Syria: Assyrian Christians told 'If you want to come back, convert to Islam, or you will be killed'

According to the Assyrian International News Agency, Assyrian Christians who have fled from an area of Syria called al-Thawrah (also known as al-Tabqah), have been told by rebels, "If you want to come back, convert to Islam, or you will be killed."...
Reggie Wood's insight:

"Christians report their property being stolen, their homes being confiscated, and their possessions being sold on the black market in order to buy weapons and ammunition. In many of these cases, those forcefully dispossessed were not even allowed thechance to take with them any of their personal belongings. According to the jihadist Islamist ideology espoused by such forces as the al-Nusra Front, the properties and possessions of such "infidels" are halal (fair game), and it is not a sin to plunder them."

Beyond Gay Marriage

Beyond Gay Marriage | The Culture | Scoop.it
AFTER GAY MARRIAGE, what will become of marriage itself? Will same-sex matrimony extend marriage's stabilizing effects to homosexuals? Will gay marriage undermine family life? A lot is riding on the answers to these questions.
Reggie Wood's insight:

"Being queer is more than setting up house, sleeping with a person of the same gender, and seeking state approval for doing so. … Being queer means pushing the parameters of sex, sexuality, and family; and in the process, transforming the very fabric of society. … We must keep our eyes on the goals of providing true alternatives to marriage and of radically reordering society's view of reality."

I personally feel if people were more for gay marriage then more people will be comfortable to be themselves and love the gender they want to. Gays wouldn't have to be scared to get married or hide their love from one another.

"Hatred Toward Minor-Attracted Persons" (pedophiles)

"Hatred Toward Minor-Attracted Persons" (pedophiles) | The Culture | Scoop.it
Recently on the internet I came across the term "minor-attracted persons," which essentially is a politically correct way to say "pedophile" (though technically "pedophile" is a more specific term).
Reggie Wood's insight:

“What seems really strange is, in a society that (especially on the internet) is so accepting of homosexuals, how universal this hatred toward pedophiles is. Aside from the sites of the pedophile groups themselves, I can’t find anyone in support of the basic right of these people not to be socially stigmatized. Everyone seems to equate minor-attracted people with child molesters, which is illogical to an insane degree; certain people who are attracted to adults commit rape, but this doesn’t condemn their entire orientation to ostracism. Let me be clear: from an evolutionary perspective, pedophilia (just like homosexuality) is an incorrect desire because it does not lead to reproduction. However, this doesn’t make it morally wrong and certainly doesn’t warrant all the primal loathing nearly everyone seems to have of pedophiles. Though sexual attraction to minors doesn’t fulfill the meaning of life and thus could be regarded as “worse” than attraction to adults, the pedophiles themselves haven’t done anything collectively wrong; they were born with a different sexual orientation.”

Charles Moore reviews When the Money Runs Out by Stephen D King (Yale)
Reggie Wood's insight:

For 50 years now, European culture has developed the idea that the problem is too many people. Without quite realising, it has developed attitudes that work against the future of the human race. In cultural terms, the celebration of contraception, homosexuality and euthanasia all represent this trend. In economics, the idea of spending rather than saving does the same. So do the Greens, who see the productions of mankind as the enemy of the earth, and attack economic growth without seeming to realise that they are thus advocating impoverishment.
