Free Screen-Sharing for Up To 96 People At A Time: FreeScreenSharing.com | Curation, Gamification, Augmented Reality, connect.me, Singularity, 3D Printer, Technology, Apple, Microsoft, Science, wii, ps3, xbox | Scoop.it

Robin Good: FreeScreenSharing.com is a new webconferencing service that integrates screen-sharing, text chat and audio conferencing in a simple and free to use tool.

FreeScreenSharing can accomodate up to 96 concurrent participants and any account can have a maximum of 6 hours per month of use.

The service integrates a US-based toll-free tele-conferencing service and provides multiple options to customize and personalize the customer interface.

The technology makes use of Java and Javascript and can be accessed easily with both PCs and Macs.

As for another past freebie conferencing system, Freebinar (now Anymeeting), I can't avoid to note how much the control dashboard of FSS closely replicates in many instances the original GoToMeeting UI, though there exist some key differences.

10 YouTube Videos Every Entrepreneur Should Watch | Curation, Gamification, Augmented Reality, connect.me, Singularity, 3D Printer, Technology, Apple, Microsoft, Science, wii, ps3, xbox | Scoop.it
We compiled a list of the most useful YouTube videos that every entrepreneur should watch.

While "going green" has been popular over the last decade, many businesses are still reluctant to switch over, fearing the cost of installing these systems outweighs the benefits. One YouTube video featuring Gary Hirshberg, president and CEO of organic food company Stonyfield Farm, explains how a business can go green and become environmentally responsible while still being profitable. Since going green 18 years ago, Hirshberg reports that Stonyfield Farm has grown over 24 percent annually—the rest of the organic food industry, meanwhile, is only growing four percent annually. Hirshberg believes non-renewable energy is the most inflationary cost in society, and explains why every project presents an opportunity to practice sustainability and make a difference.

Curation Meets Storytelling -Telling Stories of Human History Through Objects | Curation, Gamification, Augmented Reality, connect.me, Singularity, 3D Printer, Technology, Apple, Microsoft, Science, wii, ps3, xbox | Scoop.it

Katherine Schulten & Shannon Doyne wrote this  piece for The New York Times.

Curation meets storytelling, so many great gems in this article. This definitely gets my creative juices flowing, what about you?

In "Stuff That Defines Us" Carol Vogel writes:

"It was a project so audacious that it took 100 curators four years to complete it.

****The goal: to tell the history of the world through 100 objects culled from the British Museum’s sprawling collections."

Ideas for using the British Museum's "The History of the World in 100 Objects," along with a related Times article and slide show, in the classroom.

Here's what caught my attention:

People’s Choices

To coincide with the “History of the World in 100 Objects” project, the public was invited to tell their stories about objects that hold significance to them.

Activity Ideas

Create Your Own Slide Show or Podcast About Important Objects

All segments of the BBC’s “A History of the World in 100 Objects” are available online.

Listen to a segment about an object that interests you,

**taking notes on how narrator Neil MacGregor describes and contextualizes it by telling a story that, as the Times article puts it, “everybody could relate to.”

Next, choose an object from history — whether an artifact of a fascinating era, an invention that changed history, a work of art that intrigues you, or anything else —

research it. When it was made? Who made it? How does it reflect its time and place? What does it say about human culture?

One of NASA’s Commercial Crew Development (CCDev) suitors – Boeing and their CST-100 spacecraft – have signed a 15 year lease to utilize Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF-3) at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The deal was announced on Monday, following a NASA agreement with Space Florida – the State’s aerospace economic development agency.

Classed as an “innovative agreement” by NASA, the Agency announced the partnership with Space Florida to exclusively occupy, use and modify OPF-3, the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) Processing Facility and Processing Control Center.

In tandem with the partnership, Space Florida announced it is leasing the OPF-3 to the Boeing Company to manufacture and test the company’s Crew Space Transportation (CST-100) spacecraft, creating up to 550 jobs along the Space Coast.

Undoubtedly the most experimental of British national newspapers, The Guardian has done everything from launching an API for its content to having a go at opening its newslists to the public. N0tice is another innovative project that it is trialling, and it has real potential to take news reporting, and news gathering, in some interesting new directions.

