Edgar Mata's curator insight, August 30, 2015 11:28 PM

Engage your audience.
An online presentation should never be a static activity. On the contrary; the more your audience participates, the more effective it is. Integrate as much interactivity as possible into your online presentation by including scenarios, eLearning games, and drag and drop interactions, always making sure that your navigation system is easy enough to use.

5 Ways to Increase Retention In E-Learning Courses

5 Ways to Increase Retention In E-Learning Courses | CSPPedagogy | Scoop.it

"Retention of knowledge is as crucial as transfer of it – something that instructional designers often forget easily. The thing is – IDs may be too burdened with the task of organizing content that they often forget how to write it in a way that is learner-friendly. E-learning actually wins over traditional classroom training in several ways when it comes to making learning stick because of its versatile capabilities. Audios, videos, graphics and multimedia add a whole new dimension to the learning experience."

The Power of the Visual for learning

The Power of the Visual for learning | CSPPedagogy | Scoop.it

"Visuals are so powerful. Carl Hendrick wrote recently about motivational posters recently here and I tend to agree when they’re used out of context, however I think visualisations can be a great learning tool, particularly when students make them themselves."

Becky Roehrs's curator insight, October 23, 2014 4:10 PM

Ouch! I don't agree with all five. though:

1) It may seem Patronizing to describe how your course works, but not if you explain to your students that some of their co-learners are new to e-learning.

2) Poor Design: Ok, some courses are packed with too many animations, clip art and embedded videos

3) Poor Performance: Broken links are a pet peeve of mine, but big graphics and lots of them, may be hard on those with spotty internet connections

4) Locked Navigation: This drives me crazy, so I don't do this to my students.

5) Zero substance:Since I usually teach tech stuff, I haven't padded it with buzz words, I usually pare down the content as well.

Overcoming the Motivation Challenge in eLearning: 5 Things You Can Do

Overcoming the Motivation Challenge in eLearning: 5 Things You Can Do | CSPPedagogy | Scoop.it

"Motivation in eLearning can best be described with a U-shaped curve: novelty and enthusiasm produce high drive at the beginning, but it drops off sharply thereafter, only increasing when the end of the course is in sight. It is up to you to boost and maintain your students' motivation throughout the course, so that they will get the most out of it. Unless they have the motivation to focus and sit through the entire course, they learn nothing at all."
