Librarypedia: The Future of Libraries and Wikipedia - The Digital Shift

Librarypedia: The Future of Libraries and Wikipedia - The Digital Shift | Curating Content and Education | Scoop.it
The Wikipedia Library is an open research hub started in 2010 when Credo Reference donated 500 free research accounts to Wikipedia's most active editors. Partnerships with HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, and the Cochrane Library followed. Now, the Wikipedia Library is developing into a portal to connect editors with libraries, open access resources, paywalled databases, digital reference tools, and research experts. Two of the project's leaders discuss the potential for collaboration between libraries and Wikipedia, as well as the new Visiting Scholars pilot program.

Lisa Trundley-Banks's insight:

Interesting! I still steer my students away from Wikipedia in favour of Epic. I still believe that Wikikpedia used on its own is narrowing students ideas/thought process. Eventually will we only have google and Wiki?

Story Creator – Create Your Own Narrated Picture Books on Your iPad | Curating Content and Education | Scoop.it

To create a narrated picture book on Story Creator start by inserting a picture as your book’s cover. To create a page just tap the “+” icon and import a picture, draw a picture, type some text, or do all three. After completing one or all three of those previous actions tap the microphone icon to record your narration. After making your recording you can quickly adjust it so that each word of text is highlighted to match the timing of your narration.

At a Tipping Point: Education, Learning and Libraries

At a Tipping Point: Education, Learning and Libraries | Curating Content and Education | Scoop.it

Th A new future is coming to education. Online shopping, searching and social networks came first—education is next. OCLC's newest user perceptions study, At a Tipping Point: Education, Learning and Libraries, explores how empowered consumers, fueled by economic incentives, are using online learning platforms and MOOCs to set new expectations for education—and for libraries. The report explores the behaviors, perceptions and motivations of online learners: how they are evaluating the cost/value trade-offs of higher education, how they are using and succeeding with online education—and their use and perceptions of the library.

Mahara is an open source ePortfolio and social networking web application.
It provides users with tools to create and maintain a digital portfolio of their learning and social networking features to allow users to interact with each other.
Lisa Trundley-Banks's insight:

Mahara is an amazing educational resource. It allows students to creatively present and collate information on any topic in a way that is original and easy to manage. Importantly, it gives them ownership of their work and allows them dip in and out anytime they want. My year 9 class spent the entire year working on the theme of survival and added to their page whenever they found something that was relevant. The whole learning experience for them = ownership.
