With over 500 million users on Twitter, 175 million on LinkedIn, and over a billion on Facebook, you probably haven’t heard of most people on the Internet. The bad news is that this also means most of those people probably haven’t heard of you either.

Five years ago, SEO was all the buzz. Today, it has shifted to "content marketing," which aims to create stories humans want to read and engage with.
Sergey Gitinsky's insight:

Keyword-Based Themed Content Strategy: A Three-Step Process | SearchEngineLand

Keyword-Based Themed Content Strategy: A Three-Step Process | SearchEngineLand | Создание подборок. Фильтрация контента в интернете | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Brad Neelan does a good job of outlining and summarizing what it takes to find relevant new content themes that can help you or your company stand out and become more relevant to your readers.

In synthesis, this is the three-step strategy he suggests to use:

"What you are looking for is data insights that highlight a trending topic or illustrate an opportunity area based on emerging interest.

When you couple these trending keyword opportunities with categories of interest to your business clientele, you can formulate a snapshot based on growing patterns of interest.

...When you begin to institutionally think about where you can capitalize on keywords that are either not yet in vogue, or about to become breakout, you will find that search provides a wealth of potential insight to inform your next big differentiating position.

...Once you have begun to think about the opportunities keyword insights can provide, you collect the concepts into a pool of potential targets grouped by theme."

Useful. 7/10

A Realistic, Down-to-Earth Simple Explanation of Content Curation for Bloggers and Web Marketers

A Realistic, Down-to-Earth Simple Explanation of Content Curation for Bloggers and Web Marketers | Создание подборок. Фильтрация контента в интернете | Scoop.it

Robin Good: This is a good introductory article to content curation for those who are rightly skeptical about this new buzzword and are wondering how much this just a useless fad or something worth paying attention to.

Here a few highlights and excerpts from the article:

"...while technology like CurationSoft can be a great tool to gather relevant information, true curation is more about weeding through everything and putting the best content into a digestible perspective for your visitors.

So what makes this a better approach than autoblogging or any other type of content linking?

...anyone can push a button and get content scraped and posted.

It doesn’t take any expertise or knowledge of a topic to do that, nor does it benefit anyone.

But someone who can “sift” and “separate” good content from bad, and add a clearly beneficial perspective on it...

...A good content curator then, can quickly become the “go to” person for information pertaining to a topic, and might even have people opting to check with them first before searching for information on their own.

...content curation isn’t just aggregating or sharing links. Nor is it merely looking for content to add to your blog."

Rightful. 8/10

“Media and content are human businesses, and it’s a problem for humans to give so much power to Google, which is a robot” he said.

The debate whether SEO still matters or not is not important. What's relevant is that great content that please human genuine interests will surface more than it used to thanks to the work of human curators.

Why You Need To Curate Content and How To Be A Master At It

Why You Need To Curate Content and How To Be A Master At It | Создание подборок. Фильтрация контента в интернете | Scoop.it

This is a great piece by Heidi Cohen on why your marketing needs content curation and 12 attributes of a successful curation strategy.  This is one of the best articles I've seen on this topic in a very long time.

As I said, I've seen many pieces on curation but if you're like me, everytime I read about this, I always find something new or am reminded of ways I can polish what I'm doing.

Here are some of the highlights.........

Intro:

Why Your Marketing Needs Content Curation

At its core, content curation is like a great editor or blogger who brings his unique taste and understanding of his target audience to his selection of the best content for his readers.

**He provides context for the content so that it's more than a collection of information

3 Reasons your content marketing strategy needs content curation:

1. Offering your audience a combination of original and third party content provides a branded context for your work

2. Curating other people's content positions you and/or your organization as a tastemaker in your field

3. Creating sufficient content is a marketing and business challenge

12 Attributes of a successful content curation strategy:

Here are a few things that caught my attention:

 *Has defined measurable goals

As part of your content marketing strategy and by extension

your marketing plan, content curation needs objectives that

are associated with your business.

**Targets a specific audience

. *Content curation like other forms of content marketing requires

understanding your readers' marketing persona

** Involves a community

*As with any social media or content marketing, your

audience should be at the heart of your content efforts.

**Clay Shirky says it best:

"Curation comes up when people

realize that it isn't just about information seeking, it's also

about synchronizing a community"

21 Tips For Marketers About Facebook Timeline For Fan Pages | Mari Smith | Создание подборок. Фильтрация контента в интернете | Scoop.it

One of the biggest feature changes that many businesses are upset about is the removal of a default landing tab.

The good news is you can still have custom tabs, plus the like-gating element still functions. You just can’t set a default landing tab. However, each of your apps still has its own unique URL.

That means you can drive traffic to any “landing” page you wish – from within Facebook via ads, your profile and other places as appropriate; and from outside Facebook on your website/blog, other social profiles, tweets, email campaigns, email signature files, and so forth.

With the new Timeline design, you’ll notice the generously large cover image at the top of your page.

Here’s a list of 21 key points (each tip is analyzed in the full article) about the new Timeline design:

How To Create Value, Give Visibility To Others and Make Money By Curating Presentations: The Note&Point Example | Создание подборок. Фильтрация контента в интернете | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Note and Point is an elegantly curated set of high-quality visual presentations selected and described/commented.

The collection is organized in four sections: Keynote, PowerPoint, PDF and SlideRocket.

This is a great example of how effective curation can create value, while providing greater visibility to the authors showcased and integrating an elegant and perfectly fitting advertising model (AdFusion) which is both inobtrusive and highly contextual. (I found the ads on Note&Point so interesting that I reloaded their home page multiple times to see them all, and clic the ones I was most interested in.)

Great example. Recommended. 9/10

Re-envisioning Modern Pedagogy: Educators as Curators

Corinne Weisgerber (an Associate Prof. of Communication at St. Edward's University that we were lucky to interview recently) gave this presentation at SXSWedu on March 6, 2012. It's of course targetting educators - natural-born curators. But a lot of what's in that presentation is generic enough so it's interesting to read.

Corinne comes back on 8 steps that she defined as essential for curators and describes how they intereact together to form a complete cycle.

It's also interesting to note how good a fit there is betwwen curation and education; something we've felt for quite some time at Scoop.it by seeing a lot of educators using the platform.
