World Concern - Volunteer Opportunities

"Office Administration - Help various staff members with their workloads, doing things like data entry, video transcribing, research, peer editing, photo-categorizing, and more."

There are three types of volunteer opportunities with World Concern. After reading about them I felt that Office Administration is the area I would be able to work best in, so this information is helpful because it explains what type of work I would be doing if I volunteer.

Careers in Cryptanalysis and Signals Analysis at National Security Agency (NSA)

Careers in Cryptanalysis and Signals Analysis at National Security Agency (NSA) | Culminating Exhibition | Scoop.it

"Cryptanalysis is the analytic investigation of an information system with the goal of illuminating hidden aspects of that system. It encompasses any systematic analysis aimed at discovering features in, understanding aspects of, or recovering hidden parameters from an information system.

Cryptanalysis is one of the core technical disciplines necessary for the NSA to accomplish its mission and provide critical intelligence to the Nation's leaders, and the need for Cryptanalysts will remain constant in our ever-changing global environment."

Kelli Geiszler's insight:

Cryptanalysis seems like a facinating area to work in to me. This material is also important because seems to be pretty specific to the NSA, so if I chose this as my career path I would probably work here.

"Those who declare a global studies major or minor should do so after careful self-examination. During GLBL 301 and GLBL 305, global studies faculty carefully observe whether students can handle the intercultural and intellectual demands of cross-cultural learning. Are they able to empathetically involve themselves in the lives of those different from themselves? Do they stay organized and produce solid work by posted deadlines? Additionally, both L.A. Term and GLT rely on the time and hospitality of others (city leaders, host families, service agencies). This places certain moral and ethical expectations on students—that they be mature and morally self-regulated to naturally comply with the expectations outlines in the APU Student Standards of Conduct."

Kelli Geiszler's insight:

This is from the global studies FAQ page and explains how you're not necessarily guarunteed a spot in the program.  I feel like this is an important thing to understand going into it, and it is comforting to me to know that if I do make it it means that there are people with a lot of experience in the field who think I can do well.
