As crowdfunding continues to affect the lives of millions of people around the world, Indiegogo has been listening carefully to our global community of campaigners and contributors. With that, we’re very excited to announce some new enhancements to our global platform — currencies, languages and localized experiences — that will help our community in the UK, Europe, and Canada get more out of their crowdfunding experiences.

Indiegogo will now support transactions through PayPal in Euros, Pounds Sterling, and Canadian Dollars — in addition to the US Dollar. Our hope is to give campaigners and contributors more bang for their buck/Euro/Pound/Dollar.

Danae Ringelmann, co-founder of Indiegogo, said she is "excited" about equity crowdfunding, but her organization may not pursue the option if rules handed down by U.S. and Canadian authorities are too rigid to allow her platform to adapt its implementation or that could "stifle innovation."

Campaigner Insights: Grassroots Crowdfunding Promotion

Campaigner Insights: Grassroots Crowdfunding Promotion | Crowdfunding World | Scoop.it
However lo-fi and “old skool,” this kind of promotion is, it is fairly unique in the online land of crowdfunding — but no less valuable. Given that Indiegogo is an Internet-based crowdfunding platform, it’s common (and logical) for the primary effort of campaign marketing activities to often occur online. While various forms of social media and email are excellent ways to connect with interested audiences inside and beyond your network, sometimes hitting the pavement and engaging in more grassroots marketing activities can be another great way to spread the word about a campaign.

Why Kickstart when you can Indiegogo? [interview]

Why Kickstart when you can Indiegogo? [interview] | Crowdfunding World | Scoop.it

When it comes to raising money to produce a video game, few words have garnered as much attention in the last few years as “crowdfunding.” But while Kickstarter might be the biggest dog on the block, it wasn’t the first crowdfunding site on the web, and it may not even be the best.

As Kickstarter gets more and more crowded, developers are quickly looking for alternatives to raise the funds they need – and Indiegogo seems to be cementing itself as the alternative of choice. We recently talked with Indiegogo’s games guru John Vaskis to find out just why that is.

How to get your crowdfunding campaign to Indiegogo to the top (Wired UK)

How to get your crowdfunding campaign to Indiegogo to the top (Wired UK) | Crowdfunding World | Scoop.it

"In a world where everybody is funding everything, the role of gatekeeper will become obsolete," she told Wired.co.uk at Web Summit 2012. "Who's to say who should be able to raise money and who should not? We don't believe it's anybody's right to make that decision. In that world you want a system where the cream rises to the top based on meritocratic reasons, not someone's biased opinions. We're in the business of truly democratising funding."

Because of this mentality, Indiegogo -- which now has a presence in more than 200 countries -- has given us the delights of the Bug-a-Salt and the Tesla museum, but also raised money to give a Congolese pastor a kidney transplant.

Using the "gogo factor" -- a proprietary algorithm that measures the activity in a campaign and drives the placements of projects on the site according to that data -- a campaign's ongoing success or lack of is immediately clear. Ringelmann calls it the "cream rising to the top", and it's part of the transparency that allows the project to be truly democratic.
