Matthew Connealy's curator insight, March 22, 2015 8:46 PM

China and India are in ongoing conflict over who controls what in the process of building numerous dams in order to produce power and electricity. Before this, the Himalayan rivers have been untouched;now, the Himalayas could end up being the most damned region in the world. China has started this weaponless war over water by harnessing the power of the Tibetan Plateau and other nations through multiple dam projects, thus, hurting India and their economy. Unfortunately, most of India's water comes from China, and their reliance on this necessity is hindering their movement for power over hydroelectricity. On top of this, these dams are displacing millions of people and cutting off running water from the rivers.

This political ecology is very interesting between these two nations. China is by far the more powerful nation, and it'll be interesting to see what they do about these dams in the next 20 years and how if affects not just the environment but the political systems of the two respective nations. Although we did not talk about subjects similar to these, this story fits right in with political ecology and environmental justice between the neighboring countries.
