Gays hail Nepal move to liberalise ID cards

KATHMANDU (REUTERS) - Hindu-majority Nepal said on Friday that it will start issuing identification cards with three categories for genders - a move hailed by gay activists, who said previous regulations had been discriminatory.

 

Whether biological or cultural, some people do not identify as strictly male or female.  Consequently many of these transgendered individuals many feel marginalized or discriminated against.  Nepal is making steps to make their country more culturally accepting for these people.

The tolerance/acceptance of homosexuality and sexual norms in general vary highly from place to place.

Gay rights laws in America have evolved to allow — but in some cases ban — rights for gay, lesbian and transgender people on a range of issues, including marriage, hospital visitation, adoption, housing, employment and school bullying.
