Painting hyper-realistic works of art with oil paints requires great talent and skill, but drawing them with pastel sticks and crayons seems almost impossible. It appears the word “impossible” is not in Ruben Belloso Adorna’s dictionary, as the young Spanish artist manages to create stunning photo-quality masterpieces using only pastels.

If you like reading about visual art but don’t like spending the considerable sums required to build your own library of vintage exhibition catalogues, feel free to borrow from another collector. Or rather, feel free to borrow from two collectors, both based in New York, both of some repute: The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Early last year, we announced that the Guggenheim had made 65 art catalogues [now increased to 99] available for free online, offering “an intellectual and visual introduction to the work of Alexander Calder, Edvard Munch, Francis Bacon, Gustav Klimt & Egon Schiele, andWassily Kandinsky” as well as “ other texts (e.g., Masterpieces of Modern Art and Abstract Expressionists Imagists) that tackle meta movements and themes.” (That same post includes instructions on how to use the Guggenheim’s archive.)

Worth a visit - click the headline.

Having worked with a number of mediums in several professions over the decades—from paper and metal to leather—Oscarson has embarked on a new venture that seeks to resurge specific subsets of the cyperpunk genre. His collection of cardboard art incorporates the basic thematic elements, including a mechanical presence of technology fused with a vintage aesthetic. The artist even adds a metallic appearance to his cleverly crafted sculptures, heightening their visual effect.

Asil's curator insight, August 3, 2013 5:46 PM

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, July 22, 2013 5:58 AM

The carved wooden structure is completed with a human presence at the center of the wild frenzy with an outstretched arm holding the world in the palm of his hand. Like many of his other meticulously crafted pieces, A Matter of Time draws a connection between man and nature. The artist says, "A passion for nature has inspired me to create a body of work that is environmental in pith. I endeavor to capture a moment in wood or bronze that expresses potential for a symbiotic relationship with nature."
