Social Media Ecosystems Rapidly Changing - What You Need to Know | Curating Mode ! | Scoop.it

Jeff Bullas has posted infographs that have the latest facts, figures and statistics to help keep you on top of the rapidly changing social media ecosystems.

Exerpt:

Through the rapid rise of smart phones and mobile platforms globally such as tablets led by the surging iPad, the way we use and view media is changing business and marketing.

Maintaining your business marketing momentum on a social web requires constant updates to identify and understand how and why users are using social networks.

These infographs have the latest facts, figures and statistics to help keep you on top of the rapidly changing social media ecosystems.

Robin, this sounded like an awesome idea, but when I played with it and tried to only capture a few photos that I wanted into a collection, it created the collection with all the photos in the hashtag .. seems like some glitches
Picsho's comment, December 23, 2012 11:50 PM
Hi, Beth. Sorry for the (extremely) delayed response! It definitely sounds like what you experienced was a glitch and/or a flaw in the UX, as Picsho was very early in the beta stage when this was originally shared by Robin Good. We're sure this has been fixed, and we've added lots more features since then. We would be glad if you'd check out the web app again and give us more feedback. Thanks!

Insights Into the Hot Trend of Social Media Content Curation

Insights Into the Hot Trend of Social Media Content Curation | Curating Mode ! | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article:

"Online content curation is a hot trend as business owners and professionals realize that content is vital to add value to their customers and prospects.

The trend was already evident in 2011 but 2012 saw an outright explosion of the phenomenon.

Content curation is the art of selecting content that is appropriate and then organising and publishing it in a way that is relevant for the topic of choice.

Editors with the aid of journalists create and collect content then edit and then publish.
Journalism is shifting more and more from the quest for the perfect “scoop” to a more organized and reasoned activity of content curation.

The technology of the web and the rise of the social media networks is providing sources of content that can provide curation in ways that were not previously possible.
The content curation platform Scoop.it is an example how we can all become magazine editors and content curators without the overhead of hiring editors or journalists. Scoop.it was established in 2011 with the goal of making content curation easy and accessible to everyone...."

Stevie brings MTV-style social video curation to the iPad | GigaOM

Stevie brings MTV-style social video curation to the iPad | GigaOM | Curating Mode ! | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article:

"Plenty of people are trying really hard to make online video more like TV. Israel-based web video curation startup Stevie is a little more specific about its goal: It wants online video to look like a hit show on MTV, back when MTV was still groundbreaking.

The app, which just became available in the App Store this weekend, features more or less the same UI and functionality as Stevie’s web application: a continuous stream of short online videos consisting of things your contacts share on Facebook and Twitter as well as popular clips shared by a number of celebrities, divided into small programming units.

There’s a “show” for personalized content, one for funny stuff, one for music videos and one for celebrity clips. And in case you get bored, Stevie also displays Facebook birthdays, the latest tweets and status updates of your contacts, and a whole bunch of other information in a sidebar and two scrolling tickers..."

New Suite Of Tools For Reviewing Articles On Wikipedia: Page Curation

New Suite Of Tools For Reviewing Articles On Wikipedia: Page Curation | Curating Mode ! | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article:

"Every day, thousands of new pages are created on Wikipedia, requiring hundreds of volunteer editors to check them for quality — a process called “New Page Patrol.” To help these patrollers do their important work, we are pleased to announce the launch of Page Curation, a new suite of tools for reviewing articles on Wikipedia.

Page Curation aims to improve that page patrol experience by making it faster and easier to review new pages, using two integrated tools:

1) New Pages Feed lets you quickly see what new pages have just been created on Wikipedia. Helpful information is provided for each new page, including possible issues and whether or not the page has been reviewed. The feed can be sorted by date, or filtered by a variety of criteria, so you can easily find articles to review by type, or even by user name.

2) Curation Toolbar appears at the right edge of any article selected by patrollers in the New Pages Feed. It allows them to review articles, tag them, and nominate them for deletion — all in one place and with a simple user interface. This toolbar, which is only available to auto-confirmed editors, also includes other useful curation tools.

A number of patrollers have already started using Page Curation, and we hope that more curators will adopt this new toolkit over time..."

70+ Resources on How to Start a WordPress Blog

70+ Resources on How to Start a WordPress Blog | Curating Mode ! | Scoop.it
One question I get asked often is how to start a blog. While there are many platforms to choose from, I always suggest that if your purpose for blogging is anything related to branding, business, or making money online, then you want to go with WordPress on your own domain. While WordPress.com, Blogger, Tumblr, and other platforms are great, there is nothing like having full control of the design and functionality – something you will only get if you are running WordPress from your own domain.

Your first step to staring a blog on your own domain is choosing a domain name. There are many ways you can go with this, from using your own name, business name, keywords, or a quirky but brandable word. Considering a keyword based domain, but not sure where to start? Try out Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool. It will give you additional keyword ideas plus their estimated monthly searches.

Before you register that domain, be sure that it is available on social media! Knowem lets you search names / keywords to see if they are taken on over 500 social networks.

Once you have settled on a strong domain name, you are probably ready to go out and buy it. There is a wide choice for domain registration. Once you’ve purchased your domain, the next thing you will need is hosting.

Then you might want to consider importing it into your new WordPress site. WordPress.org has a Importing Content guide that includes information on how to import content from almost 50 different sources.

Next on your list of priorities, once WordPress is installed, is the design. There are many, many free WordPress themes to choose from and over the course of three years, I have tried a lot of them. In the end, I have ended up only using premium themes.

Ads will be a footnote in social's full story

Ads will be a footnote in social's full story | Curating Mode ! | Scoop.it

Ron Miller writes

'As social media websites gather ever-growing data stores, they might be better served by finding ways to make profitable use of that data instead serving ads as their chief means of raising revenue. While the data might give them the information they need to serve more targeted ads — although in my experience they still have a ways to go with that — the real value in the site could be the data itself.

Of course, if social sites start selling data to the highest bidder that leaves open questions of data ownership and privacy and finding ways to strip personal identifiers.'

[AS: The collapse of advertising and the collation of data on user preference is only half the story; what about the context within which this data is put to use?

I suspect you only need to refer to your own facebook feed in order to review your friends' vitriolic denouncing of facebook's recent advertising experiments to see that the words 'frying pan' and 'fire' are in conjunction here.

We can move the chairs as much as we want.