N0tice is essentially an online community noticeboard, upon which news, details of events, and local special offers can be posted for other users.

What’s the potential here? N0tice could become a truly useful way for people to share news, and for professional news organisations to source stories in locations of interest...

The Future Of Social Media Is... [Quotes] | Curation, Gamification, Augmented Reality, connect.me, Singularity, 3D Printer, Technology, Apple, Microsoft, Science, wii, ps3, xbox | Scoop.it
We asked Mark Cuban, Dennis Crowley, Gina Bianchini, and more than a dozen others. Here's what they said.

This article by Dan Frommer and Jen Ortiz for Business Insider links to a slideshow with quotes from major Social Media company CEOs and co-founders, intellectuals and a Curated Twitter persona, among others about their takes on the future of Social Media.  Here's just one of them, from Dae Mellencamp, CEO of Vimeo:

**** "The future of social media is the loss of the distinction between media and social interaction online. Mass media and social media will be seamlessly integrated across devices and platforms to offer relevant, dynamic, personalized experiences for people anywhere. Discoverability and the import of editorial curation will not be lost, but rather inherently incorporated into the environments for richer and more customized experiences."

The full article has many more gems and is well worth a few minutes of your time!

The Value Differential: Content Curation vs. App Spam | Shatterbox | Curation, Gamification, Augmented Reality, connect.me, Singularity, 3D Printer, Technology, Apple, Microsoft, Science, wii, ps3, xbox | Scoop.it

Robin Good: A short article by Jay Pinkert, but pointing to an increasingly critical issue for anyone interested in curation. The value differential.

From the article: "The essence of curation, then, is the curator’sinformed and discriminating point of view and active participation.

As with most endeavors that require extra personal attention and effort, there’s strong temptation to look for shortcuts – that means you, Paper.li and Summify.

It’s worth noting that Twitter ranking/management clients like TwitCleaner classify tools that auto-aggregate and auto-tweet your content feed as “app spam.”

Over-reliance on those tools can negatively impact your social media profile and rankings, and those items are less likely to be shared than ones you’ve clearly considered and bundled on your own."

janlgordon's comment, November 2, 2011 12:17 PM
Thanks for posting this Robin, it's something that I think we all need to pay attention to - part of curating is having conversations, stimulating new thought, collaboration and opinions - it's hard to do that if you're automating your content. Having said that, many of us are on different time zones, kind of hard to converse in real time. Curation is a work in progress....

Photons to Bits and Beyond: The Science & Technology of Digital

The Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science presents the 2011 Victor M. Tyler Distinguished Lectureship in Engineering with Eric Fossum, Professor of Engineering in Dartmouth's Thayer School and a consultant to Samsung Electronics' Semiconductor R&D Center. Dr. Fossum, who earned a PhD in electrical engineering from Yale in 1984, is one of the world's leading solid-state image sensor device physicists, best known for inventing the CMOS image sensor. His "camera-on-a-chip" technology is used in nearly all camera phones and webcams, digital-still cameras, high-speed motion capture cameras, automotive cameras, dental x-ray cameras, and swallowable pill cameras.

An entrepreneur as well as inventor, Fossum's transfer of his own IP portfolio to industry has yielded one of Caltech's greatest licensing revenue streams, and he has served as CEO of two successful high-tech companies. His work was included on Reuters' list of "Baby Boomer Inventions that Changed the World," and Forbes calls him an inventor who has "changed your life."

The battle for top billing on the search results page is fierce – and sites with fresh, relevant content are the ones that come out on top. Sounds like an easy formula, but maintaining SEO performance is often easier said than done. As any marketer will tell you, continuously creating, publishing and promoting original content is no small task. That is why many are turning to content curation tools that help find, organize and share content online to ensure that their site is constantly delivering updated, highly topical, keyword-rich content – making it a natural winner in the battle of Search Engine Optimization.

SEO performance is top of mind for most marketers in today’s digital world. Most marketers I speak with want to know how simply generating content is going to propel them to page one of the search results. It is important for marketers to understand that generating content is not the only thing about curation that will translate into better SEO performance.

Here is a list of ways that content curation allows you to fight above your weight class in the battle for first page results...
