Peek is a new online service which allows you to get a real human to visit your site and to record a custom video in which your site is explored with the eyes of a first time visitor and with the recording of his own voice recounting his first time impressions.

The result is invaluable for any serious web publisher wanting to improve the organization, usability and design of its web site.

To use Peek you only need to type the URL of your preferred web site, and then wait for an email that will provide you a link with the video.

Your response time may vary, but in my case I got the video in less than hour. The clip is 6'+ minutes long and provided me immediately with lots of useful insight about what I could improve right away.

Free to try and for three verifications every month.

Extremely useful. I'd say invaluable. Every web publisher should try it once.

Try it out now: http://peek.usertesting.com/

Shel Holtz: Smarter Curation for Enterprises

Shel Holtz: Smarter Curation for Enterprises | Curation et communication | Scoop.it

Shel Holtz discusses some ways that organizations can focus their curation efforts.  He suggests four potential hooks for content curation:

 - Curating news around an event: By curating comments from customers, partners and consumers, you've created something way more interesting than the traditional pitch for media coverage.

- Curating around issues or subjects : high quality curation of relevant materials can be carried out by individuals or teams . In doing so , they provide a service for other employees and also boost their own reputation and profile.

- Allowing employees to share content with external sources via social media: Shel makes a case for enabling sharing for internal articles that are also suitable for external consumption . Let your employees spread the word about your company.

-Curating by the Comms team to help employees understand the forces at play in their market.

As always, Shel makes a cogent, interesting argument backed up with real world examples from companies including PepsiCo and American Electric Power.

YK Chau's curator insight, January 8, 2013 9:05 PM

Silvia Rosenthal Tolisano has an interesting and highly visual post on collecting vs. curating with Twitter, and on the curation potential Twitter has in store for those involved in education.

She quotes Mike Fisher writing: "Collecting is what kids do when asked to find resources for a particular topic. Usually, it represents the first 3 or 4 hits on a Google search, without meaning, discernment, or connections.

Curating is different. It’s the Critical Thinker’s collection, and involves several nuances (see Figure 1) that separate it as an independent and classroom-worthy task."

Useful. Resourceful. 7/10

Full article: http://langwitches.org/blog/2013/01/03/twitter-as-a-curation-tool/#

Robin's curated posts hits it on the nail with the distinct differences and although I like the visual aspects of the post, I struggle with referring to Twitter as a curating tool.

It is certainly a critical tool for collecting, researching and having the conversations. I think there is a challenge on how to effectively curate with Twitter. I know many use Storify to do this which is often a re- representationof the tweets.

I am very interested in how Twitter will use Summnify aand Posterous in the field of curation.

As a result, I really likw the distinctions made and the logic the author takes us through. I would  perhaps be a little more cautious with referring  Twitter as a curation tool.

Useful 6/10

People will trust you if you are discerning."

Understanding Content Curation

Understanding Content Curation | Curation et communication | Scoop.it

"On her blog, Nancy White did a great job detailing the various levels at which Curation adds value. And how it differs from collecting.

A Learning & Innovation specialist, she also greatly outlines how curation and education are a great fit," says Neli Maria Mengalli.

I agree and for  me, the whole post is interesting as a great analysis of the value of curation in increasing knowledge in a community, in this case an educational community.

I think the emphasis Nancy places on having the students curate as a learning activity, and to increase their information literacy is especially telling. It seems to me to point up a way that best practices could actually be shared and discussed within organizations. I have often seen companies try to implement knowledge sharing around best practices but it frequently falls to the wayside, especially as content ages.

It seems like curation could be a way to keep adding to the discussion and the currency of best practices by introducing fresh voices and real life examples.

Robin Good's curator insight, July 24, 2013 5:11 PM

Matt Cutts is head of Google's Webspam team and frequently writes and publishes video clips that help web publishers better understand how to avoid getting penalized and how to provide the best value to their readers and to Google needs.

In this clip Matt answer the following question: "Many sites have a press release section, or a news section that re-posts relevant articles. Since it's all duplicate content, they be better off removing these sections (even with plenty of other unique content)?" (from Gus, MA)

If you are interested in finding out what Matt Cutts thinks about content curation versus light re-sharing and republishing of other people's content here is a good video to watch.

Good advice. Bottom line is "don't play smart, create value". 8/10

Cinq secteurs sont intégrés dans cette vision: l’énergie, l’eau, les transports, les bâtiments et le gouvernement (local).
