Its amazing what you can do with a single piece of paper and an imagination. Its incredible what people are capable of doing with their hands and their mind. I love looking at things like this because it interests me and leaves me in awe. It would be so cool to be able to do this..

The Mystery Behind Marc Giai-Miniet’s Cinematic Dioramas

The Mystery Behind Marc Giai-Miniet’s Cinematic Dioramas | Culture and Fun - Art | Scoop.it

French artist Marc Giai-Miniet has been creating for over 50 years, and over that time has accumulated a variety of titles from hobbyist, painter, printmaker, draftsman, and a “pipe puller” of symbols. His never-ending large scale dioramas which he calls “boxes” are almost Escher like. They take us through theatrical stages of industrial rooms; dusty libraries, attics, and winding, nonsensical machinery. These creepy post-disastrous events or crime scenes are beautiful in their destruction, similar to Lori Nix (covered here

On View: Rafael Gomezbarros's "Casa Tomada" Installation at Saatchi Gallery | Culture and Fun - Art | Scoop.it

Undocumented immigrants often describe feeling invisible in their new countries, as the significant parts of their day-to-day existence must be kept below the radar of those who can threaten their livelihoods. Colombian artist Rafael Gomezbarros touches upon this theme in his installation series “Casa Tomada,” in which giant sculptures of ants take over large, public spaces, confronting viewers with what they often overlook. “Casa Tomada” has previously appeared on the Colombian capitol building in Bogota and several art fairs in South America and the Caribbean. Its latest iteration is at Saatchi Gallery in London for their current exhibition, “Pangea: New Art from Africa and Latin America.”

The Kelpies

The Kelpies | Culture and Fun - Art | Scoop.it
The Kelpies are 30-metre high horse-head sculptures, standing next to a new extension to the Forth and Clyde Canal in The Helix, a new parkland project built to connect 16 communities in the Falkirk Council Area, Scotland.[1] The sculptures were designed by sculptor Andy Scott and were completed in October 2013.[2] The sculptures form a gateway at the eastern entrance to the Forth and Clyde canal, and the new canal extension built as part of The Helix land transformation project. The Kelpies are a monument to horse powered heritage across Scotland.[3] The sculptures opened to the public in April 2014.[4] As part of the project, they will have their own visitor centre, and sit beside a newly developed canal turning pool and extension. This canal extension reconnects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the River Forth, and improves navigation between the East and West of Scotland.
