And down the rabbit hole I go..

Carly Pechal's curator insight, September 25, 2015 10:45 AM

What are the current trends in Emerging Technology and why  are popular today in the educational world? Well, from 3D printing to Augmented Reality, there seems to be a lot of different forms of technology taking place to enhance learning experiences, versus just learning. Think of reading a traditional book to your 2nd graders, instead, you bring an iPad into the mix, and you bring a book to life using augmented reality. There are reasons for each of the trends and why and how they are becoming so popular in the educational setting for learning experiences.

This article gives great ideas on how to incorporate video chat into the classroom. My favorite is having more guest speakers. My students love when they can learn something from someone other than their teacher. It would make accessing speakers from all over the globe possible.

Now, with technology becoming more and more relevant, it isn't surprising that Video chats can be used in the classroom. At first I did not know how until I read this article. "If you had not been living under the rock (read: away from the Internet), you know infographics are everywhere. They are on websites. They show up on whitepapers. They are in the ads. They are splashed all over newspapers. But of course, there are plenty of good reasons why content creators use infographics. These stunners are also excellent learning tools. Most human beings are visual learners. As eLearning designers, you too should tap into the immense instructional potential of infographics."

3 ways teachers can make learning more interactive

3 ways teachers can make learning more interactive | CSPEducational Technology | Scoop.it

"From gamification to crowdsourcing, improve learning with these interactive elements

Today’s students are a uniquely interactive group. Most of the 80 million Americans who are part of the millennial generation—a group that comprises the lion’s share of today’s student population—can’t remember a time when they didn’t have instant access to the internet.  Most of them grew up playing video games, and ever since they can remember, they’ve been in constant contact with friends via social media platforms and text messages. A growing number of today’s instructors also fall into this group."

Helping Learners Get The Most Out Of Online Discussions

Helping Learners Get The Most Out Of Online Discussions | CSPEducational Technology | Scoop.it

"Online discussions are the lifeblood of an online class. Without rich, ongoing discussions, learning is minimized. However, many online courses don’t help online learners understand how to post a new idea or response; the types of communications or posts that contribute to learning or share examples of good posts. As a result, online learners are often left to their own devices with many online discussions stalling or sinking to a level of mediocrity."

6 Ways to Engage Every Learner Using UDL

6 Ways to Engage Every Learner Using UDL | CSPEducational Technology | Scoop.it

"In any given classroom, there are invariably learners who simply don’t connect with what’s being taught. Lectures can be easy to tune out. A textbook can feel dense and boring to finish. Even a video can pose limitations for learners with sight or hearing difficulties. When these are the only options available, some learners are bound to fall behind without requesting special support, while others will surge ahead. Differentiation is one way to bridge this gap, and another is adapting the curriculum to suit all learners, instead of adjusting it to support the needs of each one."
