

Ideas I see as next Big Thing:

* Crowdfunding.
* Distributed Ecommerce.
* Curating Conversations.

Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding is so much MORE than seed equity funding. Having managed a multi-million dollar ecommerce website and remembering putting my job on the line every Christmas means finding ways to "test before we test" and generate tribal formation every website needs these days favors a crowdfunding revolution that only has a little to do with seed funding via equity crowdfunding.

The trend is already manifesting. Dell creates a new "venture fund", P&G outsources 50% of their R&D and Kickstarter is slouching toward their $1 BILLLION in funding party. Soon we will "crowdfund" everything.

Ecommerce
After Google's algorithm changes storming the castle of scaled websites to achieve top search rankings is all but impossible. This begs the question WHY is commerce something we must got to a website to complete. In a SOCIAL and MOBILE time why can't we THINK, "I want that," and have it flying in on one of those Amazon drones?

Why is our eCommerce imagination so BORING? Whit is it so proprietary? Why do we make online customers COME TO US? One of the things we proved with CureCancerStarter.org, our crowdfunding cancer research platform on Authorize.net, is once you've created the commercial "token" it can go anywhere. SO why isn't it?

The most disruptive thing any affiliate marketer does is ship traffic across the bridge to their partner. More than half the traffic drops off. Why not CONVERT ANYWHERE?

Conversations
The conversation is rapidly becoming the new medium and currency thanks to the SOCIAL, MOBILE and VIDEO tsunamis. We can consult experts on anything. Our marketing is "inbound" so own the conversation to own the traffic.

"Owning the conversation,” means curating in a Radian6 ORM (Online Reputation) way. Our marketing must curate conversations in near real-time no matter where they happen.

Crowdfunding & Gamification: What's Next

Crowdfunding & Gamification: What's Next | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

When the lit match of gamificaiton hits the exposed jet fuel of crowdfunding both will feed speed, scale and intelligence into the other. I've read the Forrester report that predicts 80% gamification failure by 2015 and have two thoughts.

1. 80% failure is about the normal Internet marketing "hit" rate.

2. That means 20% are going to win BIG, very big.

The combination of gamification and crowdfunding is more likely than not to be in that 20% winner category.

Internet Marketing's Secret Triptych - Atlantic BT

Internet Marketing's Secret Triptych - Atlantic BT | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
Internet Marketing's Triptych is Cause, Crowds and Cash. Learn how to use those three ideas in concert with one another and your online marketing wins.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Internet Marketing's Secret Triptych
Can't tell you how long these three ideas have been sitting in front of me. I've written recent posts about how everyone needs a store and why e-commerce is stronger with crowdfunding than alone.

After a barely articulate interview with our local paper, the Raleigh News and Observer, where I succeed at saying what Internet marketing isn't I wanted to think HARD about what it is.

Turns out I've been close for a while. Combining these three ideas into the Internet Marketing Triptych creates the missing view. Any online marketing team who combines cause, crowds and cash will rule their business vertical.

Do Cool Stuff, Change World, Cure Cancer: Cure Cancer Starter on Guru.com. Is Your Bid In?

Do Cool Stuff, Change World, Cure Cancer: Cure Cancer Starter on Guru.com. Is Your Bid In? | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Cure Cancer Starter - Crowdfunding Cancer Research
Loaded CureCancerStarter.org to Guru.com after our Atlantic BT team got overbooked. If you are a developer/designer and want to change the WORLD here is your chance.

How cool would that be?

Imagine you are sitting at a bar and an attractive woman (or handsome man) asks the inevitable, "What do you do," question. You take a sip of beer slowly, look away for a moment and then hold their eyes as you say, "I helped cure cancer".

Doesn't get any cooler than that. The guru.com project listing includes a summary, functional specifications and several revisions. If you've always wanted to be that guy (or girl) in that bar having that conversation then we are looking for YOU :).

Not that guy or girl but KNOW that guy or girl? If you know cool developers who love to stretch and do amazingly awesome things please give them a nudge and come along for a magical mystery tour. There is plenty of work to go around :).

Thanks, Marty

Cure Cancer Starter Crowdfunding Cancer Research is GAME ON!

Cure Cancer Starter Crowdfunding Cancer Research is GAME ON! | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it
Cure Cancer Starter is a crowdfunding platform connecting cancer patients, their friends and...
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

And suddenly Cure Cancer Starter has a quorum with four great cancer centers:

* University of North Carolina's Lineberger Cancer Center.

* Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York.

* University of Wisconsin's Carbone Cancer Center.

* Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, North Carolina.

Both of my treating institutions have signed on to be part of Cure Cancer Starter's pilot program. Cure Cancer Starter is our "Kickstarter for cancer research" platform to bring cancer doctors and researchers together into a common community with an important goal - curing cancer.

Atlantic BT, where I am Marketing Director, is helping create a platform for cancer patients. Cancer patients can take an empowering action by funding research.

The most devastating thing about hearing your name and "cancer" in the same sentence is how helpless you feel. You are sure your life is now beyond your control. The invisible hand is playing with your life like a marionette.

For a year I trained and then rode 3,300 miles on a bicycle I wasn't sick. No colds or sniffles despite riding 10 days in the rain. For 60 days I "cured" my chronic Leukemia.

I had to go back into chemo within weeks after Martin's Ride ended, but I didn't feel helpless until chemo kicked my butt again. Cure Cancer Starter is Martin's Ride 2.

This time, instead of a team of 3, I hope we can create a big "cure cancer" community, a community where doctors and researchers share their projects with people willing to donate and be a part of the cure for cancer. Can't tell you how much it would have meant to send someone $100 and be part of a team working on Leukemia after my diagnosis. Would have been MAGICAL and EMPOWERING.

Thanks to all my Scoop.it friends for help, ongoing support and best wishes. If anyone would like to help by reviewing beta designs, helping form plans and other foundational work for Cure Cancer Starter let me know. There are GREAT smart people on Scoop.it.

Has @HaikuDeck Created A New Powerful Visual Marketing Channel? +8,322 Views in 22 Days says YES! | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

Amazing Content Marketing Tool
If you don't use Haiku Deck to help create visual marketing you are missing a powerful tool. We've created 36 Haiku Decks. Over the last 22 days those decks added 8,322 views or 378 new views each day.There is NOTHING we are doing with that kind of reach...NOTHING!

We are beginning to believe Slide Decks may be an exciting new marketing channel. Amazingly NONE of our 36 decks reported zero views over the last 22 days. Even OLD decks continue to be viewed making slides and slide decks VALUABLE content indeed.

Not a complete surprise since Slideshare has been creating SEO magic for years, but Haiku Deck may have just legitimized slides as a marketing channel. You don't need an excuse to create Haiku Decks. No conference talks needed to win with these new visual marketing tools. SLIDES and Haiku Deck's CMS that sits on top of the Creative Commons are becoming a powerful content marketing tool and a widgetized marketing channel in their own right.

Four Principles For An Open Digital World - author Don Tapscott TED Talk Video

4 Principles of A Networked World
Macrowikinomics author Don Tapscott shares great examples of his 4 emerging principles of our new digital world including:

* Collaboration.

* Transparency.

* Sharing.
* Empowerment

Marty Note
I found the discussion of the commons and the example of starling flocking behavior (at the end) the most resonant. I'd heard about the gold mine several times and agree with Tapscott - crowds are the key to our web future.

At Curagami we've been working on what it means to create online community. CTSE (Collaboration, Transparency, Sharing, Empowerment) are the table stakes of this new poker. We would add:

* Communication.
* UGC.
* Gamification.

Communication within and around the hub is a CSF (Critical Success Factor) for online community. You need to be able to follow and communicate with me and vice versa.

User Generated Content must be listened to, valued and rewarded with gamification or its a one-time "one and done" thing.

3 Crowdfunding Whitepapers | via CommunityLeader, Inc | Curation Revolution | Scoop.it

The Knowledge and Resources Needed to Grow your Business in the Crowdfunding Market.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Every one of these 3 crowdfunding whitepapers is worth a read. As I state on our #startup http://www.crowdfunde.com crowdfunding will become a new and important marketing "channel" for all NOT JUST equity crowdfunders.

P&G might crowdfund new R&D, Amazon might crowdfund a new book or movie. Every marketer is now also a publisher, TV producer and movie creator. Forming the capital for all the cool marketing we need is fraught with DANGER.

Crowdfunding provides a way to "test before you test", to see if you can scale an idea before you invest in hard goods or more content and information. Crowdfunding is going to change...everything.

Reading these 3 white papers helps understand why. I promise to write something on Crowdfunding: The New Marketing Channel soon too.
