Adam Schulman's insight:

ThingLink helps you create and find images from all over the net.  With those images you can then place comments and details to help your students to understand the image. You can also make your images come to life with music and video clips. you tell your stories.  I have found that the use of Thinglinks are very useful in educating students with LD's because it places: images, texts, and audio methods, at the teacher's disposal.

Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary

Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary | curation project | Scoop.it
Clear and simple definitions in basic American English from North America's leading language experts. More usage examples than any other dictionary.
Adam Schulman's insight:

The learner's dictionary is a great tool to have saved to your cell phone or tablet.  As ESL teachers, sometimes we struggle with having to find easy definitions for words, especially when the definitions found in the Oxford or Webster dictionaries are sometimes to difficult for our ESL students to understand.  The Learner's dictionary overcomes this pitfall by providing easy to understand definitions that are appropriate for students still learning the language.

Share your videos with friends, family, and the world
Adam Schulman's insight:

YouTube is a great video based resource.  A teacher can search for videos on countless topics and create lessons around the video clip.  It can be used to show content in original ways, such as having songs with the lyrics can be an excellent reading comprehension.  The videos can be the focus of a lesson or as a supplemental source.

Adam Schulman's insight:

I like to use Movenote to communicate with my students.  Normally my class is taught through the use of technology and at the students available schedule.  Movenote is an excellent tool to use in preparing my students for the speaking portion of the TOEFL exam.  Additionally, it allows me to place reading passages for them to read while they listen to lectures.

Adam Schulman's insight:

"Google Docs is a freeware web-based office suite offered by Google within its Google Drive service.  It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating with other users live." ("Google Drive". Google. Retrieved 5/15/2014) For teachers and students it is a wonderful tool for mutual collaboration and commenting.  By using Google Docs, all students can access the document from all over.  So if a student is absent, the rest of the group can still access their joint work.  Also, if a person is writing a paper through Google Docs there papers are automatically backed up to the Google Drive, preventing papers from being lost in case of computer crashes.

Worksheets, jobs, flashcards, lesson plans, and activities for teaching ESL and EFL
Adam Schulman's insight:

Bogglesworldesl.com is a great website to know about.  I first discovered it while working in Korea.  At the time I was trying to create a curriculum that would help me teach my kindergartners the basics of reading, writing and vocabulary. This website provides excellent worksheets for all ages and multiple classes.  It provides worksheets, flashcards, activities, and ideas for lesson plans.

Pinterest

Pinterest | curation project | Scoop.it
Pinterest is a visual discovery tool that you can use to find ideas for all your projects and interests.
Adam Schulman's insight:

Most people use Pintrest as a way to find recipes or other ideas that they're interested about.  However, as a teacher we can also use it to share ideas about lesson plans, activities, and field trips that worked really well in the classroom.  I have used it to find worksheets and art projects for my kindergartners while working in Korea.

Socrative | Student response system | Engage audiences

Socrative | Student response system | Engage audiences | curation project | Scoop.it
Socrative is a smart student response system that empowers teachers to engage their classrooms
through a series of educational games and exercises via smartphones and tablets. Our apps are super simple and take seconds to load
and run.

Via Ana Cristina Pratas
Adam Schulman's insight:

This is a great tool! Socrative allows teachers to prepare interactive quizzes that can be used in real time.  Once the teacher is prepared to start the quiz, he/she can have them login to the quiz room from their tablets or smart phones.  My favorite style of running the quiz is through the space race, which shows how quickly each student can answer the questions.  The quizzes can either be multiple choice, short answer, and true or false.  The quizzes will also be able to show a clear breakdown of how the students answered the questions.

One of my favorite teacher / student clickers because it's supported on any device, including the web. I control mine with the iPad and use the laptop cart, so this software works in case you're not 1-1 with iPods or iPads yet.

Bring your own device and transform student mobile devices for quick data analysis and allow instant feedback to assess learning.

Quizlet Tutorial

Introducing Quizlet
Adam Schulman's insight:

Quizlet is one of my favorite teaching tools.  Quizlet is a great  tool to use to help teach and quiz student's knowledge of vocabulary.  For many of my older students who are studying on their own schedules and do not always have time to make flashcards or practice vocab quizzes this is tool makes their studying so much easier.  This tool gives them all the flashcards and they can access it from their smartphones and just flip through all of their new vocabulary on the bus to school.  It also allows them to take their vocabulary quizzes on their own time, and then upload the results.
