Content Marketing Rules: What to Ditch and What to Keep | JeffBullas

Content Marketing Rules: What to Ditch and What to Keep | JeffBullas | Curating Information | Scoop.it

With the frenzy over content marketing as a potent tool to maximize brand’s presence over the web, the digital marketeers of the web have curated some “unwritten content marketing rules” that are being increasingly referred  to by those who are novices.

So, what really are these rules? Do you need to follow them to their last thread? Or maybe you need to listen to your own requirements and make your own rules.

Well, it’s a bit of both.Instead of building from the ground up, it would be easier for you to go with the tried and true ways, but at the same time, using approaches that are relevant to your brand is what will serve you in the long run. Here are some rules to “ditch” and some to “keep”....

Are You a News Aggregator or a Content Curator? | Curating Information | Scoop.it

The one thing common to every human on the earth is this - TIME.  No matter how rich, powerful, beautiful, or intelligent every single human has the same 24 hours in a day- no more, no less.

Content curation can be a blessing to time-challenged people, who have many eyes sifting for content relevant to their own as well as their fellow professionals - so curation can benefit many by, in effect, giving us all "more time" to see those salient and important topics that help us grow.

You can be a part of this process, as well, through content curation.

See how it works!

Curation: Creatively Filtering Content | Sue Waters | The Edublogger

Curation: Creatively Filtering Content | Sue Waters | The Edublogger | Curating Information | Scoop.it

We are living in an era of information overload.  So much content is shared online that curation is needed as a way to get value out of the information flood.

Content curation is the process of shifting through the vast abundance of content on the Internet to select the best, most relevant resource, on a specific topic or theme,  so that we can organize, manage and collate the content for ourselves and share with others.

Content curation is about working smarter and not harder.  Content curation is also a reflective process; as you curate resources you reflect on their value.  Reflection makes new information stick in your brain.

Curation is a life skill and an important part of being digitally literate.  Educators need to know how to curate information so they can teach students how they can curate content for research, their interests and passion. As part of this process educators need to encourage students to curate information using techniques that address their own personal learning needs.

While at the Edutech National Congress & Expo I curated the best resources shared from the Edutech conference into a Flipboard magazine.  An important lesson I learnt from curating the Flipboard magazine is curation is a very personal process.  As individual we have our own different learning styles and techniques; and this can be reflected strongly in how we curate and share content.

I love the comment on the hydrant slide reading " getting information from the internet is like drinking from a fire hydrant".

Searches always bring TOO much information so you feel overwhelmed. Also, we now ALWAYS struggle in determining what is good information, and what is trash. We do indeed feel like we're drowning at times, or just being "hosed" by sites that just waste your time aggregating traffic. I wish there was a browser that would eliminate the needless flow of advertising and extraneous mind numbing trash!

5 Reliable Ways to Use Content as a Referral Tool | Curating Information | Scoop.it
John Jantsch provides us with five ways you can use content to forge strong referral relationships ...

Via Guillaume Decugis

Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, May 14, 2014 12:34 PM

Content can create great relationships: we meet - at least virtually - a lot of people through the content they write, curate or publish. But content can also be the best way to build on existing relationships in valuable ways that are described in this post.

One of the 5 ways John Jantsch describes here is content curation and I wanted to elaborate on this.

A model for involving existing relationships and partners in your content strategy is to offer them to join in your content curation efforts. By curating content as a group of partners, you not only spread the workload but also bring additional visibility and networks to your content, therefore  amplifying your impact. This model for collaborative content curation has already been used by some on Scoop.it leveraging the suggestions of the free version or the team feature of the Business and Enterprise versions which offer group content curation.

Of course the first application of this is within companies where many companies curate as a team. But moving forward, collaborative content curation is an important concept that will spread beyond the boundaries of an organization to become even more powerful as a way to involve all kinds of advocates and partners.
