How might efforts to curate benefit from the portability and ubiquity of mobile devices? Tools like Evernote and GoodReads allow for easy and valuable curation. But the harder questions are pedagogical and curricular.

Andrea Walker's insight:

Excellent article- "The critical task is not finding information or stimuli, but organizing, cataloging, archiving, and developing habits and practices to exercise control over our surfeit of opportunity." So we need to help students get organized (a few key tools highlighted here for this) and "closely and intentionally examine what they read, watch, see, hear, and collect."

Marco Bertolini's curator insight, June 22, 2013 4:10 AM

Ness Crouch's curator insight, June 22, 2013 5:05 PM

Excellent article and video. Looking at the wonderful world of the internet and curation. The idea of curation of online content has become more and more inportant with the exponential growth of content on the world wide web. Being able to organise and manage all of the content is important.

Curation is about making good choices about what you share and putting it into a context for themselves and others. Being enthusiastic and thoughtful about what you choose is a way of showing what you are finding and sharing is signficant and worthwhile.

Finding the most interesting and valuable things and sharing that is the key. What you want and what you are interested in is important but you also need to consider your audience.

"Did you know you can now integrate two of the best apps to help you find and share content daily?" writes Liz Wilson on Business2Community.com.

Some of them will become friends. After a bit more than a year, I have an incredible knowledge network of friendly, helpful people in my Scoop.it community."

And also how the Scoop.it App enhances her HootSuite experience: "Until the Scoop.it app came along I hadn’t found a satisfactory way to quickly uncover great content from inside HootSuite. I wanted a quick and easy way to do more of my work from inside Hoot Suite – and this is it."

Andreas Kuswara's comment, June 11, 2013 9:22 PM
I supposed twitter can be used or any tool can be used for anything, but some tools are made with certain intended affordance by the creator that would make the tool less effective for certain functions. curation in a way is capturing things void of time (i probably drawing too much from museum), while twitter is fast pace timeline of interactive (or one way) discourse.... they seems to be inherently different.

i'm just automatically sceptical when 'one tool can be use for all' theme appear. but it is an interesting suggestion.
Bonnie Bracey Sutton's comment, June 11, 2013 9:33 PM

Teaching Students to Become Curators of Ideas: The Curation Project

Teaching Students to Become Curators of Ideas: The Curation Project | Curate This! | Scoop.it

To talk content curation, we really need to think through the duties of a museum curator for a second. A curator scours the art world, selects the finest works, gathers them together around a unified theme, provides a frame to understand the artists’ messages and then hosts a conversation around the collection. That’s not unlike the 21st century teacher who must comb through an overabundance of information to discover the significant and relevant, bundle those ideas into course modules, contextualize them for the class and then create an environment for students to explore those ideas and enter into a conversation about them.
