Everything we do and say is story. All standard story structures ask the question 'who am I?' and try to make the answer interesting - or we stop caring. The rules here contain some great visuals and a lot of thought-provoking ideas. Go be provoked.

Forget writing out your biz stories! The art of storytelling | Innovative Marketing and Crowdfunding | Scoop.it
When leaders first learn about business storytelling quite often their first instinct is to write their stories down, in full with all the flourish they hope to convey in the retelling.
This is a mistake.

This is key. The hard part is learning how an entrepreneur becomes a great story teller.

What a great post from colleague Shawn Callahan about most people's tendency to want to write out their business stories and the advice to NOT do so.

What??!! Yes. Resist this temptation. Callahan explains why and what to do instead. Follow his advice. And if you absolutely must write down your stories -- do so and them set it aside. Scripted stories and sounding like a robot are not allowed!

All really good storytellers know the limitations of writing down their stories. So keep building your improv storytelling skills for maximum results.

Most people think the more people like them who are around them, the better. The absolute best teams I've built are those with the widest diversity. Yes, it takes a little longer, and there are challenges with such diversity of thought, but the wide variety of backgrounds and experiences is second to none if you want high performing teams.

Those people in the past were wiser than we are? The same was true about some of the homes that were built on high ground in the mountains of Uttarakhand in India. These older houses survived the deluge, while newer constructions built close to the flood plains were swept away in the deluge that took place in the month of June..

Great infographic, love the color use. Also an interesting look at the consulting business. I've worked for two companies that have hired an outside consultant. One had lackluster results, the other was fantastic - great ideas, data rich insights, strong focus on not only results but most effective way to get them. Would love to (one day) try getting deeper into that side of the business.

Inventing the future of publishing through human curated big data

Semantic technology has been around for years and was supposed to save us from information overload. So far, it failed. The Semantic Web or Web 3.0 is still Tim Berners-Lee's dream, and good old Web 2.0 keeps drowning us in oceans of content. But while social media is certainly the cause of this deluge of information, it can also be the solution: first, as it provides us with a huge amount of data that we can use to qualify this information through big data technology; second, because it educated and created a need for millions to become human curators. By combining algorithms and humans, we reinvent media while bringing the meaning back to the Web.

8 tips for successfully pitching an investor

8 tips for successfully pitching an investor | Innovative Marketing and Crowdfunding | Scoop.it
We asked 8 entrepreneurs to share their tips for pitching an investor. #1: Share your vision, not a product...
Marty Koenig's insight:

Great list! The first one is so true. I see a dozen investor pitches a week, and almost all of them are product pitches. What young entrepreneurs need to know is "it's not about the product".

Yes, you are enamored and passionate about your product, as you should be. Investors don't care. What they do care about is that you are solving a big problem for lots or people, and that you and your team are the right ones to accelerate and execute on your plans. Oh, and if you want to see what actual successful investor pitches look like, see here: http://bit.ly/FiverrInvestorPitchDeck

Pinterest Announces Rich Pins for Articles

Pinterest Announces Rich Pins for Articles | Innovative Marketing and Crowdfunding | Scoop.it

So now, if you're a brand that wants to take advantage of Pinterest but finds original visual content too high a resource investment for you to make, you don't have to be left out of the Pinterest game. You can pin, say ... those awesome blog articles you're always writing!

The article pins will now include critical information in a more prominent fashion that helps your written content get traction, including

- Story Headline

- Author Name

- Description of the Story (like your meta description)

- Source URL

Now you might be saying to yourself, "Self, I used to pin my articles on Pinterest, anyway." Well, good for you for being scrappy -- but now those pins will look waaaay better. The biggest difference? The images will be bigger, and critical information like your meta data is displayed more prominently....
