SEO for Startups: Interview with John Doherty, Distilled NY Head - Ebyline's Content Hub

SEO for Startups: Interview with John Doherty, Distilled NY Head - Ebyline's Content Hub | Innovative Marketing and Crowdfunding | Scoop.it
Today, Ebyline proudly presents an exclusive interview with John F. Doherty, head of Distilled New York, founder of HireGun, international speaker, blogger, and photographer.
Marty Koenig's insight:

This is great advice, and the same advice I give entrepreneurs every day. The information here is clearly relevant and important for Crowdfunding (like Kickstarter, Indiegogo, RocketHub, etc.). People think Oh, I'll just hire an SEO firm and be done with it.

WRONG.

The benefits and results don't last. I've seen companies paying $1,000 to $10,000 per month, and they don't know what they're getting.

Amazing.

Love his advice about Long-Tail keywords. You should also consider Reverse Keywords. Look it up :-)

I love having conversations with people all over the world about SEO. So many entrepreneurs believe all they have to do is buy a bunch of link-builder services and BOOM!, lots of customers.

WRONG.

It doesn't work that way. Buila your tribe of loyal, raving fans, and they will buy from you. They will engage in your conversation. If your messages are clearly just selling, then you must ugrade your messages

Excellent article for anyone who wants to learn more about online marketing.

What is Appreciative Inquiry? | aboutleaders.com

What is Appreciative Inquiry? | aboutleaders.com | Innovative Marketing and Crowdfunding | Scoop.it
What is Appreciative Inquiry anyway? Have you ever heard: People join organizations, but leave managers. What would your employees say about you?
Marty Koenig's insight:

One more reason why more and more people are migrating to entrepreneurial careers. Because they are built on trust, and they don't have to re-built trust after losing it from corporate think. Institutionalized deficit thinking. Instead of systems of potential to be realized.

Entrepreurial companies inherently bring everyone into the conversation of what they envision. Talking about the possibilities.

Corporatized companies don't do that (generally, with few exceptions such as 3M and Zappos), and therefore don't have institutionalized trust.

Building communities inside corporations can happen, but a "asktheCEO" email address doesn't cut it. That doesnt' engage people in building an internal tribe of people that are passionate about building more raving fan customers. Loyalty wanes.

Appreciative Inquiry is a model that can help organizations come together in a spirit of trust AND happiness! It seeks to create a better reality by everyone working together and realizing their full potential. When employees are treated as contributors to a better future, it is easier to establish a culture of trust and happiness at work.

I spent a lot of time documenting a large range of stretch goals for my 1st Kickstarter campaign, I had thought it would demonstrate that we have a strong & focused business plan - not just an early stage vapourware idea.     It didn't work and effectively I wasted a lot of time.    I would have been better off leaving my stretch goals off the initial project pitch & added them overtime if & when the Kickstarter campaign needed them.

Passion is the energy of life!
Doris Palomino's curator insight, August 19, 2013 12:13 PM

I've found this article very interesting because it is not one related to the "to be", like in articles related to emotional intelligence - which I agree is a great topic - but it is focused on the "as is". When leaders show their emotions, you really know where you are and if you can move forward or not.

"Emotional data seems less relevant in the business world where logical data reigns supreme. But it's not only relevant, It's usually the lynchpin to change and growth".

I appreciate the final remarks about how we make difference to "read" the emotions based on the gender. So much to do  and to think about.

Efrain Teran Kaisler's curator insight, August 22, 2013 9:47 PM

We just had a big article in the cincinnati Enquirer on this . My sense is that it will be abused and the small guy is going to take the fall for inveting in scams. Do you see this as an issue ?
Marty Koenig's comment, August 20, 2013 10:47 PM
Every new funding opportunity for entrepreneurs has it's potential downside risks. For crowdfunding platforms, like in the article Anthony mentioned, if they aren't astute enough to have a good lawyer that understands SEC laws and is up on crowdfunding, then they lose. For the backers of crowdfunding campaigns, there is always a risk that nothing will come of it - e.g. Kickstarter does not guarantee that the product producer will ever deliver anything. I see both of those as outliers. The only way people wanting to start a crowdfunding campaign can avoid problems is to not guess at this. Just like those who guess when they think they know how to start and run a business, most don't - unless they've done it and failed multiple times. Those who get advice from experienced consultants will do better on both sides of the table.
